Rossville camping overview

Rossville is an unincorporated community in eastern Baltimore County, just northeast of downtown Baltimore along the I-695 Beltway and the I-95 corridor. Its position puts RV travelers within easy reach of the upper Chesapeake Bay, the Patapsco River valley, and the greater Washington, D.C. metro area, all within a two-hour drive. Most usable campgrounds sit outside the immediate urban footprint. To the east, Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina in Abingdon offers a full-service waterfront experience on the Bush River near the upper Chesapeake Bay in Harford County. To the west, Patapsco Valley State Park - Hollofield Area sits along the Patapsco River corridor and, when open, offers both electric and primitive sites within reach of Baltimore and Washington. Farther afield, the Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday serves travelers heading south toward the capital, while Bay Shore Campground and Merry Meadows Recreation Farm add options beyond the Baltimore metro. Together the five nearby parks cover waterfront, wooded state land, and family-oriented private resorts.

Things to do near Rossville

Water access defines much of the recreation. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina sits on a wooded peninsula along the Bush River and offers a marina with boat slips, a boat ramp, fishing piers, kayaking access, and a waterfront swimming pool. Fishing and crabbing are practical directly from the shoreline. Inland, Patapsco Valley State Park supports hiking, fishing, canoeing, horseback trails and mountain bike trails, as well as picnicking in pavilions available for rental. The park also features a view of the historic Thomas Viaduct in the Avalon Area. Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium, Fort McHenry, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards are all within a short drive of Rossville, giving families a mix of city sightseeing and outdoor recreation without long transit days.

The camping season around Rossville splits between year-round private parks and seasonal state-run sites. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina operates on a longer calendar with full hookups, making it a reliable option for shoulder-season trips when other parks may be shut. The swimming pool at Bar Harbor is seasonal. State-park camping runs a shorter calendar. The Hollofield Area campground at Patapsco Valley State Park has been closed for renovations and is not accepting reservations during the current renovation period, though the Hollofield day-use area remains open regular hours and the day-use pavilions can still be reserved. Travelers should confirm status with the Maryland Park Service before planning around it. The nearby Hilton Area of Patapsco Valley remains open as an alternative. Summer is peak season across the region, with humid heat, afternoon thunderstorms, and busy weekends. Spring and fall bring milder temperatures and better site availability, while winter camping is limited to the private, full-hookup parks that stay open.

Overall good time. Gray and black water were 2/3 full though and would have been nice to be empty. WiFi was ok in location but sometimes didn’t work. Maybe suspension does need a look over not horrible but slightly loose. Fresh water all the way full would be nice also. I tried to leave it cleaner than I got it as well for the delay on drop off but made sure to get here early this am.

We had such a fantastic time in this RV. It was in ideal size for our family of 5. We travelled from Maryland, through ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. It was nice to drive and didn't feel too big. Clean throughout and no major issues. The host was very helpful and responded super quick to queries. We hope to rent again in the future.

Both VANessa and Vanessa were awesome. All the amenities are thoughtfully available. Van drove well and my son and I had a trip we’ll talk about for years and remember forever. Vanessa is a great communicator and great person. 5+ stars.

Had an amazing travel experience with VANessa and Vanessa was a joy to work with. So very accommodating. The van is beautiful and has everything you could want. Even my pup Seamus gave it two paws up!

How to book campgrounds near Rossville

Reservation systems split by park type. Reservations for Patapsco Valley State Park campsites, including Hollofield when it reopens, are made through the Maryland Park Service portal at parkreservations.maryland.gov. Maryland opens state-park campsite reservations up to 365 days in advance on a rolling daily basis, and popular sites fill quickly at release. Private parks handle their own bookings. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina, Bay Shore Campground, and Merry Meadows Recreation Farm each accept reservations directly through their websites or by phone. Washington DC / Capitol KOA Holiday uses the KOA reservation platform. For summer weekends and holiday periods, book several months ahead. Waterfront and full-hookup pull-through sites go first, so travelers with larger rigs should reserve earliest.

What to expect on the ground

Site character varies widely. Bar Harbor RV Park and Marina has around 91 sites with four-point hookups including water, sewer, 30 and 50-amp electric, and cable TV, with both waterfront and off-waterfront pull-through options. Expect a marina atmosphere with fishing piers, on-site laundry, a camp store, propane sales, and a seasonal pool. State-park sites are more rustic. The Hollofield campground has 73 sites, some with electric hookups, arranged in loops with picnic tables and fire rings, and campers with rigs over 11 feet 1 inch in height must enter via the Route 40 East entrance. Cell service is generally reliable across the region. Roads near Rossville are urban and busy, so plan arrivals outside rush hour on I-695 and I-95.
