Campgrounds near Riviera Beach
Riviera Beach sits on a peninsula in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, wedged between the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay just south of Baltimore. The location makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want to reach both Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Annapolis without changing campgrounds, and it puts the Chesapeake shoreline within a short drive of the door.
Campground options in the surrounding area range from full-service RV resorts to state park sites. Bay Shore Campground near Rock Hall offers electric and water sites, showers, a dump station, and boat launch access along the Chesapeake Bay. To the west, the Hollofield area of Patapsco Valley State Park sits off Route 40 in Ellicott City and offers tent and RV sites, some with electric hookups, plus picnic areas, trail access to the river, and a scenic overlook of the Patapsco Valley.
For travelers pairing the Chesapeake with a Washington, D.C. trip, Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC serve as year-round base camps within easy reach of the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and the White House. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina in Abingdon offers another year-round waterfront option on the upper Chesapeake.
Things to do near Riviera Beach
The Chesapeake Bay drives most of the recreation in this corner of Maryland. The waterfront setting at Bay Shore Campground delivers Chesapeake Bay views and attracts bald eagles and diverse wildlife, with the Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge just three miles south. Boating, kayaking, and fishing are the core activities, and marinas around Rock Hall, Havre de Grace, and the Bush River give RV travelers easy launch options.
Inland, Patapsco Valley State Park is the closest state land for hiking and river access. The park offers varied recreation including hiking, fishing, canoeing, horseback trails, and mountain bike trails, as well as picnicking in the park's many pavilions.
Urban day trips are the other draw. Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, Camden Yards, and Annapolis are all reachable in under an hour, and Washington, D.C. is about a 40-minute drive from campgrounds on the west side of the bay.

Camping season on the Maryland Chesapeake varies by operator. The Hollofield state park campground operates seasonally from April through October, offering both electric and primitive sites arranged in two concentric loops, though the Hollofield area campground is currently closed for renovations, so confirm status with the Maryland Park Service before planning a stay there. Private parks in the area tend to run longer or year-round, including Bay Shore Campground on the Eastern Shore and Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina on the Bush River.
Summer is the busiest window, with warm bay water, long daylight, and full amenity operations including pools. Late spring and early fall bring milder weather, fewer bugs, and easier reservations. Winter camping is possible at year-round parks, but expect cold nights, closed pools, and limited on-site services.
Hurricane and tropical storm remnants can affect the region from August through October, occasionally causing flooding along low-lying Chesapeake shorelines. Check forecasts closely for late-summer and early-fall trips.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.
Ronald V. - Oct 2026
We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!

How to book a campground near Riviera Beach
Reservation systems vary by operator. Maryland state park sites, including those at Patapsco Valley, are booked through the Maryland Park Service reservation portal at parkreservations.maryland.gov. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 365 days in advance. Popular summer weekends and holiday dates fill early, so booking well ahead is advisable.
Private parks handle reservations directly. Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday takes bookings through the KOA website, Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina books through its own site and phone line, Bay Shore Campground books through its own office, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Washington DC books through the operator's site. For big rigs, confirm site length and hookup type at booking, since site dimensions vary widely between waterfront parks and inland state park loops.
What to expect on-site
Site setups in the region skew toward electric and water hookups at private parks and electric-only or primitive at state parks. The Hollofield area offers 73 campsites, some equipped with electric hookups, and each site includes a picnic table and a fire ring. Height-restricted access is a real planning factor: campers with vehicles over 11 feet 1 inch in height must enter via the Route 40 East Entrance.
Waterfront parks around the Chesapeake often have limited sewer service. At Bay Shore Campground, sites are electric and water only, with 30 and 50 amp service and both back-in and pull-through options, and campers rely on the on-site dump station for longer stays.
Amenities at family-focused private parks typically include a seasonal pool, laundry, camp store, playground, and Wi-Fi. Expect a mix of transient and long-term guests, particularly at parks near the D.C. metro area.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Riviera Beach, MD
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Riviera Beach, MD?
An RV rental in Riviera Beach is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Chesapeake Bay region. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans run roughly $150 to $225, and Class C motorhomes average $175 to $275 nightly, while larger Class A coaches tend to land higher. You will save the most by booking midweek, traveling in the May or September shoulder months, and choosing a host that offers generous mileage. Pro tip: filter for Instant Book to lock in the best rigs before Memorial Day weekend at Sandy Point fills the calendar. A cheap RV rental Riviera Beach travelers love is a small travel trailer delivered straight to your campsite.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Riviera%20Beach%2C%20MarylandDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Riviera Beach, Maryland?
For virtually every RV on RVezy, your regular Class C driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Riviera Beach. The Maryland MVA only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, which is heavier than the typical travel trailer, campervan, or Class C motorhome you will book on the platform. You must be 25 or older, hold a valid driver's license, and verify your ID through RVezy during checkout. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit paired with your home license works. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection and roadside assistance comes with my Riviera Beach RV rental?
You are covered from the moment you drive off. Every RVezy booking automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Mountain Road or a dead battery at the Sandy Point boat ramp is a quick phone call, not a vacation-ender. During checkout, you choose the level of protection that fits your trip, with higher tiers offering lower deductibles and broader damage coverage on the vehicle. Hosts do not pick the coverage tier, you do, so you are in control of how much cushion you want before you click Book.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Riviera Beach RV trip?
Booking is lower risk than you might think. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, not the host, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If life happens, or if a tropical storm rolls up the Chesapeake Bay, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. The cancellation policy is handled at the platform level rather than being listed on individual rigs. Pro tip: book early to secure the best rigs for peak Bay Bridge weekends, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Riviera Beach RV rental?
Absolutely, and your pup will love it. Plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Riviera Beach options exist on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see rigs whose owners welcome dogs. Once you are rolling, Downs Memorial Park on Pinehurst Road in Pasadena has scenic Chesapeake Bay trails with leashed-pet access, and Fort Smallwood Park nearby offers leash-friendly waterfront paths. Sandy Point State Park also permits leashed pets in designated areas outside the swimming beach. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed so check-in is seamless and you can hit the trails the same afternoon.
aacounty.org/recreation-parks/parks-trails-and-facilities/downs-memorial-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Riviera Beach?
Yes, RV delivery Riviera Beach is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a 30-foot rig through Pasadena traffic. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at Sandy Point State Park, Duncan's Family Campground in Lothian, or directly to a driveway in the Riviera Beach neighborhood. They will level it, connect water and electric, and walk you through the systems before they leave. Use the Delivery filter when you search, then message the host with your destination address for an exact quote. It turns your motorhome rental Riviera Beach into a turn-key cottage on wheels.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/southern/SandyPoint.aspxHow far can I drive, and what mileage policies should I expect?
You have plenty of range for a great Riviera Beach RV trip. Hosts set their own mileage policies, and many offer unlimited mileage or generous packages like 100 to 150 free miles per day, with additional miles around $0.30 to $0.50 each. From Riviera Beach you can reach Sandy Point State Park in about 15 minutes, Assateague Island National Seashore in roughly 3 hours, Shenandoah National Park in about 3 hours, and Cape Henlopen, Delaware in about 2.5 hours. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer loop down to Chincoteague or up to Gettysburg, filter for an RV rental with unlimited mileage so you can roam the mid-Atlantic without watching the odometer.
nps.gov/asis/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Riviera Beach to park my RV?
You have excellent options within a short drive. Sandy Point State Park (about 15 minutes south) offers youth-group camping plus day-use beach access with sweeping Chesapeake Bay Bridge views. Duncan's Family Campground in Lothian (about 35 minutes) has full hookups, a pool, and a small fishing pond. Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville sits just a short drive from Riviera Beach with full hookups, propane, and easy I-97 access. Cherry Hill Park in College Park (about 45 minutes) is one of the highest-rated RV resorts on the East Coast. For RV camping Riviera Beach travelers craving the ocean, Assateague State Park has oceanfront sites about 3 hours east. Book Sandy Point and Assateague well in advance.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/southern/SandyPoint.aspxWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Riviera Beach?
Late April through mid-June and September through October are the sweet spots. Spring brings highs in the 60s and 70s with blooming dogwoods around the Magothy River, and fall delivers crisp 50 to 70 degree days with stunning foliage along the Patapsco Valley. July and August are warm and humid (highs in the upper 80s with frequent afternoon thunderstorms off the Chesapeake), but they are prime swimming season at Sandy Point. Winter is mild for the Mid-Atlantic, with daytime highs in the 40s, and several hosts keep their rigs available year-round. Pro tip: book a campervan rental Riviera Beach for an October leaf-peeping run to the Catoctin Mountains, it is the best-kept secret of the season.
weather.gov/lwx/I've never rented an RV before, will I actually be okay?
You are going to do great. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, water pump, propane, generator, awning, and waste system, so nothing is a mystery before you pull out of the driveway. If you are nervous about maneuvering through the tight streets of the Riviera Beach peninsula or over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, choose a smaller travel trailer or Class B campervan, or book delivery so the host handles all the driving and setup. First time renting an RV travelers in the Pasadena area often pair a delivered rig with a stay at Duncan's Family Campground for the easiest possible entry into the lifestyle. Confidence comes fast, usually by night one.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/sections/360008058334-Renting-an-RVWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Help is one phone call away, 24/7. Every booking includes round-the-clock roadside assistance as part of your protection plan, covering things like flat tires, lockouts, battery jumps, fuel delivery, and towing. If you are broken down on Route 100, stuck at a campsite outside Annapolis, or dealing with a generator that will not start at Sandy Point, you simply call the number in your trip details and a local pro is dispatched. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of your VIN and the roadside assistance number on day one so it is always handy on your phone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Riviera Beach, MD?
You are perfectly positioned for an East Coast adventure. A great RV road trip from Riviera Beach starts with the 3-hour run east to Assateague Island National Seashore for wild ponies and Atlantic surf. Head north 1.5 hours to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for Civil War history and rolling-farmland campgrounds. Drive 3 hours west to Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive for 105 miles of mountain ridges. Or cruise 4 hours south to Virginia Beach via the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Cross-border note: trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval, but travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm cross-state plans and unlock the best loop for your dates.
nps.gov/shen/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for, and what are gas prices like?
Budgeting is easier than you'd expect. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches sit around 6 to 10 MPG; travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but will drop your tow vehicle by 4 to 6 MPG. Maryland gas prices generally hover near the national average, and you'll find competitively priced stations along Mountain Road and at the Royal Farms on Fort Smallwood Road right in Riviera Beach. Pro tip: fill up before crossing the Bay Bridge, prices on the Eastern Shore can run 15 to 25 cents higher near Ocean City. A smaller rig is the easiest way to stretch your fuel budget.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Riviera Beach?
For peak summer weekends, book as early as you can, ideally 3 to 6 months out. Maryland State Parks like Sandy Point and Assateague open reservations well in advance through the official Maryland Park Reservations system, and they sell out fast for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Private parks like Duncan's Family Campground and Capitol KOA usually have more flexibility but still fill up by late spring. For shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, or October, 3 to 4 weeks of lead time is usually fine. Pro tip: set a Campnab alert for Sandy Point cancellations, popular sites open up daily as plans shift.
parkreservations.maryland.gov/What's it like driving an RV around Riviera Beach and the Baltimore-Annapolis area?
It's very manageable once you know the local quirks. Riviera Beach sits on a peninsula off Mountain Road (MD-177), so the streets are calm, but watch for low-clearance areas under the I-695 and I-97 overpasses if you're in a Class A. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge (US-50/301) is the area's signature drive: stunning, but high-wind advisories close it to high-profile vehicles a few times each year, check the Maryland Transportation Authority alerts before you cross. Baltimore Beltway traffic peaks 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Pro tip: nervous about city driving? Book delivery and meet your motorhome rental Riviera Beach at the campground instead.
mdta.maryland.gov/Toll_Facilities/CBB.htmlWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Riviera Beach?
Local campgrounds make hookups and dumping straightforward. Capitol KOA Holiday in Millersville and Duncan's Family Campground both offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and an on-site dump station. Sandy Point State Park has limited utility hookups primarily for boat-trailer overnight parking, so plan to dump at a private park like Capitol KOA on your way home (call ahead about non-guest fees). Potable water fill stations are available at most private parks and at many Maryland State Parks. Pro tip: download the Sanidumps app to map out free and low-cost dump sites along your Anne Arundel County route, super handy on longer loops.
dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/Camping.aspxWhat is actually inside the RV, beds, kitchen, bathroom, Wi-Fi?
You will be impressed by how much fits inside. Most RVs on RVezy come with real beds (queen or king in the master, plus convertible dinettes and bunks), a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (AC and furnace), and seatbelted seating for travel. Many rigs include a flat-screen TV, Bluetooth stereo, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid stays at places like Greenbrier State Park. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others recommend using your phone's data. Pro tip: read each listing's amenities section carefully and message the host if you need specific items (a coffee maker, baby gate, or extra linens) so the rig is set up exactly how you want it.
rvezy.com/What add-ons and pickup options can I choose during booking?
You can customize your rental like you are packing a hotel suite. Common host add-ons in the Riviera Beach area include kitchen kits ($25 to $75), linen and towel packages ($25 to $50), camp chairs and tables, bikes, kayaks, generators, propane refills, and extra mileage packages. Pickup is typically at the host's home or a meet-up spot near Mountain Road, and many hosts also offer delivery to Sandy Point State Park, Duncan's Family Campground, or your home for a per-mile fee. Dropoff usually mirrors pickup, with a cleaning fee built in or paid separately. Pro tip: ask your host to throw in a paper Maryland map at pickup, cell service can get patchy near the Eastern Shore and Assateague.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Riviera%20Beach%2C%20MarylandHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple, secure, and entirely through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash or a check to a host. You will pay your rental total (nightly rate, fees, taxes, and your chosen protection plan) by credit card during booking, with the host's payout released after your trip starts. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card around pickup time, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Pro tip: take date-stamped walkaround photos at pickup and dropoff of your Riviera Beach RV trip. It is the single best way to avoid any deposit disputes and roll into your next booking stress-free.
