Campgrounds near Bloomington, Minnesota
Bloomington sits on the south edge of the Twin Cities metro, along the Minnesota River just north of the confluence with the Mississippi. It is best known as the home of the Mall of America and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, which makes it a practical arrival point for RV travelers flying in to pick up a rental and head into lake country.
RV parks are clustered in the near-south and southwest suburbs rather than in Bloomington itself. Town and Country Campground and RV Park in Savage sits about fifteen minutes southwest and is one of the closest full-hookup options to the Mall of America and downtown Minneapolis. Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake, Fish Lake Acres Campground on Fish Lake south of Prior Lake, Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday in Jordan, and Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey round out the ring of nearby choices.
Most travelers use these campgrounds as a base for city sightseeing and for the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, which runs directly through Bloomington and offers trails and river access within city limits.
Things to do near Bloomington
The Mall of America anchors most family itineraries and includes Nickelodeon Universe indoor amusement park, an aquarium, and easy light-rail access from park-and-ride lots. Valleyfair amusement park in Shakopee and the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley are both within a short drive of the campground cluster.
Outdoors, the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge threads through Bloomington with paved and unpaved trails, boardwalks, and birding platforms along the river bottoms. Hyland Lake Park Reserve offers swimming, a play area, and a chairlift-served hill. Anglers can launch on Fish Lake, Prior Lake, or the Minnesota River, and cyclists can pick up the regional trail network that connects to the Minneapolis Grand Rounds.

The Bloomington camping season is short and defined by hard freezes. Most private RV parks around the Twin Cities operate seasonally, typically opening in spring and closing in mid to late fall. Water hookups are commonly shut off before overnight lows fall below freezing, so shoulder-season stays may be electric-only.
June through August is peak season. Days run warm and humid, thunderstorms are frequent, and weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day book out weeks or months in advance at both KOA properties and the closer-in parks. Mosquitoes are heavy near river and lake sites through midsummer.
September and early October bring cooler nights, lower bug pressure, and fall color along the Minnesota River valley. Winter camping is not offered at the private parks listed here, and Twin Cities winters routinely drop well below freezing for weeks at a time.

How to book Bloomington campgrounds
Private campgrounds around Bloomington take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. The two KOA properties, Minneapolis Southwest KOA Holiday and Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey, also accept bookings through the KOA reservation system and loyalty program. Dakotah Meadows RV Park is operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community next to Mystic Lake Casino and books through the resort.
Minnesota state parks and recreation areas in the wider region use the ReserveMN system operated by the Minnesota DNR, which opens sites on a rolling 120-day, or four-month, window at 8 a.m. Central. For summer weekends and holiday periods, plan to book private sites two to three months out and be online the moment the state park window opens.
What to expect at Bloomington-area campgrounds
Expect suburban or exurban RV parks rather than backcountry settings. Town and Country Campground and RV Park is a compact, family-run property with full hookups, a heated pool, laundry, a game room, and sites that sit close together. Dakotah Meadows RV Park is a paved, resort-style park adjacent to a casino complex. The two KOA locations are more traditional wooded campgrounds with cabins, pools, and kid programming, while Fish Lake Acres Campground offers lakeshore sites and a sandy beach.
Full hookups, 30 and 50 amp service, and Wi-Fi are standard at these properties. Big-rig access is generally good, but interior roads and site spacing vary, so confirm length and slide clearance when booking. Cell coverage across the metro is strong on all major carriers.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bloomington, MN
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bloomington, MN?
An RV rental in Bloomington is more budget-friendly than most travelers expect. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes usually run $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes range from $225 to $400 per night. Because RVezy is a peer-to-peer marketplace, local hosts set their own pricing, so you can compare listings side by side and filter by price. For a cheap RV rental in Bloomington, look at smaller travel trailers or campervans and book midweek dates in May or September, when nightly rates often drop noticeably. Bundling delivery with a 4 to 7 night stay frequently unlocks the best per-night value.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bloomington,%20MinnesotaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Bloomington, MN?
Good news: a standard Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bloomington for personal travel, even for larger Class A motorhomes. Minnesota does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal-use recreational vehicles. To book on RVezy you must be at least 25 years old and pass a quick digital ID and driver verification before your trip. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP). Most first-time renters in the Twin Cities are surprised how quick and paperwork-free pickup is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Bloomington RV rental?
Every RV rental in Bloomington booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on I-35 or Highway 169 with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), which covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip. That means you decide how much extra cushion you want before exploring the Mississippi River bluffs or driving up to the North Shore. Coverage is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection most renters find more than sufficient. Combined with included roadside help, you have a strong safety net from pickup to drop-off.

Booking your Bloomington RV trip is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy that applies to every reservation. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, plus structured refund tiers based on how far in advance you cancel. You will see the exact terms during checkout. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy support helps with a refund or rebooking options. So go ahead and lock in those summer weekends near Itasca or prime fall-color dates along the St. Croix, you have a clear path to resolution if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Bloomington RV rental?
Absolutely, and Minnesota is one of the most dog-loving states you can road-trip in. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Bloomington, MN, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see dozens of listings whose hosts welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Many hosts include items like floor mats or a small pet fee, so message them before booking to confirm. Once you are rolling, Minnesota state parks allow leashed pets on most trails, and nearby Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan has a fenced 30-acre off-leash dog area just 15 minutes from Bloomington. Pro tip: pack a portable water bowl, summer humidity around the Twin Cities can sneak up on pups.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/rules.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in Bloomington?
Yes, RV delivery in Bloomington is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is ideal if you are flying into MSP Airport (just minutes from Bloomington) or visiting the Mall of America without a tow vehicle. Many hosts will drive your motorhome rental directly to your hotel, campground site, or even a friend's driveway, then handle setup, leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough so you are not figuring out the propane valve alone. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it and how far they will travel. A popular sweet spot is delivery to Lebanon Hills Regional Park or Minneapolis NW KOA, where the rig is fully ready when you arrive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bloomington,%20MinnesotaHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Bloomington?
Pretty much anywhere a great Midwest road trip can take you. Many Bloomington hosts offer generous mileage packages, and some even list RV rentals with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer routes. From Bloomington, popular RV road trips include Itasca State Park (about 215 miles northwest, headwaters of the Mississippi), Duluth and the North Shore (about 155 miles), Voyageurs National Park (about 290 miles), the Badlands in South Dakota (about 580 miles), and Door County, Wisconsin (about 330 miles). Check the daily mileage allowance on each listing before booking, and message the host if you are planning a big loop, they will often bundle extra miles at a discount. Pro tip: front-load your driving days to avoid Friday rush hour on I-494.
dot.state.mn.us/maps/Where can I camp near Bloomington, MN?
You have great options for the best campgrounds near Bloomington. Top picks include Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan (about 15 minutes away, with electric RV sites and trails around Schulze Lake), Town and Country Campground in Savage (about 20 minutes, year-round full hookups), Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake (about 25 minutes, level pads next to Mystic Lake), Minneapolis NW KOA in Maple Grove (about 30 minutes, pool and family programming), and Afton State Park along the St. Croix River (about 45 minutes, scenic bluff hikes). For RV camping closest to the action, Lebanon Hills is the local favorite. Book Lebanon Hills the moment your dates open, weekends fill quickly.
co.dakota.mn.us/parks/AllParks/LebanonHills/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time of year for a Bloomington RV trip?
The sweet spot for an RV trip from Bloomington runs from late May through early October, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 70s to mid-80s F and Twin Cities campgrounds are in full swing. June and September are the secret-weapon months: fewer mosquitoes, lower rates, and beautiful light, with fall colors typically peaking from late September into mid-October. July and August are peak family season, so book 2 to 3 months ahead. Winter RVing is doable for the adventurous, but many parks close in mid-October and overnight lows can drop well below 0 F in January. Target the week after Labor Day for the best price-to-weather ratio.
weather.gov/mpx/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will do great, even if it is your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host in Bloomington gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, propane, dump valves, and dashboard quirks. They are real owners, not a rental counter, so they actually know their rig. You can message them in-app any time during your trip with a question. For your first Bloomington, MN RV trip, consider a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer, they drive much like a large van or pickup, and the flat terrain around the Minnesota River makes for easy practice. Add 24/7 roadside assistance (included) and you have a full safety net.
dot.state.mn.us/safety/What happens if something goes wrong on the road?
Help is one phone call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat on I-494, a dead battery at Hyland Lake Park Reserve, or a propane regulator acting up at Afton State Park, you can get a tow, jump, tire change, or lockout service any time. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip, and your host is reachable directly through the app for RV-specific questions like resetting the inverter. Save both numbers in your phone before pulling out of Bloomington. A quick tire-pressure check before long stretches like the drive to Duluth heads off most common roadside issues.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an RV rental from Bloomington across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate trips are completely normal. From Bloomington you can easily roll into Wisconsin (St. Croix Falls is about 60 miles east), Iowa (Decorah is about 165 miles south), or South Dakota (Sioux Falls is about 240 miles southwest) without extra paperwork. Cross-border travel into Canada (think International Falls or Thunder Bay) may be allowed depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host through the listing before booking and confirm in writing. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection do not extend south of the border. Bring your passport for any Canada-bound RV road trip from Bloomington.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Bloomington RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it is easy to plan for. Minnesota's statewide average for regular unleaded typically ranges from about $3.00 to $3.75 per gallon according to AAA, with diesel running higher. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs around 7 to 10 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. For a 4-night, 400-mile loop from Bloomington to Duluth and back in a Class C, budget roughly $130 to $200 in fuel. Stations near Costco in Eden Prairie and Sam's Club in Bloomington consistently post some of the cheapest gas in the metro, fill up before you leave town.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=MNHow far in advance should I book a campground near Bloomington?
For Minnesota state parks, you can reserve through the official DNR system up to 120 days before your arrival date, and weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill almost instantly the morning slots open. Most state park sites are reservable year-round, so do not count on first-come, first-served at peak times. Private parks like Dakotah Meadows or Minneapolis NW KOA typically book 1 to 3 months ahead for summer weekends. For a family RV trip from Bloomington in July or August, aim to lock in your campground the day your 120-day window opens. Set a phone alarm a few minutes before reservations open on your target date.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/stay_overnight/index.htmlWhat is driving an RV like around Bloomington and the Twin Cities?
Driving an RV in Bloomington is easier than in most large metros. The city sits at the south edge of Minneapolis with flat terrain, wide lanes, and a well-marked grid of interstates (I-494, I-35W, and Highway 77). The trickiest spots are the I-494 and I-35W interchange during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and a few low clearances downtown, so keep tall rigs on the interstate loop rather than diving into the city core. Spring through fall driving is smooth, while winter driving is best avoided in a rental. Want to skip city driving altogether? Use RV delivery in Bloomington and have the host bring the RV directly to your campground or hotel.
dot.state.mn.us/metro/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Bloomington?
Most RV parks within an hour of Bloomington offer 30 or 50-amp electric, city water, and sewer hookups at full-hookup sites, plus a dump station for non-hookup sites. Lebanon Hills, Town and Country, and Dakotah Meadows all have potable water fill stations and dump stations on-site. Showers, flush toilets, laundry, and a camp store are standard at KOA and Dakotah Meadows, while state parks like Afton lean more rustic with vault toilets at some loops. Wi-Fi can be hit-or-miss, but cell coverage across the Twin Cities metro is excellent on major carriers. Top off fresh water before leaving the campground, the next reliable fill on the way north is often 60+ miles up I-35.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/camping.htmlWhat equipment comes inside the RV?
More than you would think. A typical motorhome rental in Bloomington comes fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa beds, a kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, propane stove and often an oven, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (air conditioning and furnace), and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Most rigs include a TV, and many have onboard generators, solar, or inverters for off-grid use. Wi-Fi hotspots, leveling blocks, outdoor chairs, and starter kits with linens and kitchenware are common host add-ons (some free, some a small fee). Check each listing's amenity list, and message the host if you need something specific like a child car seat anchor or extra bedding.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Bloomington offer a flexible menu of add-ons that make life easier: delivery and setup (often $2 to $4 per mile), generator hours, propane top-off, linen and kitchen kits ($50 to $100), bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, and dump-and-cleaning packages so you can hand the RV back without chores. Mileage policies vary, typical packages include 100 to 150 miles per day, with some campervan rental Bloomington listings offering unlimited miles for in-state travel. Pickup and drop-off times are set by the host and shown on the listing; many are flexible if you ask. Pro tip: book delivery to MSP Airport area if you are flying in, it eliminates the need for a rental car altogether.
mspairport.com/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, so you never hand cash or a check to the host. You pay by credit or debit card when you book, and the security deposit is a temporary hold placed on your card shortly before pickup (the amount is set by the host and shown on the listing). As long as the RV comes back in the same condition, on time, and within the mileage and generator allowances, the hold is released after your trip ends. To avoid surprises, snap timestamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's fuel and dump instructions, and message any concerns through the app so everything is documented. Easy, transparent, and protected end-to-end.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle cold-weather RVing around Bloomington?
Minnesota winters are real, but a cold-weather RV trip from Bloomington can be magical with smart planning. Look for listings tagged as four-season or with heated and enclosed holding tanks, and confirm with the host that the furnace, skirting, and heat-taped water lines are ready. Stay at a park with full shore-power hookups (Town and Country Campground in Savage stays open year-round), and use the fresh tank plus a heated hose rather than the campground spigot when temps dip below freezing. October highs average in the mid-50s F, while December through February often sit in the teens to 20s. Pair a winter rental with ice fishing on Lake Minnetonka or a trip up the North Shore for an unforgettable Minnesota memory.
