Campgrounds near Easthampton
Easthampton sits in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, at the base of Mount Tom and within easy driving distance of Northampton, Springfield, and the Berkshire foothills. RV travelers use it as a base for state forest camping, riverside recreation on the Connecticut River, and stops at the Five College area attractions.
Campground options near the city split into two categories. Private, full-hookup parks such as Northampton / Springfield KOA Holiday, White Birch Campgrounds, Sodom Mountain Campground, and Southwick Acres Campgrounds handle larger rigs with water, sewer, and electric service, plus amenities like pools, laundry, and dump stations. DAR State Forest, run by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, offers a more rustic experience on Upper Highland Lake in Goshen, about 45 minutes northwest of Easthampton.
Most RV travelers within an hour of Easthampton stay at private parks for the hookups, then day-trip into the state forests for hiking, swimming, and paddling.
Things to do near Easthampton
Outdoor recreation drives most trips. DAR State Forest sits on a ridge between Upper Highland Lake and a scenic wetland, with hiking trails, a fire tower with elevated forest views, and both a public beach and a campers-only beach for swimming. The lake supports kayaking and fishing, though the boat launch is narrow.
Closer to town, Mount Tom State Reservation and the Manhan Rail Trail are within minutes of Easthampton for hiking and cycling. Families with an RV base at Northampton / Springfield KOA Holiday can reach MGM Springfield, Six Flags New England in Agawam, and the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield in about half an hour, plus downtown Northampton for restaurants, museums, and independent shops. The Big E fairgrounds in West Springfield is another common day trip in September.

The camping season in western Massachusetts is short and clearly defined. Private parks near Easthampton typically open in mid to late April and close by the end of October. Northampton / Springfield KOA Holiday runs a seasonal schedule ending October 31. DAR State Forest campgrounds run a shorter window, generally from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend, so trip dates should be confirmed on the DCR reservation portal before booking.
Summer is peak season. Warm days, lake swimming, and school-break demand push private and state sites to fill weeks in advance, especially on weekends and around the Fourth of July. Massachusetts state park sites move quickly once the reservation window opens, and popular weekends at DAR are frequently full soon after the four-month booking window rolls forward.
September and early October bring cooler nights, lighter crowds, and Pioneer Valley fall foliage. Winter camping is not an option at most parks in this area; expect closures from November through March.

How to book a campground near Easthampton
State forest sites and private parks use different systems. For DAR State Forest, reservations can be made up to four months in advance of the arrival date through the Massachusetts DCR portal on ReserveAmerica. Same-day advance reservations are accepted up until 2 p.m. on the date of arrival, but walk-in registrations are not permitted. Reservations with departure dates outside the four-month maximum window cannot be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made, and cancellations or changes incur a fee.
Private parks such as Northampton / Springfield KOA Holiday, White Birch Campgrounds, Sodom Mountain Campground, and Southwick Acres Campgrounds book direct through their own websites or the KOA app. For summer weekends and foliage weekends in October, booking eight to twelve weeks out is safest.
What to expect at campgrounds near Easthampton
Amenities vary sharply between private and state campgrounds. Northampton / Springfield KOA Holiday provides full-service RV infrastructure, including pull-through sites for big rigs, water, sewer, and electric hookups, propane, a dump station, laundry, showers, and swimming pools. Southwick Acres Campgrounds, Sodom Mountain Campground, and White Birch Campgrounds offer similar family-oriented setups with hookups and recreation.
Expectations at DAR State Forest are different. There are no hookups at the campsites, though a dumping station is available at the HQ complex, and while most sites suit smaller trailers and tents, very large RVs may face access challenges. Massachusetts regulations prohibit transporting firewood or any wood products into or out of DCR campgrounds, so buy firewood on-site or from a local vendor. Cell reception is limited in the DAR area.

mass.gov/locations/dar-state-forestWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Easthampton?
Good news: a regular Class D passenger driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Easthampton for any motorhome or trailer under 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which covers virtually every rental on RVezy. No special Massachusetts RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking, so there is no DMV trip or extra paperwork. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit alongside your home license works. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward the process really is.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Easthampton is low risk because RVezy (not the host) sets a consistent cancellation policy across every listing, including a money-back grace period right after booking. That means you can lock in a great rig for fall foliage weekend or a family trip without feeling stuck if plans shift. Specifics depend on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start date. Pro tip: book early to secure the best Easthampton RV trip dates, then review the full cancellation details in your booking confirmation so you know exactly where you stand.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Easthampton RV trip?
Absolutely, and Easthampton is a great launchpad for dog lovers. Use the 'Pet-Friendly' filter on RVezy to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental Easthampton hosts offer, then message the host with your pup's size and breed to confirm any small details. Once on the road, Massachusetts state campgrounds like DAR State Forest in Goshen and Tolland State Forest allow up to four leashed pets per site with a current rabies certificate at check-in. Locally, the Manhan Rail Trail right in Easthampton is a fantastic leashed-dog walk, and Mount Tom State Reservation just minutes away has miles of forested trails. Bring the rabies paperwork and you're set.
mass.gov/info-details/pets-in-dcr-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Easthampton?
Yes, RV delivery in Easthampton is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to RVing or just do not want to drive a big rig through downtown. Many RVezy hosts deliver and set up at nearby campgrounds like Northampton/Springfield KOA in Westhampton, DAR State Forest in Goshen, or directly to your driveway in Easthampton, Northampton, or Holyoke. The host levels the RV, connects hookups, walks you through every system, and picks it up at the end, so you get a turnkey cabin on wheels. Use the Delivery filter to see hosts offering this, then message them with your address to confirm the delivery fee.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Easthampton,MassachusettsHow far can I drive from Easthampton on a one-week RV trip?
Easthampton sits in the sweet spot of the Northeast, giving you incredible range without exhausting drive days. From your Easthampton RV trip basecamp, the White Mountains of New Hampshire are about 2.5 hours north, Acadia National Park in Maine is roughly 6 hours, the Vermont Green Mountains and Lake Champlain are 2 to 3 hours, Cape Cod is about 2.5 hours east, and the Adirondacks in New York are around 3.5 hours west. Most hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day) with optional unlimited-mileage upgrades. Some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, so filter for that if you're planning a longer loop.
mass.gov/orgs/highway-divisionWhere are the best campgrounds near Easthampton, MA?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Easthampton MA. The best campgrounds near Easthampton include Northampton/Springfield KOA in Westhampton (about 10 minutes away, full hookups, pool, and family activities), DAR State Forest in Goshen (51 wooded sites on Upper Highland Lake, 25 minutes north), Tolland State Forest on Otis Reservoir (about 45 minutes west with lakefront sites), Prospect Mountain Campground in Granville, and Country Aire Campground in Belchertown. Massachusetts DCR sites book through ReserveAmerica up to four months in advance, while private parks like KOA have their own systems. Local insider tip: the KOA is your easiest option if your RV needs full hookups.
mass.gov/locations/dar-state-forestWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Easthampton?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for an RV rental in Massachusetts, with the absolute sweet spot being late September through the second week of October when the Pioneer Valley explodes into world-class fall foliage. Summer highs in Easthampton average 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit with comfortable 60-degree nights, while fall brings crisp 60 to 70-degree days perfect for hiking Mount Tom. Massachusetts state campgrounds typically operate April through October. Local insider tip: book your foliage week trip by July, because Western Mass leaf-peeping draws visitors from across the Northeast and the best sites disappear fast.
weather.gov/box/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting one in Easthampton really doable?
Yes, and first time renting an RV in Easthampton is easier than you'd think. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the propane system, slide-outs, and the bathroom step by step. You can also message your host before booking with any question, no matter how small. Easthampton itself has wide, low-traffic roads, so leaving town toward Route 10 or I-91 is gentle compared to Boston-area driving. Start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first trip, and consider asking your host about delivery to your first campground so you don't have to drive at all on day one.
mass.gov/topics/safe-drivingWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat near the Mohawk Trail or a battery dies at Tolland State Forest, one phone call gets help dispatched. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip for any platform or trip questions. Your host is typically just a text away too and can walk you through quirks like a finicky water pump or stuck slide-out. Save the roadside number to your phone before pickup and you will roll out feeling fully backed up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Easthampton rental RV across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, traveling across state lines from Easthampton is normal. An RV road trip from Easthampton easily reaches Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, all covered under standard RVezy protection. Heading to Canada (Montreal is about 4 hours north, Quebec City around 6) may be allowed depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. One firm rule across the platform: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. Otherwise, the Northeast is your oyster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on my Easthampton RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but easy to plan for. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 MPG, and trucks towing travel trailers land around 10 to 14 MPG. Massachusetts gas prices typically sit slightly above the national average, so budget around $70 to $120 in fuel per day for a typical Class C touring Western Mass. Local tip: gas stations along Route 10 in Easthampton and Northampton are usually cheaper than I-91 exits, and the Costco in West Springfield (about 25 minutes south) offers the lowest prices around if you're a member.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Easthampton?
For Massachusetts state campgrounds like DAR State Forest, Tolland State Forest, and Mohawk Trail State Forest, reservations open exactly four months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends plus fall foliage weeks book out almost instantly when that window opens. Private parks like Northampton/Springfield KOA generally accept reservations 6 to 12 months out. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for 9 a.m. on the day exactly four months before your target arrival date and have your ReserveAmerica account ready to go. If you miss out, same-day reservations are still allowed until 2 p.m., and midweek availability in shoulder season is often wide open.
mass.gov/how-to/reserve-a-campsiteWhat are the driving conditions like around Easthampton?
Driving conditions around Easthampton are very RV-friendly. Route 10, Route 5, and I-91 are the main arteries, all with wide lanes and gentle terrain through the Connecticut River Valley. The classic scenic routes (the Mohawk Trail / Route 2 and Jacob's Ladder Trail / Route 20) include some winding mountain sections and steep grades, so take them slowly and use lower gears on the descents. Watch for low-clearance covered bridges in surrounding hill towns (most are signed at 10 to 12 feet, so don't follow your phone GPS blindly). Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, which is why most RV rentals run April through October. Stick to the warmer months and you'll have an easy ride.
mass.gov/orgs/highway-divisionWhat amenities do campgrounds near Easthampton actually offer?
Most campgrounds near Easthampton offer a great mix of comfort and woods-y feel. The Northampton/Springfield KOA has full hookups (water, electric, sewer), a pool, Wi-Fi, and a camp store. DAR State Forest has 51 sites with flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station at the HQ Complex (no hookups at individual sites). Tolland State Forest offers waterfront sites and a dump station. For potable water fills and dump stations between trips, the KOA and most private parks allow non-guest dump service for a small fee. Insider tip: if your rental doesn't have huge fresh and waste tanks, the KOA's full hookups make a multi-night Easthampton stay completely hassle-free.
mass.gov/locations/tolland-state-forestWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Easthampton?
More than you might expect. A typical motorhome rental Easthampton listing includes a full kitchen (fridge/freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, real beds (queen in the master, plus convertible dinettes and bunks depending on size), heating and air conditioning, a dining area, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone on board. Most have a TV, many have Wi-Fi hotspots or generators for boondocking, and family-sized Class Cs typically sleep four to seven people. Campervan rental Easthampton options (Class B) are more compact but still include a galley, bed, and often a wet bath. Each listing on RVezy shows photos, sleep count, and a full amenities checklist so you know exactly what you're getting.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/title49/section/393.93What add-ons can I get and how does pickup work?
Hosts in Easthampton commonly offer add-ons like camp chair and table kits, kitchen and bedding packages, bike racks, generators, propane fills, and extra mileage bundles, all listed transparently on the listing page. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Easthampton or nearby towns like Northampton, Holyoke, or Westfield, with a thorough walkthrough included. Mileage policies vary by host (typically 100 to 150 free miles per day, with some offering unlimited), and most hosts allow generator hours included or as a small add-on. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a bedding/kitchen kit and you can literally show up at your campground with just clothes and groceries. It's vacation, not homework.
easthamptonma.gov/How does payment work and what about the security deposit?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at booking, never directly to the host, which keeps you protected. Your host sets a security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) that is held as a pre-authorization on your card, separate from your booking payment, and released after the trip if the RV comes back in good shape. To avoid deposit issues, do a quick walk-through video with your host at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks (or pay the host dump fee). Easy in, easy out.
