Campgrounds and RV parks near Stillwater, MN

Stillwater sits on the west bank of the St. Croix River in Washington County, roughly a half-hour east of the Twin Cities. The area is a base for RV travel because it puts campers within a short drive of two river systems: the St. Croix, which forms the Minnesota-Wisconsin border, and the Apple River in Somerset, Wisconsin, a popular summer tubing corridor. Campground options within about a 20-mile radius cover most trip styles. Golden Acres RV Park sits north of downtown Stillwater and offers RV sites with hookups and seasonal camping. Willow River State Park in Wisconsin covers 2,800 acres of rolling countryside with family and group campgrounds, hiking trails, and a nature center. Apple River Hide-A-Way and Float-Rite Park are geared toward tubers and lively summer camping in Somerset. The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake is open year-round with RV sites, tent sites, cabins, a beachfront, trails, and a marina. Access is restricted to military veterans, active-duty and reserve service members, veteran families, and their sponsored guests.

Minnesota state parks use a central reservation system. Reservations at William O'Brien State Park, the closest state park to Stillwater, can be made online 24/7 or by phone from April through September, and bookings are available up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota DNR reservation system. A state park vehicle permit is required in addition to the site fee. Wisconsin state parks use a separate system. Sites at Willow River are reserved via the Wisconsin State Park reservation site, and reservations open 11 months in advance. A Wisconsin vehicle admission sticker is required. Private campgrounds (Golden Acres RV Park, Apple River Hide-A-Way, Float-Rite Park) take reservations directly through their own websites. The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake is limited to eligible military and veteran guests plus their sponsored visitors, and popular weekends carry a long waitlist.
