Camping near Parole, Maryland
Parole is an unincorporated community on the western edge of Annapolis in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, anchored by the Westfield Annapolis mall and Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center. Its position along US-50 and MD-2 places RV travelers within a short drive of downtown Annapolis, the Chesapeake Bay, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, making it a practical base for a multi-city trip.
Campgrounds within roughly an hour of Parole span federal, state, and private options. Greenbelt Park Campground, run by the National Park Service, offers wooded sites near the D.C. Metro system. Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area sits along the Patapsco River near Ellicott City, and private parks such as Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC provide full-hookup RV sites with resort amenities.
For Bay-focused trips, Bay Shore Campground places RVs near the Chesapeake shoreline, across the Bay Bridge from Parole.
Things to do around Parole
Downtown Annapolis is minutes away, with the U.S. Naval Academy, the Maryland State House, and City Dock at the center of most itineraries. Sandy Point State Park on the bay offers a swimming beach, boat rentals, and views of the Bay Bridge. Families often add kayaking, crabbing, and sunset cruises on the Severn River.
Washington, D.C. is roughly 30 miles west, putting the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and monuments within a day-trip radius. Guests at Greenbelt Park Campground are about ten miles from the city and can reach the Greenbelt Metro station on the Green Line for a car-free trip in.
For outdoor days, Patapsco Valley State Park has hiking, mountain-bike trails, and river access, and Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary on the Patuxent River is a strong wildlife-viewing stop for kids.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel in the Annapolis area. Daytime highs sit in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit, humidity drops from summer levels, and fall foliage along the Patapsco Valley and Chesapeake shoreline peaks from mid-October into early November. Ticks are active in the region from spring through summer, so campers should plan for repellent and site checks.
Summer is peak season and books out early. Highs regularly reach the upper 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit, humidity is high, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. June is the wettest month on average, and tropical systems can affect the region from August through October.
Winter camping is possible at Greenbelt Park, which stays open year-round, though sites are primitive without water or electric hookups. Many private parks reduce services or close sections in the coldest months, and freeze warnings can affect water lines at bayside sites.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Booking and reservations
Federal sites use Recreation.gov. Greenbelt Park Campground requires reservations year-round through Recreation.gov, with a rolling six-month booking window and no on-site cash payment. The campground has hot showers, restrooms, and a dump station but no hookups, and per-site RV length caps apply.
Maryland state park campgrounds are reserved through parkreservations.maryland.gov with a one-year advance window. Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area has been closed for renovations, so confirm current status before planning around it. Private parks such as Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC, and Bay Shore Campground book directly through their own websites or through KOA.com. For summer weekends and holiday periods, reserve well in advance.
What to expect
Most parks near Parole are wooded or waterfront, with mixed site types. Full-hookup pull-throughs are the norm at Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC. Greenbelt Park Campground is tent- and small-to-mid-size-RV friendly, with a 35-foot cap on many sites and no hookups. Bay Shore Campground provides water and electric with a shared dump station rather than in-site sewer.
Cell service is generally reliable across the region on major carriers. Bugs, ticks, and humidity are the main summer nuisances. Traffic on US-50, I-95, and the Capital Beltway can be heavy on Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings, so build travel time accordingly when moving an RV to or from the campground.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Parole, MD
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Parole, MD?
Renting an RV in Parole is more affordable than most people expect, especially when you compare it to hotel rates in nearby Annapolis. On RVezy, motorhome rentals near Parole average around $200 per night, while travel trailers and towables come in closer to $120 per night. Most hosts offer weekly and monthly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so longer Chesapeake Bay trips actually drop your per-night cost. For a cheap RV rental in Parole, filter by travel trailers, book midweek, and aim for shoulder months like April or October when demand around the Naval Academy drops. Pro tip: bundling delivery with a stay at Sandy Point State Park can save you fuel and stress.
visitannapolis.org/places-to-stay/campgrounds-and-rv-parks/What license do I need to rent an RV in Parole, Maryland?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Parole. Maryland does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or trailers driven by guests, no matter the class. You do need to be at least 25 years old to book on RVezy, and you'll confirm your identity directly through the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home license. Once that's set, you're cleared to cruise from Parole to the Eastern Shore with confidence.
mva.maryland.gov/drivers/Pages/default.aspxIs RV rental insurance and roadside help included for my Parole trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Parole booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan helps cover damages to the RV and gives you peace of mind whether you are crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge or parked at a campground in Anne Arundel County. You choose your preferred level of coverage during checkout (not the host), so you can pick what fits your trip. If you get a flat on US-50 or need a jump at Quiet Waters Park, one call gets help dispatched. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it removes the biggest worry for first-time renters of an RV rental in Parole.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Parole RV rental?
Booking your RV rental in Parole is low-risk because RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host). Guests generally have a short grace period after booking to cancel for a full refund of the rental amount, and the exact terms depend on how far out your trip is. That means you can lock in dates for an Annapolis sailing weekend or a Chesapeake Bay getaway with clear expectations. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds you or helps you rebook. Full details and current timeframes are on the RVezy Help Center, and 24/7 support can walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Parole?
Absolutely, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Parole, and finding one takes about ten seconds. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see motorhomes and trailers ready for your dog (or two). Once you're rolling, the area is packed with pup-approved spots: Quiet Waters Park has a dedicated off-leash dog beach on the South River, Downs Park in Pasadena welcomes leashed dogs on its waterfront trails, and Sandy Point State Park allows leashed pets in most day-use areas. Message the host before booking if you want to confirm any pet fees or breed notes. Then load up the leash, treats, and a towel for sandy paws.
aacounty.org/departments/recreation-parks/parks/quiet-waters/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or address in Parole?
Yes, RV delivery in Parole is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer for first-time renters. Many hosts in the Annapolis area will drive the RV directly to your campsite at Sandy Point State Park, Patapsco Valley State Park, or even your driveway in Parole, level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. That means zero stress about backing into a tight site or hitching a trailer. Delivery fees are set by each host based on distance and RV type, and you can see them right on the listing. Filter by Delivery to see your options instantly.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/southern/sandypoint.aspxHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Parole?
You can go as far as your itinerary allows. Parole's location puts you within easy reach of incredible East Coast destinations. Each host sets their own mileage policy (some offer generous daily allowances and a few list RV rentals with unlimited mileage), and you will see the exact terms on the listing before booking. From Parole, Ocean City, MD is about 110 miles east (roughly 2.5 hours), Assateague Island National Seashore sits at about 125 miles, Shenandoah National Park is around 130 miles west, and Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware is about 100 miles. For a longer RV road trip from Parole, message the host before booking to confirm mileage that fits your route.
nps.gov/asis/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Parole, MD?
You have great choices for RV camping in Parole. Sandy Point State Park (about 9 miles away on the Chesapeake Bay) is the closest waterfront option and a local favorite for sunrise views of the Bay Bridge. Patapsco Valley State Park, Hollofield Area (around 30 miles) offers wooded sites with electric hookups along the Patapsco River. Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville (about 10 miles) has full hookups, a pool, and easy access to both DC and Annapolis. Cherry Hill Park near College Park is another well-rated full-service option. Book early for summer weekends, especially around Naval Academy events and the U.S. Sailboat Show.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/southern/sandypoint.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Parole?
Late April through mid-June and September through October are the sweet spots for an RV rental in Parole, MD. Spring brings highs in the 65 to 78°F range, blooming dogwoods, and the start of the Annapolis sailing season. Fall delivers crisp 60 to 75°F days, fewer crowds, and beautiful foliage along the South River. July and August are warm and humid (often 85 to 92°F), which is great for Chesapeake Bay swimming but warmer for driving. Winter RVing is doable for off-season rates and quiet visits to historic Annapolis, though some campgrounds close November through March. Pro tip: book around the U.S. Sailboat Show in October for unbeatable harbor views.
weather.gov/lwx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
Yes, and you're in great company: most renters in Parole are doing this for the first time. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery if you choose that option), showing you how to use the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump valves. You'll leave knowing how every switch works. Hosts are also reachable by message throughout your trip, and RVezy's 24/7 support team is one tap away. For your first time renting an RV, a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer is the easiest to handle around Annapolis. Consider delivery for your first booking so you can skip the driving and focus on the fun.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road?
You are covered: every RV rental in Parole booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Flat tire on US-50 heading to Ocean City? Battery died at Patapsco Valley State Park? Lockout at a rest stop on I-97? One call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick questions about systems specific to their RV. The RVezy support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Save both numbers in your phone before you pull out of Parole and you will have backup at every turn of your Maryland adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV from Parole into other states or Canada?
Yes, multi-state RV road trips from Parole are one of the best parts of the location. You can cross into Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, or DC, and many guests do a loop through Shenandoah, Assateague, or the Outer Banks. Travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the host and protection coverage, so confirm by messaging the host before you book. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Popular routes from Parole include the Skyline Drive loop and the Delmarva Peninsula beach circuit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat about fuel costs and MPG for an RV trip from Parole?
Budgeting fuel for your Parole RV trip is straightforward once you know the numbers. Class C motorhomes typically average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs 6 to 10 MPG, campervans 15 to 20 MPG, and towable trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Maryland gas prices typically sit close to the national average, and you'll find competitive diesel and gas stations along US-50, MD-2, and I-97 (Royal Farms and Wawa are local favorites). For a 200-mile weekend to Assateague and back in a Class C, plan on roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fuel up in Maryland before crossing into DC, where prices tend to spike.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Parole?
For summer weekends and holidays, book your campground as soon as your RV rental in Parole is confirmed, ideally 3 to 6 months out. Maryland State Parks like Sandy Point and Patapsco Valley use a reservation system at ParkReservations.Maryland.gov, and waterfront sites at Sandy Point release exactly 12 months in advance and fill within hours for Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. National sites like Greenbelt Park use Recreation.gov with a six-month window. Private parks like Capitol KOA can often be snagged a few weeks out for weekdays. Pro tip: if summer waterfront is fully booked, target a Sunday-through-Thursday stay or aim for late September when the bay is still warm.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What's it like driving an RV around Parole and Annapolis?
Driving an RV near Parole is very manageable, even for newer renters, because the main routes are wide and well-maintained. US-50/301 across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is the iconic drive (two-way, four lanes total, with a 5.4-mile span and a height clearance of about 186 feet, so any RV is fine). Keep in mind the Bay Bridge has wind restrictions for high-profile vehicles during severe weather, and summer Friday afternoons get heavy with beach traffic heading east. Avoid narrow streets in historic downtown Annapolis near the City Dock with anything bigger than a Class B campervan. For Class A or larger fifth wheels, choose delivery and let the host handle the tight spots.
mdta.maryland.gov/Toll_Facilities/WPB.htmlWhat hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Parole?
Campgrounds near Parole offer a great mix of full-service and rustic options, so you can match your RV to the experience. Sandy Point State Park provides electric hookups and a dump station but no individual sewer or water at sites (potable water fill is on-site). Patapsco Valley State Park's Hollofield Area has electric sites, hot showers, and a dump station. Washington DC/Capitol KOA and Cherry Hill Park offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp electric), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Most state parks have free dump stations for registered campers. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving your campground because in-town fill stations are limited around the Annapolis area.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/southern/sandypoint.aspxWhat's actually inside the RV I'm renting in Parole?
Expect a fully equipped home on wheels. Most motorhome rentals in Parole come with a queen or larger bed, a kitchen (fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, cookware), a bathroom with shower and toilet, a dinette that converts to extra sleeping, air conditioning, furnace heat, and often a TV. Class C and larger Class A rigs typically include a generator for off-grid power, while campervan rentals in Parole often add solar and pop-tops. Seatbelts are provided for travel positions, so always check the sleeps-versus-seatbelts count on the listing. Many hosts include kitchen kits, bedding, and outdoor chairs. Look for a Wi-Fi hotspot add-on if you need to work from Chesapeake Bay views.
rvezy.com/What add-ons can I get and how does pickup work?
Hosts in Parole offer a range of add-ons to customize your trip: generator hours, kitchen and linen kits, bikes, camp chairs, grills, propane refills, Wi-Fi hotspots, and pet packages. Each fee is listed clearly on the RV's page before checkout. Pickup is typically at the host's location in Parole, Annapolis, or nearby Anne Arundel County, where you will get a full orientation walkthrough (plan 30 to 60 minutes). If you would rather skip driving entirely, choose Delivery and the host brings the motorhome rental in Parole directly to your campsite. Mileage policies vary by listing, so check whether your trip needs the standard daily allowance or an unlimited mileage upgrade.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: everything runs through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to a host. You pay with a credit card at booking, and your reservation is confirmed once the host accepts (or instantly if the RV has Instant Book enabled). A refundable security deposit is held separately from the rental payment before the trip and released after your return, assuming the RV comes back in the condition you got it. The hold amount is shown clearly during checkout, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: take timestamped photos of the RV interior and exterior at pickup and dropoff to keep everything smooth.
