Campgrounds near Fridley, Minnesota
Fridley sits along the Mississippi River in the northern Twin Cities metro, roughly ten miles from downtown Minneapolis. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of both urban attractions and the lake-and-forest camping that defines central Minnesota, with parks in Anoka, Ramsey, and Washington counties all within easy reach.
Most campgrounds in the area are privately operated RV parks with full hookups, supplemented by state and regional park campgrounds around the surrounding lakes. Ham Lake Resort and Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey are the closest full-service options to the north, while Town and Country Campground and RV Park and Country Camping RV Park serve travelers approaching from the south and northeast. Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake offers a quieter lakeside setting east of the metro.
Because Fridley is a metro suburb rather than a park gateway, RV travelers typically use it as a base for day trips into Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the St. Croix River valley.
Things to do near Fridley
The Mississippi River corridor and the chain of lakes just north of the city drive most of the outdoor activity. Ham Lake Resort offers on-site swimming, fishing, and paddling, along with family-oriented amenities that suit travelers with young kids. Bunker Hills Regional Park, minutes from several of the listed campgrounds, adds swimming ponds, disc golf, and paved trails.
Inside the metro, RV travelers can day-trip to the Minnesota Zoo, Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, the Mall of America, and the Chain of Lakes in Minneapolis. To the east, Big Marine Lake and William O'Brien State Park offer swimming, paddling, and hiking within an hour of Fridley. The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway is a common weekend destination for boating and shoreline recreation.

December - February
28° / 12°F 22 mmDeep cold and snow; most campgrounds closed
The Fridley camping season runs mainly from late April through mid-October. Most private RV parks and Minnesota state park campgrounds close or reduce services once overnight temperatures drop consistently below freezing, and water systems are typically shut off before late fall to prevent freeze damage. Winters bring heavy snow and subzero cold, and only a small number of parks in the region stay open year round.
June through August is peak season. Weekend sites at Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey, Ham Lake Resort, and Town and Country Campground and RV Park fill weeks ahead, especially around Independence Day and the Minnesota State Fair in late August. Biting insects, particularly mosquitoes, are heaviest from June into early August, so screen rooms and repellent are worth packing.
Spring and fall are quieter, with cooler nights, fewer bugs, and better site availability. Fall color across the hardwood forests peaks from late September into mid-October.

How to book campgrounds near Fridley
Private parks in the area, including Ham Lake Resort, Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey, Town and Country Campground and RV Park, and Country Camping RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, and several also list availability on booking marketplaces such as Good Sam and Hipcamp.
Minnesota state park campgrounds are booked through the Minnesota DNR reservation system, which opens bookings 120 days in advance, with new dates released at 8 a.m. Central on the first day of the window. Anoka County and Washington County regional parks use their own online systems. Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake operates under eligibility rules tied to veteran and family use, so travelers should confirm access requirements before reserving.
For summer weekends and holidays, booking eight to twelve weeks ahead is recommended across all systems.
What to expect
Expect a mix of suburban convenience and Minnesota lake country. Sites at Ham Lake Resort and Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey lean toward the resort style, with 30 and 50 amp hookups, pull-through options, laundry, showers, and organized weekend activities. Town and Country Campground and RV Park and Country Camping RV Park run more traditionally, with grass and gravel pads, fire rings, and easier access to interstate highways.
Cell service and LTE coverage are reliable throughout the metro. Grocery stores, propane, dump stations, and RV service shops are within short driving distance of every listed campground.
Summer brings warm, humid days, occasional strong thunderstorms, and heavy mosquito activity near lakes and wetlands. Pack rain gear, a good bug plan, and layers for cool evenings even in July.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Fridley is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when browsing and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) for a small cleaning fee. Once you're booked, Minnesota is a paradise for camping with pups. Wargo Nature Center trails in nearby Lino Lakes, the off-leash dog area at Springbrook Nature Center right in Fridley, and the leashed pet loops at Bunker Hills Regional Park in Coon Rapids are all great spots. Most Minnesota state parks also allow leashed pets on trails and at campsites. Pro tip: pack a copy of your dog's vaccination records since some campgrounds ask to see them at check-in.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/faq.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in Fridley?
Yes, RV delivery in Fridley is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig through Minneapolis traffic. Many hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental directly at your campsite, Anoka County driveway, or a regional park like Rice Creek Chain of Lakes. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water, walk you through every system, and pick it up when you're done. Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $5 per mile from the host's home base. Pro tip: use the Delivery filter on RVezy and message hosts before booking to confirm they'll deliver to your exact campground.

Each Fridley host sets their own mileage policy, with most offering 100 to 150 free miles per night, and some listings include RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is gold for longer Minnesota loops. To put that in perspective from Fridley: Duluth and Lake Superior's North Shore are about 145 miles north, Itasca State Park (Mississippi headwaters) is roughly 215 miles northwest, and the Boundary Waters near Ely sit about 230 miles up Highway 53. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.45 each. Pro tip: map your full route before booking, then filter for unlimited-mileage listings if you're planning a true north-country adventure.
dot.state.mn.us/maps/Where are the best campgrounds near Fridley, MN?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Fridley are all within a 30-minute drive: Bunker Hills Regional Park in Coon Rapids offers wooded sites with electric hookups and showers, Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park in Centerville has drive-in RV sites with full hookups, and Lebanon Hills Regional Park in Eagan adds 2,000 acres of trails and lakes. For a classic RV park, Minneapolis Northwest KOA in Maple Grove sits about 20 minutes west with pull-throughs and a pool. Town and Country Campground in St. Paul is another solid metro option. Pro tip: most regional parks open in May and close mid-October, so book your Fridley RV camping dates early for summer weekends.
anokacountyparks.com/Facilities/Facility/Details/Bunker-Hills-Campground-13When is the best time to take an RV trip from Fridley, MN?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Fridley, with June through August being peak season. Summer highs run 78 to 85°F with warm evenings, perfect for lakeside campfires, while September brings cooler 60s, gorgeous fall colors, and far fewer mosquitoes. May and early June can still be cool (50s to 70s) but campgrounds are quieter and rates drop. Winter RV rentals are limited because most Minnesota campgrounds close from late October to April, though a few hardy hosts offer winterized rigs for ice-fishing trips. Pro tip: target the third weekend of September for peak North Shore foliage if you're chasing autumn colors up Highway 61.
weather.gov/mpx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I'm doing?
You'll be in great shape, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every Fridley host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery) covering how to start the generator, dump tanks, run the awning, hook up at a campground, and use the propane stove. Many include printed quick-start guides, and you can text the host anytime during your trip with questions. Pair that with RVezy's 24/7 support line and you've got a safety net. Pro tip: ask for a travel trailer rental or Class C in the 22 to 28 foot range for your first trip, they're plenty spacious but easy to maneuver on Minnesota's narrower county roads and at Bunker Hills.
dot.state.mn.us/cvo/safety.htmlWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my Minnesota trip?
You're never on your own. Every Fridley RV rental booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-35 heading to Duluth or a dead battery at Itasca State Park is just a phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch a tow, jumpstart, tire change, lockout help, or fuel delivery anywhere in Minnesota. Your host is also a direct lifeline for RV-specific issues like a fussy slide or generator. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number and your host's contact info before leaving Fridley so you have them handy even when cell service drops in the Northwoods.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat are the best road trip destinations from Fridley by RV?
Fridley is an incredible launch pad for an RV road trip. Top routes include: Duluth and the North Shore of Lake Superior (about 145 miles, 2.5 hours up I-35), Itasca State Park to walk across the Mississippi headwaters (215 miles, 3.5 hours northwest), Voyageurs National Park near International Falls (290 miles, 5 hours north), and the Apostle Islands of Wisconsin (215 miles east via Highway 2). For a quick weekend, the St. Croix River valley and Taylors Falls are just 45 minutes northeast. Pro tip: cross-border trips into Wisconsin are welcome on RVezy bookings; trips into Canada may be possible with host approval and added insurance, while travel into Mexico is not permitted.
nps.gov/voya/index.htmWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how do I budget for gas?
Plan smart and fuel costs won't sneak up on you. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes typically get 9 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches hover around 7 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Minnesota gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, often $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon in the Twin Cities area. For a round-trip from Fridley to Duluth (about 290 miles), figure roughly $80 to $110 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: Costco in Coon Rapids and Sam's Club in Fridley off University Avenue usually have the cheapest fill-ups before you head north.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Fridley?
Lock in campsites as early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Minnesota state park campsites can be reserved online up to 120 days in advance through the DNR's reservation system at reservemn.usedirect.com, and popular parks like Interstate, William O'Brien, and Wild River fill within hours of opening. Anoka County regional parks (including Bunker Hills) and Three Rivers Park District campgrounds also book through their own online systems and go fast for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Pro tip: if you missed the booking window, check the DNR site mid-week, cancellations pop up daily, and Minnesota now offers fee-free same-day reservations so you can grab a spot last-minute on your way out of Fridley.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/self_service.htmlWhat's driving an RV around Fridley and the Twin Cities actually like?
Easier than you'd think. Fridley sits just off I-694 and Highway 65, both wide, well-maintained, and very RV-friendly. The roads north toward Anoka, St. Cloud, and the lake country are flat, straight, and lightly trafficked, ideal for first-time motorhome drivers. The main thing to watch is rush hour on I-35W and I-694 between 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM, plus a few lower-clearance bridges around downtown Minneapolis (stick to interstates and check your RV's height). Summer thunderstorms can roll in fast. Pro tip: if Twin Cities traffic makes you nervous, book an RV delivery in Fridley straight to your campground and you'll never have to touch a freeway.
dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Fridley?
Most campgrounds near Fridley are well-equipped for a comfortable RV stay. Bunker Hills, Rice Creek Chain of Lakes, and Lebanon Hills all offer electric hookups (20/30/50 amp), potable water fill stations, dump stations, flush toilets, and hot showers. Minneapolis Northwest KOA adds full hookups, Wi-Fi, a pool, and a camp store. For dumping and water fills on the road, most Minnesota state parks have free dump stations for registered campers, and the Flying J in nearby Lakeville offers public dumps for around $15. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the Twin Cities, some Northwoods campgrounds have hand pumps only, and you'll thank yourself for that hot shower after a day on the trail.
dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/campground_amenities.htmlWhat features and amenities come inside a typical Fridley RV rental?
You'll be surprised how loaded these rigs are. A typical Fridley RV rental includes a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa for extra sleepers, a full kitchen with fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, and a bathroom with toilet and shower. Most Class C and travel trailer rentals also have air conditioning, propane furnace, awning, outdoor speakers, and seatbelted seating for 4 to 7 passengers. Many hosts include a TV, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots or Starlink for an add-on fee, great for working remotely from Lake Mille Lacs. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host if you need specifics like a CPAP-compatible outlet or a generator for off-grid Boundary Waters trips.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look at when booking?
Add-ons can seriously upgrade your Fridley RV trip. Popular ones include linen and kitchen packages ($50 to $100), camp chairs and outdoor table ($25 to $50), bike racks, generators for boondocking, portable propane fire pits (handy when fire bans hit northern Minnesota), and Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Fridley, Coon Rapids, Blaine, or Spring Lake Park, but delivery to campgrounds, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, or your driveway is common too. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night with $0.30 to $0.45 per additional mile. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking rather than asking last-minute, hosts appreciate the prep time and you avoid scrambling on departure day.
dnr.state.mn.us/burningrestrictions/index.htmlHow do payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy rental?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash or a card directly to the host. You pay with a credit or debit card at booking, and your trip total covers the nightly rate, host fees, taxes, and any add-ons you've selected. A refundable security deposit is separate from the booking payment and held on your card before pickup. As long as you return the rig in good shape, fueled, and with tanks emptied per the listing terms, the hold is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, that documentation protects you and speeds up your deposit release.
