Campgrounds near New Brighton, Minnesota
New Brighton sits in the northern Twin Cities suburbs of Ramsey County, roughly ten miles from downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul. RV travelers use it as a base for the metro area, with campgrounds spread across the surrounding suburbs rather than inside the city itself. Most nearby options are private RV parks, supplemented by county and state park campgrounds within an hour's drive.
Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey in Maple Grove is the closest full-service private option to the west, sitting about 17 miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis with pull-through RV sites, camping cabins, and tent areas. Town and Country Campground and RV Park in Savage covers the south metro, and Country Camping RV Park serves travelers on the north side. Ham Lake Resort adds a lake-oriented option north of the city.
Veterans and their families have a distinctive choice at the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake near Marine on St. Croix, a non-profit facility about 30 miles northeast of New Brighton that has served the military community since 1926.
Things to do near New Brighton
Most trips center on Twin Cities attractions. The Mall of America in Bloomington, the Minnesota Zoo, Valleyfair in Shakopee, and the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul are all reachable as day trips from any of the nearby campgrounds. Downtown Minneapolis, US Bank Stadium, and Target Field for Twins games sit within easy driving distance.
Outdoor options are strong in every direction. Big Marine Lake offers swimming, fishing, and boating for guests at the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake. William O'Brien State Park along the St. Croix River is close to the northeast, and the chain of lakes around Ham Lake gives paddlers and anglers a straightforward day out. Regional parks in Ramsey and Anoka counties add paved trails suitable for family cycling.

The camping season in the New Brighton area is short and concentrated. Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey operates from April 15 to October 15, and the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake runs its main summer camping season on a similar mid-April to mid-October window, with a limited number of modern cabins available for winter use. The KOA outdoor pool is only open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, which is a useful marker for peak family season.
Summer, from June through August, is prime time. Warm days, long evenings, and school break drive strong demand at every private park in the metro, and weekends fill early around the Fourth of July, the Minnesota State Fair in late August, and Twins or Vikings game weekends.
Spring and fall are cooler and quieter. Nights can drop below freezing well into May and again by October, so RVers should plan for heated water hoses and expect amenities like pools and playgrounds to be closed at either end of the season. Winter camping is limited: state park campgrounds require reservations year round, but few metro-area private parks stay open through deep freeze.

Booking and reservations
Private campgrounds around New Brighton are booked directly through each park. Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey uses the KOA website and phone reservation line, and Town and Country Campground and RV Park, Ham Lake Resort, and Country Camping RV Park handle bookings through their own websites and offices. Summer weekends, the Minnesota State Fair, and major sporting events fill up weeks in advance, so families should reserve early.
For state park camping in the wider area, all sites at Minnesota state parks and recreation areas require a reservation, booked through the Minnesota DNR reservation system online or by phone at 866-857-2757. The DNR uses a 120-day rolling booking window, with new dates opening at 8:00 a.m. Central Time on the first day they become available, which is one of the shortest windows in the country and makes timing critical for popular weekends.
The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake is open to active duty, reserves, honorably discharged veterans, retirees, their families, and sponsored guests. Reservations for stays of one week or longer are taken year round, and weekend reservations open each May 1.
What to expect on site
Metro-area private parks near New Brighton are suburban in feel rather than wooded and remote. Expect gravel or grass pads, close spacing between sites, and easy highway access. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are common, and pull-through sites at Minneapolis Northwest KOA Journey can accommodate rigs up to about 75 feet.
Family amenities are standard: an outdoor pool in summer at the KOA, playgrounds, laundry, bathhouses, camp stores, and Wi-Fi of variable quality. Pets are welcome at most parks with typical leash rules. Mosquitoes are a real factor from late spring through early fall, so bring repellent.
Cell coverage is strong across the metro on all major carriers. Grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV service are all within a short drive of every campground on this list, which makes the area a practical stop for travelers passing through or basing a longer Twin Cities visit.

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New Brighton, MN. Minnesota does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or campervans you'll find on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID directly through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? After that window, refunds depend on how far out your trip is and the circumstances. You will not see a cancellation policy listed on individual host pages because it is handled at the platform level. If a host cancels on you, RVezy will refund you or help you rebook. If your plans shift, contact RVezy support and they will walk you through your options before your New Brighton RV trip begins.

dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/pets.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in New Brighton?
Yes, RV delivery in New Brighton is one of the most popular options for first-time renters and busy families. Many RVezy hosts in the Twin Cities metro will drive the motorhome straight to your driveway, your campground, or even a nearby trailhead, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system before they leave. That is a game-changer if you are nervous about towing a trailer through I-694 traffic or backing into a tight site at Bunker Hills Regional Park. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see exactly which hosts offer it, then message them with your destination address so they can confirm the delivery fee, which is usually based on round-trip mileage.

Spring (April to early May) can still see frost and even snow, while January and February routinely dip below zero. That said, winter RV rental in Minnesota is absolutely possible with the right rig, and ice-fishing trips on nearby Long Lake or Bald Eagle Lake are unforgettable. Lock in summer dates 2 to 3 months ahead since campgrounds book up fast.

New Brighton sits in the quieter north metro, so you can ease in on roads like Old Highway 8 or County Road I before tackling I-35W. If big-city driving makes you anxious, choose a Class B campervan rental in New Brighton or a smaller Class C, both handle like a large van. Pro tip: do a 15-minute loop around your host's neighborhood right after the walkthrough to build confidence before you load up the family.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every RV rental in New Brighton, MN booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, lockouts, battery jumps, towing, and fuel delivery. One call gets a technician dispatched, whether you are parked at Long Lake Regional Park or 200 miles away on the North Shore. Your host is also a direct resource: most owners answer texts within minutes and can troubleshoot quirks of their specific RV. And RVezy customer support is reachable around the clock for anything bigger. Pro tip: snap a photo of the VIN, license plate, and propane tank serial number at pickup so you have them handy if you ever need to call in.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my New Brighton RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcomed on most New Brighton RV rentals, and many travelers point their rig toward Wisconsin's Apostle Islands (about 240 miles east), the Black Hills of South Dakota, or the Iowa Great Lakes. Canada is sometimes allowed too, since the Pigeon River border crossing is just past Grand Marais, but every host has their own rules and insurance coverage may differ across the border, so message them before booking if a cross-border run is on your wish list. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. Once your host approves your route, you are free to roam, just keep your booking confirmation and ID handy at any border crossing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel won't blow up your budget. Class B campervans in New Brighton average 18 to 22 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 mpg, and large Class A coaches sit around 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but will drop your tow vehicle to roughly 10 to 14 mpg. Regular unleaded in the Twin Cities typically runs $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon, and most RVs run on regular, not diesel (confirm with your host). For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, budget around $90 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: Costco in Coon Rapids and the Sam's Club in Maplewood often have the cheapest gas within 15 minutes of New Brighton.

Private RV parks like Ham Lake Resort are a little more flexible but still smart to lock in 4 to 6 weeks out. dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/reservations.htmlWhat are driving conditions like in and around New Brighton?

The town sits at the intersection of I-35W and I-694, with wide lanes and clearly marked exits, and most surface streets are flat and well-maintained. Summer driving is easy, but watch for sudden thunderstorms and the occasional construction zone (MnDOT typically has projects running on I-694 and Highway 96 from May through October). Winter brings snow, ice, and the rare blizzard from late November through March, so plan trips around forecasts and keep an eye on 511mn.org for road conditions. Avoid downtown Minneapolis low-clearance routes like the Lowry Hill Tunnel (13 feet) if your rig is tall. Pro tip: most New Brighton hosts know the friendliest routes and will share them at pickup.

Three Rivers and Anoka County campgrounds like Bunker Hills include similar amenities plus playgrounds and beaches. For full hookups (water, sewer, electric at the site) head to private parks like Ham Lake Resort or Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake. Need to dump or fill water mid-trip? The Flying J in Lakeville and the Pilot in Hudson, WI both have public dump stations. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot fresh water hose, MN campsite spigots can be a stretch from your RV.

Air conditioning, furnace, and a TV are standard on most listings, and many hosts include a generator or solar setup for off-grid stays. Wi-fi varies, so ask the host or plan to use your phone hotspot. Campervan rental in New Brighton tends to be more minimal but cleverly designed, ideal for couples. Seatbelted seats determine how many can legally travel, not just sleep. Filter listings by Sleeps count to match your group exactly.

Mileage policies vary, so check whether the listing offers unlimited miles or a per-night allowance plus an overage rate (usually $0.30 to $0.45 per mile). Pro tip: bundle add-ons when you book, asking the host to combine them often unlocks a small discount.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Brighton%2C%20MinnesotaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in New Brighton, MN, RVezy charges your credit or debit card through the platform, no cash or off-platform transfers needed, which protects both you and the host. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and is released after drop-off once the host confirms no damage or extra cleaning is needed. To avoid any issues, take time-stamped photos and a quick walk-around video at pickup and again at drop-off, then return the RV with a clean interior, the fuel level it started at, and an empty black tank. That is the easiest way to get your full deposit back fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in New Brighton in the winter?
Yes, and a Minnesota winter RV trip is a genuinely magical experience. Several RVezy hosts in New Brighton list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, dual-pane windows, and high-output furnaces designed for sub-zero nights. Popular winter uses include ice-fishing setups on Bald Eagle Lake or Lake Mille Lacs (about 90 miles north), snowmobiling trips up to Brainerd, and shoulder-season basecamps for snowshoeing at Wild River State Park. When booking, message the host to confirm the RV is winter-rated, and ask whether you'll be on full hookups (with heated water lines) or running on tanks with antifreeze. Pro tip: New Brighton averages 50-plus inches of snow per season, so factor in winter tires on your tow vehicle if you're pulling a trailer.
