Campgrounds near Adams, Massachusetts
Adams sits in the northern Berkshires of western Massachusetts at the base of Mount Greylock, the state's highest peak. RV travelers use it as a base for hiking, waterfalls, and the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, with campgrounds in the surrounding hill towns of Savoy, Florida, Clarksburg, Hancock, and Lanesborough.
Options split between state-run and private grounds. Savoy Mountain State Forest, a former apple orchard turned campground in the northwestern Berkshires, offers 45 spacious campsites and 4 log cabins, with two ponds for fishing, picnicking, hiking, and swimming. Clarksburg State Park has a 45-site campground in a forested setting near Mausert's Pond, with views of both the Berkshire Hills and the Green Mountains.
Private grounds fill in the gaps for larger rigs and longer stays. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park is a family- and pet-friendly campground with 115 campsites for RVs and tents at the base of Mount Greylock Reservation in Lanesborough. Privacy Campground sits in the northern Berkshires a short drive from Williamstown. Pine Hollow Campground lies just over the Vermont line near Pownal.
Things to do near Adams
Mount Greylock anchors the area. The state reservation has an extensive network of hiking trails, and visitors can drive to the summit for panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail runs paved through Adams for easy family biking and strollers.
Water and waterfalls fill out the itinerary. Two ponds at Savoy Mountain State Forest offer places to fish, picnic, hike, and swim, and Tannery Falls is one of the state's highest waterfalls. Mausert's Pond at Clarksburg State Park has swimming in designated areas, canoeing, hiking, picnicking, and fishing.
Rainy-day and cultural options include MASS MoCA in nearby North Adams, the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, and Tanglewood concerts in the southern Berkshires during summer.

The camping window is short. The camping season at Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation campgrounds begins in April and continues through October. Clarksburg State Park operates seasonally from mid-May through mid-October, with 45 sites that accommodate tents and small RVs. Savoy Mountain State Forest also operates from mid-May through mid-October, offering tent sites, RV sites without hookups, and four log cabins.
Private parks stretch the shoulder season. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park is typically open from mid-April to early November. Summer weekends and fall foliage draw peak demand, so sites fill early.
One important note for planning: Savoy Mountain State Forest will close its campground partway through the season to accommodate a bathhouse construction project, so confirm current dates on the DCR reservation portal before booking. DCR has also added new yurts at Clarksburg State Park. Winter closes state campgrounds entirely, and black bear activity plus mud season affect spring conditions.
How to book a campground near Adams
State parks and private grounds use different systems. Reservations for DCR camping can be made up to four months in advance. Walk-in camping is not allowed, but guests can make same-day reservations until 2 p.m. either online through the Mass DCR camping portal on ReserveAmerica or by calling (877) 422-6762. Camping reservations at Massachusetts state parks open to the public in mid-February for the coming season.
Private grounds such as Mt. Greylock Campsite Park, Privacy Campground, and Pine Hollow Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park typically opens next-season bookings in mid-November. Call ahead for longer rigs and pull-through availability.
What to expect on-site
Hookups vary widely. Savoy Mountain State Forest has no RV hookups, but a dump station is available. Clarksburg State Park has no electrical hookups and no dump station; sites suit tents, pop-ups, and small RVs. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park RV sites include water, electricity, and a grey-water hookup, with a picnic table and fire ring at each site. Cell service is thin in the hills and drops off at forested sites.
Bears are active. Keep all food, coolers, cooking supplies, and equipment in the food-storage lockers provided, and do not keep food or toiletries in tents or campers. Massachusetts prohibits transporting firewood or wood products into or out of any DCR campground, so buy bundles on-site.
Roads in the state forests are winding and partly gravel; large rigs should confirm site length and access before booking.

Travel trailers in the Berkshires typically run $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes average $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches start around $250. Hosts set their own rates on RVezy, so you see real prices on every listing with no surprise fees. Pro tip: a Sunday-through-Thursday trip during foliage week in early October can save you 20 to 30 percent versus a peak summer weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Adams,%20MassachusettsWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Adams, Massachusetts?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Massachusetts, with no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement required for any RV on the RVezy platform. You must be 25 or older and complete a quick ID confirmation through your RVezy account, which only takes a few minutes. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club. Most first-time renters in the Berkshires are surprised by how simple the process is: you book, verify, and pick up the keys.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my RVezy booking?
Every RV rental in Adams includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Mohawk Trail with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible damage to the RV while it is in your care, and you choose the coverage level that fits your trip and budget during checkout, not the host. Coverage tiers differ in deductible and included limits, so reviewing them before booking helps you pick the right fit. Pro tip: pair your protection choice with pickup photos and a quick walkthrough video so you can focus on the foliage instead of the fine print.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Adams RV rental?
Plans change, and RVezy applies a built-in cancellation policy to every booking, so there is no host-by-host guesswork. You can review the full cancellation terms and refund windows on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm your trip. If a major event such as a natural disaster or severe Berkshires storm disrupts your plans, RVezy support can help review your options. Booking your Berkshires RV trip is genuinely low-risk, so go ahead and lock in those October foliage dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Adams?
Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental in Adams is easy to find on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see every host who welcomes furry travelers. Many Berkshires hosts are dog owners themselves and provide tie-outs, mats, or extra towels. Once you are on the road, leashed dogs are welcome on the trails at Mount Greylock State Reservation, at Savoy Mountain State Forest, and along the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, which runs right through Adams. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have multiple pets or a large breed; many will accommodate well-behaved dogs.
mass.gov/locations/mount-greylock-state-reservationCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Adams?
Yes, RV delivery in Adams is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a motorhome through the winding Berkshire backroads. Use the Delivery filter to find local hosts who will drop the RV at Historic Valley Campground in North Adams, Clarksburg State Park, Mt. Greylock Campsite Park in Lanesborough, or even a friend's driveway. Most hosts charge a per-mile delivery fee and include full setup, leveling, hookups, and a walkthrough so you can step in and start your trip stress-free. Pro tip: delivery is especially smart if you are attending an event at Tourists hotel or MASS MoCA.
northadams-ma.gov/visit_our_city/historic_valley_campground/index.phpHow far can I drive on an RV trip from Adams, MA?
You can drive as far as your itinerary allows, and the Berkshires sit at the crossroads of some incredible road trip destinations. Each RVezy listing shows the host's daily mileage allowance up front, and many offer RV rental with unlimited mileage or generous packages above 100 miles per day. From Adams, you're roughly 45 minutes to Lenox and Tanglewood, 1 hour to Bennington, Vermont, 1.5 hours to Albany, New York, 2.5 hours to Boston, 3 hours to the White Mountains, and about 3.5 hours to New York City. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer Berkshires-to-Acadia loop, filter by unlimited mileage to keep your budget predictable.
mass.gov/info-details/massachusetts-scenic-bywaysWhere are the best campgrounds near Adams, MA for an RV?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Adams. Historic Valley Campground in North Adams offers sites with electric and water hookups next to Windsor Lake, just minutes from downtown Adams. Clarksburg State Park provides a quieter, wooded experience with pond access, while Mt. Greylock Campsite Park in nearby Lanesborough offers full hookups, ideal for larger rigs. Savoy Mountain State Forest is a short drive east, with sites and trails leading to waterfalls. Note that Mount Greylock's Sperry Road Campground is tent-only and does not accept RVs. Pro tip: book Historic Valley early for foliage season, since it fills up fast.
mass.gov/locations/mount-greylock-state-reservationWhen is the best time of year to take an RV trip in Adams, MA?
Adams has four genuinely distinct seasons, and there's a sweet spot for every kind of traveler. Late May through mid-October is peak RV season, with daytime highs from the mid-60s in May to the low 80s in July and back to the 60s in October. Late September through Columbus Day is the legendary Berkshires foliage window, when sugar maples on Mount Greylock turn brilliant red and orange. July and August are warm and lively with Tanglewood concerts in nearby Lenox. Winters are cold (lows in the teens) and most campgrounds close from November through April. Pro tip: book your foliage RV rental in Adams by July, the second week of October sells out first.
weather.gov/aly/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in the Berkshires?
You've got this. First time renting an RV is easier than it looks, and your host will walk you through every system at pickup, from propane and water tanks to slide-outs and dump valves, so you are never left guessing. For your first Berkshires trip, consider a travel trailer paired with delivery, or a smaller Class C or Class B campervan rental in Adams that drives much like a large van. Stick to Route 7, Route 8, and Route 2 (the Mohawk Trail) for the easiest driving. Note that vehicles over 22 feet are restricted on the Mount Greylock summit road. Pro tip: message your host with questions before booking, since they love helping first-timers succeed.
mass.gov/locations/mount-greylock-state-reservationWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem on the road?
You are never alone out there. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 2 or a dead battery at Historic Valley Campground is a phone call away from being solved. The roadside team can dispatch tire changes, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV, like which fuse controls the fridge. RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Adams, and snap a photo of the VIN on the dash for faster dispatch.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an RV rental from Adams across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, the Berkshires are an ideal launchpad for a multi-state RV road trip from Adams. Travel within the United States is allowed on every RVezy rental, so a quick hop to Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest (40 minutes), the Adirondacks in New York (2 hours), or up to coastal Maine is fair game. Cross-border travel into Canada (Montreal is about 4.5 hours north) may be allowed with host approval and proper insurance documentation, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a popular 5-day loop is Adams to Stowe, Vermont, to North Conway, New Hampshire, and back.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Berkshires RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier parts of your budget to predict. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A coaches run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle, usually 10 to 14 MPG combined. Massachusetts gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, with Adams-area stations on Route 8 and Park Street usually offering the best local prices. For a 3-day, 250-mile Berkshires loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Adams or North Adams before heading into Vermont, where gas is often pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Adams?
For peak summer weekends and foliage season, book your campsite as soon as you book the RV, ideally 3 to 4 months ahead. Massachusetts state parks like Clarksburg and Savoy Mountain reserve through ReserveAmerica, with bookings opening up to 6 months in advance. Historic Valley Campground in North Adams books directly through the city. Private parks like Mt. Greylock Campsite Park can usually be reserved 1 to 2 months out for weekdays. For a spontaneous shoulder-season Adams RV trip in May or late September, you can often find sites a week or two ahead. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday or Monday) are easier to score and often cheaper.
mass.gov/info-details/reserve-a-campsite-cabin-or-yurtWhat are driving conditions like around Adams and the Berkshires?
Driving around Adams is straightforward if you stick to the main routes. Route 8 runs north-south through town and is RV-friendly, as is Route 2 (the historic Mohawk Trail). The famous Mohawk Trail hairpin turn east of North Adams is dramatic but manageable at slow speeds. Avoid the Mount Greylock Auto Road to the summit if your RV is longer than 22 feet, that's a state restriction. Winter (December through March) brings snow and ice, so most renters travel May through October. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk along Route 7 and Route 8. Pro tip: download offline maps before you leave Adams, cell service drops in the hills.
mass.gov/orgs/highway-divisionWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Adams?
Most campgrounds near Adams offer the essentials you'll need for a comfortable stay. Historic Valley Campground provides electric, water, and some full-hookup sites with a dump station on-site, plus lake swimming. Mt. Greylock Campsite Park has full hookups including sewer and 50-amp electric. Clarksburg State Park and Savoy Mountain State Forest offer electric and water at many sites, vault or flush toilets, and shared dump stations. Potable water fills are available at all four. Most campgrounds have a camp store for ice, firewood, and basics. Pro tip: dump and fill your tanks before leaving the campground on departure day, the next public dump station can be 20 plus miles away.
mass.gov/info-details/reserve-a-campsite-cabin-or-yurtWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Adams?

A typical motorhome rental in Adams includes a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette or bunk beds (great for a family RV trip in Adams), a kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, a furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many hosts include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a propane grill. Some listings include a generator or solar setup for off-grid stays near remote Berkshires trailheads. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities for a Wi-Fi hotspot, leveling blocks, and starter kits with linens and kitchenware, since those add-ons save you a packing headache.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Adams,%20MassachusettsWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with my Adams RV rental?
Hosts in Adams offer a friendly menu of add-ons that can transform your trip. Common extras include linen and kitchen packages, generator use, bike racks, kayak carriers, outdoor furniture, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Adams, North Adams, Cheshire, or Pittsfield, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Delivery to local campgrounds typically costs a per-mile fee set by the host. Mileage policies vary by listing, with 100 to 150 miles per day being common and unlimited mileage offered by some hosts. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a starter kit for a fully turnkey Berkshires arrival.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Adams,%20MassachusettsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. Your total includes the nightly rate, host add-ons, taxes, the RVezy service fee, and your chosen protection plan. The refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Deposit amounts are set by the host and vary by RV. Pro tip: take dated photos and a short video of the RV at pickup and dropoff to keep your Adams RV trip stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre RV rentals available in Adams during winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Adams is possible and can be genuinely magical: think snowy peaks of Mount Greylock, fewer crowds, and easy access to Jiminy Peak and Bousquet ski areas. Some hosts winterize their RVs from December to March, while others offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces. If you are camping in winter, plan on a private park with shore power hookups, since most Massachusetts state campgrounds close after Columbus Day. Filter for four-season RVs and message the host to confirm cold-weather readiness. Pro tip: a delivered, plugged-in RV in a driveway near Adams makes a perfect basecamp for a ski-and-soak weekend at nearby resorts.
