Campgrounds and RV parks near Falcon Heights, MN

The Minnesota State Fairgrounds anchors the city and hosts the annual state fair in late August, plus swap meets, car shows, and horse events across the rest of the year. The nearby Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, Bell Museum, and University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum add family-friendly stops within a short drive. Outdoor options open up quickly once campers leave the urban core. Fort Snelling State Park sits at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers with hiking, paddling, and historic sites. William O'Brien State Park and the Saint Croix River Valley are within an hour to the east, and the chain of lakes north of the metro supports fishing, swimming, and boating from private resorts such as Ham Lake Resort.

The core RV season in the Twin Cities runs from late April through mid-October. Private parks like Town and Country Campground and RV Park and Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey typically operate the longest, while state park campgrounds and lake-based resorts open once frost leaves the ground and water systems can be turned on. Summer weekends, and especially the twelve days of the Minnesota State Fair in late August and early September, are the busiest periods and fill earliest. Spring brings variable weather and heavy thunderstorm activity, with snowfall common into early spring. Fall delivers cool nights, strong color through late September and October, and lighter crowds after Labor Day. Winter camping is limited. Some private parks close entirely once water lines are winterized, while all campsites in Minnesota state parks and recreation areas require a reservation before they may be occupied, year-round, and sites that remain open in winter still need one.

Sites near Falcon Heights range from full-hookup pull-throughs at private parks to electric-only or rustic sites at state and county parks. Full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi are common at private resorts, while some drive-in campsites in state parks offer electric hook ups, and a small number of locations offer full hook ups with water and sewer. Roads into the metro are paved and RV-friendly, but downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul have height-restricted parkways and low bridges, so route planning with an RV-specific GPS is worthwhile. Cell coverage is strong across the metro and thins slightly at lakeside resorts north and east of the city. Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall. Bring repellent and expect quiet hours to be enforced at most private parks around the state fair.
