Campgrounds and RV parks near Newport, MN

Newport sits in Washington County on the east bank of the Mississippi River, immediately southeast of St. Paul. The location puts RV renters within a short drive of both Minnesota state parks and recreation areas and a cluster of Wisconsin state parks across the St. Croix River, giving trip planners access to two separate reservation systems and a wide range of site types. Close-in options include Golden Acres RV Park and the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake, both in the north metro. For families willing to drive under an hour, Willow River State Park Campground near Hudson, Wisconsin, and Cannon Falls Campground south of the Twin Cities add larger, amenity-heavy grounds. Apple River Hide-A-Way extends the range east into western Wisconsin river country. Expect a mix of full-hookup private parks, state park campgrounds with electric sites, and rustic lakeside options. Availability tightens sharply from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends.

Minnesota state parks and recreation areas use the ReserveMN system, run by the state DNR through UseDirect. Every campsite requires a reservation year-round, and the booking window opens 120 days before arrival at 8 a.m. Central. Same-day reservations are available with no reservation fee. All vehicles entering a Minnesota state park also need a state park vehicle permit, daily or annual. Wisconsin state parks, including Willow River State Park Campground, use the Wisconsin State Park reservation system and open bookings 11 months in advance. A two-night minimum applies from May 15 through October, and holiday weekends require three nights. Private parks such as Golden Acres RV Park, Cannon Falls Campground, and Apple River Hide-A-Way take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone.
