Campgrounds and RV parks near Lexington, MN

Water is the main draw. Ham Lake, Big Marine Lake, and the St. Croix River corridor support swimming, fishing, kayaking, and boating directly from lakeside campgrounds. Ham Lake Resort offers a swim beach, boat access, and planned weekend activities, while the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake offers a sandy beach, boat launch, and marina. Families staying near Ham Lake are within reach of Bunker Beach Water Park, the National Sports Center in Blaine, and Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in St. Paul. Local wineries and county historical sites add rainy-day options. Hiking, biking, and paddling are available at William O'Brien State Park along the St. Croix, and Bunker Hills Regional Park sits within a short drive for trails and beach access.

The primary camping window runs from mid-April through mid-October. Many private and veteran-run parks in the area follow this pattern: the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake operates its summer camping season from April 15 to October 15, weather permitting, with weekend reservations opening each May 1. Peak demand runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, when weekends at lakefront resorts book up well in advance. Spring brings variable weather, with lingering cold snaps possible into April and thunderstorm season building through May. Summer is warm and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms; June, July, and August account for nearly half the annual precipitation across the Twin Cities. August visitors should plan for mosquitoes and pack repellent. Fall shoulder-season camping in September and early October offers cooler nights and lighter crowds. Winter closes most private RV parks, though Minnesota state park sites that stay open remain reservable year-round.

Private lakefront resorts in the area lean toward RV sites with 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, shower houses, and organized weekend activities. Ham Lake Resort operates 114 RV sites plus cabins and tent sites, with pull-through and back-in options, and reviews consistently note that summer weekends run busy. The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake is larger, with 199 RV sites offering full-hookup options, along with 24 lakeside cabins and 15 tent sites, a sandy beach, fishing dock, marina, and playgrounds. It is a non-profit facility restricted to the military community and their sponsored guests. Expect mosquitoes near lakes in summer, occasional severe thunderstorms with hail or wind, and quiet hours enforced at state parks between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
