Campgrounds near West Saint Paul
West Saint Paul sits immediately south of downtown Saint Paul in Dakota County, giving RV travelers quick highway access to campgrounds spread across the southern and eastern Twin Cities metro. Most nearby RV parks are private facilities aimed at families using the metro as a base for Mall of America, professional sports, the Minnesota Zoo, and river valley parks. State-run camping is available a short drive out through the Minnesota DNR system, which manages 66 state parks and 9 recreation areas with campgrounds across the state.
Closest to West Saint Paul is Town and Country Campground and RV Park in the Minneapolis suburb of Savage, a family-oriented park with more than 80 sites, full hookups, tent sites, a heated saltwater pool, and free Wi-Fi. Ham Lake Resort and Golden Acres RV Park sit north and east of the city respectively, while Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake serves as the RV base for Mystic Lake Casino.
Military families have a distinct option at the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake, a non-profit facility in Marine on St. Croix that has served veterans and their families since 1926.
Things to do near West Saint Paul
Metro attractions are the main draw. Town and Country Campground and RV Park puts RVers within a short drive of Mall of America, Valley Fair, Canterbury Park, Mystic Lake Casino, the Minnesota Zoo, and the airport, making it a practical base for family day trips without long drives.
Water and lake recreation open up east of the city. At the Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake, guests can use a sandy beach for swimming, fish and boat from an on-site launch and marina, and rent boats, kayaks, and pontoons. Golden Acres RV Park is near Stillwater and the St. Croix River corridor for paddling, bluff hikes, and river-town day trips.
For a mix of camping and entertainment, Dakotah Meadows RV Park is adjacent to Mystic Lake Casino, with an on-site shuttle for guests who prefer not to walk.

Most private RV parks in the metro run a spring-to-fall season. The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake lists a summer camping window of April 15 to October 15, weather permitting, with weekend reservations opening each May 1 and week-long stays available year round. A handful of metro parks, including Town and Country Campground and RV Park, offer winter camping for long-term stays.
Summer is peak season. School-holiday weekends, the Minnesota State Fair in late August, and Twins and Vikings home games all pull demand toward metro parks, so weekends fill early. Shoulder months bring cooler nights and lighter crowds; spring highs climb from around 42°F in March to 57°F in April and 69°F in May.
Winters are harsh. The Twin Cities has the coldest average temperature of any major metropolitan area in the United States, with very cold winters, warm and humid summers, and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall in spring, summer, and autumn. Plan for freeze risk, snow, and short daylight from December through February.

How to book campgrounds near West Saint Paul
For state parks and recreation areas in the region, use the Minnesota DNR reservation system at mndnr.gov/reservations or by phone. Online reservations can be made up to 120 days in advance, 24 hours a day, except for the first day a reservation becomes available; on that first day, reservations cannot be made online before 8 a.m. Central Time. A non-refundable reservation fee applies to each advance booking, and a Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required for every vehicle entering a park.
Private parks book directly. Town and Country Campground and RV Park, Ham Lake Resort, Golden Acres RV Park, and Dakotah Meadows RV Park all take reservations by phone or through their websites; summer weekends and event dates should be booked well ahead. The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake books directly, with weekend reservations opening May 1 and week-long stays taken year round.
What to expect on site
Expect compact metro RV parks with full hookups, paved or gravel pads, and family amenities rather than sprawling wilderness sites. Town and Country Campground and RV Park offers full hookup sites with capacity for big rigs, 20/30/50 amp service, cable TV, a heated saltwater pool, laundry, a game room, and a dump station, with quiet hours in effect overnight. Site spacing at metro parks tends to be tight.
Dakotah Meadows RV Park offers paved pull-through and back-in sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, on-site laundry, and a shuttle to the casino. The Disabled Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake is lakefront and rustic in feel, with 199 RV sites offering 30 and 50-amp service, water, sewer, and internet access, plus 24 lakeside cabins and 15 tent sites.

Good news: a regular Class D Minnesota driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or international license) is all you need for nearly every RV on RVezy. Minnesota exempts personal-use recreational vehicles from any commercial driver's license (CDL) requirement, which covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, and travel trailer you'll find for rent in West Saint Paul. You'll need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and identification is verified right through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to hit the road.

Yes, and this is one of the best parts of booking through RVezy. Every RV rental in West Saint Paul booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you're covered for most damages to the vehicle and help is one phone call away if a tire blows on I-494 or the battery dies at Lebanon Hills. Within a single tank you can reach Duluth and Lake Superior (about 155 miles north on I-35), the St. Croix River Valley town of Stillwater (just 25 miles east), the Mississippi River bluffs at Red Wing (about 50 miles southeast), or push on to Voyageurs National Park (around 290 miles north). Want to cross into Wisconsin? You're roughly 230 miles from the Apostle Islands and about 350 miles from Door County. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy (some offer unlimited mileage, others include 100-150 free miles per night with a small per-mile fee after that), so check the listing details and message your host if you're planning a big loop.

co.dakota.mn.us/parks/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to visit West Saint Paul in an RV?
The sweet spot for a West Saint Paul RV trip runs from late May through early October. June, July, and August deliver warm days with average highs in the upper 70s to low 80s F, ideal for paddling on the Mississippi or grilling at your campsite. September brings cooler 70F afternoons, fewer mosquitoes, and the start of stunning fall color along the St. Croix Valley. Winter RV rentals are possible (some Twin Cities hosts offer four-season rigs with heated tanks), but January highs average in the low 20s F so it's an adventure for the well-prepared. Pro tip: book your RV in West Saint Paul for the last week of September to catch peak fall foliage at Afton State Park.
weather.gov/mpx/climateI've never rented an RV before. Will I know what I'm doing?
Yes, and you'll be surprised how quickly it clicks, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through how to operate the generator, dump the tanks, set the leveling jacks, run the propane stove, and connect to shore power. They'll share their phone number too, so if you blank on which switch turns on the water pump at 9pm in Lebanon Hills, you can text and get an answer. The Twin Cities have flat, well-maintained roads, making the suburbs around West Saint Paul ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel before heading out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003356533-For-rentersWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking out of West Saint Paul includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so whether you have a flat tire on Highway 52, a dead battery at Afton State Park, or need a tow back to the metro, help is one phone call away. Your host is also a built-in resource for quirks specific to their RV (most respond within minutes via the in-app chat), and RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave the driveway so it's ready when you need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take an RV rental from West Saint Paul into Canada or another state?
Cross-border and cross-state trips are very doable from West Saint Paul. Wisconsin is minutes east across the St. Croix, and many hosts allow trips to South Dakota's Badlands, the North Shore of Lake Superior, or down to Iowa. Canada is also allowed by many hosts as long as you confirm with them before booking and bring a valid passport for the International Falls or Grand Portage border crossings. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection and insurance coverage do not extend there. Always message your host through the listing page to confirm your route, especially if it crosses an international border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost on my West Saint Paul RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable in your RV budget, but it's manageable with planning. Minnesota gas prices typically run close to the national average. Class B campervans deliver 18-22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8-12 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer usually gets 10-14 mpg. A weekend trip from West Saint Paul to Duluth and back (about 310 miles round trip) in a Class C would run roughly $90-$120 in fuel at recent prices. Pro tip: fill up at Costco in Eagan or Burnsville before heading out, the savings add up on a big tank.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near West Saint Paul?
Book your campsite early, especially for Minnesota state parks. The Minnesota DNR reservation system opens 120 days before your arrival date, and prime summer weekends at popular spots like Afton, William O'Brien, and Wild River State Park often book within minutes of going live. Dakota County and regional parks like Lebanon Hills also open about 120 days out. For private parks such as Saint Croix Bluffs or Town and Country in Savage, two to four weeks ahead is usually enough outside of holiday weekends. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for the 120-day mark, log in five minutes early, and have your dates and site preferences ready to click.
dnr.state.mn.us/reservations/index.htmlWhat are the driving conditions like around West Saint Paul?
Driving an RV around West Saint Paul is genuinely straightforward. The Twin Cities metro is laid out on flat to gently rolling terrain with wide, well-maintained roads, and the main routes you'll use (I-494, I-35E, and Highway 52) all easily handle big rigs. Avoid downtown Saint Paul's older streets like West 7th and the tight ramps near Kellogg Boulevard, and watch overhead clearances on parkway routes. Winter brings snow and ice from November through March, so most renters stick to May through October. If you're nervous about city driving, book a host with RV delivery West Saint Paul service and skip the urban portion entirely.

Lake Elmo Park Reserve has electric and water at sites with a central dump station. State parks like Afton and William O'Brien typically provide electric hookups, drinking water spigots throughout the loop, and modern bathhouses, but no individual sewer connections. Pro tip: most regional parks include the dump station free for registered campers.

Expect a queen or king bed, a kitchen with a fridge, propane stove, microwave, and sink, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (AC plus furnace, important for chilly Minnesota nights), a dinette that converts to extra sleeping space, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many campervan rental West Saint Paul options also include solar panels, indoor and outdoor showers, and built-in inverters. Hosts often add TVs, generators, and outdoor speakers. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=West%20Saint%20Paul%2C%20MinnesotaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy when you book (never directly to the host) using a credit or debit card, with the total typically split into an amount due at booking and the balance due before pickup. A separate security deposit is held by RVezy (not charged) before your trip, and the amount depends on the RV. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition, with the agreed fuel level and clean tanks, the hold is released back to your card after your trip ends. Pro tip: take a quick walk-around video at pickup and dropoff so there's a clear record, it makes everything smoother.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in the winter from West Saint Paul?
Yes, winter RV rentals are possible in West Saint Paul, you just want to choose the right rig. Look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, and a reliable propane furnace, since January highs average in the low 20s F and overnight lows often dip below zero. Town and Country Campground in Savage and a handful of private parks stay open year-round with shore power (water lines are typically winterized to prevent freezing). Hosts can advise on antifreeze in the tanks, skirting, and using shore power instead of the fresh water tank. Pro tip: pair a winter RV rental West Saint Paul booking with an ice-fishing weekend on Lake Minnetonka for a true Minnesota adventure.
