Campgrounds near North Westport
North Westport sits in southeastern Massachusetts on the Rhode Island line, roughly ten minutes from the Atlantic and within easy reach of Buzzards Bay, Newport, and the western approach to Cape Cod. The area gives RV renters a mix of oceanfront state camping, wooded state-park sites, and full-hookup private parks, all within a short drive of the city.
The closest option is Horseneck Beach State Reservation, a 100-site campground spread across nearly 800 acres of barrier beach and salt marsh in Westport Point. Just across the state line, Meadowlark RV Park in Middletown, Rhode Island, provides a full-hookup base on Aquidneck Island for travelers heading to Newport. Farther inland, Massasoit State Park offers tent and RV camping in a forested setting with swimming, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, and fishing.
For families wanting resort-style amenities, the Boston / Cape Cod KOA Holiday in Middleboro and Gateway to Cape Cod RV Campground in Rochester are both within about a 45-minute drive and work well as a base for day trips to Plymouth, Providence, or the Cape.
Things to do near North Westport
The coast is the main draw. Horseneck Beach State Reservation offers two miles of sand and surf on Buzzards Bay, protected salt marshes along the East Branch of the Westport River, and kayak access to tidal inlets from nearby Emma Tripp Landing. The paved, ADA-accessible walking path runs the length of the beach, and Gooseberry Island at the southeastern end of the reservation adds nature trails and remnants of two World War II observation towers.
Inland, Massasoit State Park has forested trails, a pond with a designated swimming beach and kayak access, and a fully accessible playground. Local wineries, farm stands, and the working waterfront at Westport Point round out an afternoon.
Day trips are easy: Newport mansions and the Cliff Walk are under an hour, and Plymouth, Providence, and the western Cape all sit within roughly a one-hour drive.

The camping season here is short and coastal-driven. Camping at Horseneck Beach State Reservation runs from mid-May through Columbus Day in mid-October, and the Boston / Cape Cod KOA Holiday operates from April 1 to November 1. Gateway to Cape Cod runs roughly from mid-April through mid-October, and Massasoit State Park is a warm-season operation as well.
July and August bring the warmest ocean temperatures, the busiest beaches, and the tightest availability, particularly for oceanfront sites at Horseneck. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day fill first. The Massachusetts DCR imposes a 7-night maximum cumulative stay for people and equipment on beachfront sites 63 through 100 at Horseneck between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with a 14-night overall cap during that period.
Late spring and September into early October are the sweet spot for RV renters: mild days, cooler nights, thinner crowds, and easier reservations. Meadowlark RV Park stays open outside the state-park season for travelers wanting a shoulder-season base.

How to book near North Westport
State-park sites near North Westport are booked through the Massachusetts DCR system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations at both Horseneck Beach State Reservation and Massasoit State Park can be made up to four months prior to the arrival date. Walk-in camping is not permitted at either park, and same-day reservations are accepted only up to 2 pm on the arrival date. Oceanfront sites at Horseneck are typically claimed within minutes of release on the rolling four-month window, so log in early on the release date.
Private parks use their own systems. The Boston / Cape Cod KOA Holiday takes bookings directly through the KOA website or by phone. Gateway to Cape Cod is part of the Thousand Trails / Equity Lifestyle network; non-members can book nightly stays through the resort site. Meadowlark RV Park handles reservations through its on-site office.
Massachusetts prohibits transporting firewood into or out of any DCR campground, so firewood must be purchased at the campground.
What to expect near North Westport
Sites vary widely in feel. Horseneck Beach has minimal tree cover, so wind off the water is a constant, cool nights are common even in summer, and afternoon sun on the exposed pads is a factor. The 100 back-in sites are paved, and the campground includes a comfort station with flush toilets and hot showers, a dump station, a playground, and courts, with hookups limited or absent depending on the site. Massasoit and Gateway to Cape Cod are the opposite: forested, shaded pads with more privacy between neighbors, and Massasoit offers 20/30/50-amp electric sites and a dump station.
The KOA in Middleboro is the most amenity-heavy option, with a pool, splash pad, jumping pillow, and organized activities for kids. Expect ticks in wooded and grassy areas from late spring through fall, mosquitoes near the salt marshes at dusk, and cell service that can be spotty at Gateway to Cape Cod.
