Campgrounds and RV parks near Hastings, MN

Hastings sits at the confluence of the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers about 30 minutes southeast of the Twin Cities. The area serves as a practical base for RV travellers exploring Pool 2 of the Mississippi, the Great River Road, and the bluff country running south toward Red Wing. Lock and Dam No. 2, just north of downtown, has a public observation platform where boats pass through the lock chamber. Campground options range from full-hookup private parks to Minnesota and Wisconsin state park campgrounds within an hour's drive. Tresure Island RV Park and Haycreek Valley Campground sit close to the Mississippi on the Minnesota side, while Cannon Falls Campground anchors the Cannon River valley to the southwest. Across the state line, Willow River State Park Campground and Apple River Hide-A-Way pull travellers toward the St. Croix watershed in western Wisconsin. Most sites in the region operate seasonally from spring through fall, with a smaller number of private parks staying open year-round for hardy winter RVers.

Willow River State Park Campground is reserved through the Wisconsin State Park system at wisconsin.goingtocamp.com, which opens sites up to eleven months in advance. A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission pass is required in addition to the camping reservation. Summer weekends and holidays fill quickly, and standard sites are fully reservable rather than walk-up. Minnesota state park sites in the surrounding area book through the Minnesota DNR reservation portal on a similar rolling window. Dakota County parks such as Lake Byllesby release inventory through the county's online system, with no walk-ins accepted during peak season. Private parks including Cannon Falls Campground, Tresure Island RV Park, Haycreek Valley Campground, and Apple River Hide-A-Way take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, booking several months out is safest.
