Campgrounds near Genoa, Nevada
Genoa sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada in Carson Valley, roughly 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe's southeast shore and 15 minutes from Carson City. RV travelers use it as a staging point for Tahoe, the Carson River, and Highway 395 travel between Reno and the Eastern Sierra.
Most commercial RV parks cluster on the flat valley floor around Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville, where full hookups, pull-throughs, and larger rig accommodations are standard. Silver City RV Park, Silver City RV Resort, Carson Valley RV Resort and Casino, and Comstock Country RV Resort all sit within a short drive of Genoa and typically operate year-round at valley elevations.
For a lakefront alternative at higher elevation, Zephyr Cove Resort operates an RV park and campground on Lake Tahoe's southeast shore, about 30 minutes up Highway 50. Winter access can require chains or four-wheel drive during storm cycles, so many RV travelers base in the valley and day-trip to the lake.
Things to do around Genoa
Historic downtown Genoa anchors most visits, with Mormon Station State Historic Park, the Genoa Bar (Nevada's oldest thirst parlor), and short walking loops through the original settlement. Nearby trails climb into the Carson Range on the Tahoe Rim Trail system, and Genoa Peak offers panoramic views over the valley and Lake Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe is the main draw for water activities. From Zephyr Cove Resort, visitors can board M.S. Dixie II paddlewheel cruises, rent kayaks and paddleboards, or ride horseback through the pines. Sand Harbor, Cave Rock, and Nevada Beach are all within a short drive.
Carson City adds museums, casinos, and grocery resupply, while the East Carson River draws anglers and floaters in spring and early summer.

December - February
48° / 21°F 34 mmCold, snowy in the Sierra; valley parks stay open with plowed access
Summers are hot and very dry in the valley, with regular afternoon highs above 85°F and cool nights. This is the busiest stretch for Tahoe-area campgrounds, and lakeside sites at Zephyr Cove Resort book out weeks or months in advance. Valley RV parks stay easier to secure but still see steady traffic from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Fall brings the best balance for RV travel. September and October offer warm days, cold nights, thinning crowds, and yellow aspen in the Sierra canyons. Wildfire smoke can still be a factor into early fall, so check air quality before extended stays.
Winters are cold and bring regular snowfall at valley elevations, with heavier snow at Tahoe. Silver City RV Park, Carson Valley RV Resort and Casino, and Comstock Country RV Resort typically stay open with plowed access and full hookups. Spring is mild but can be wet and windy, with snowmelt swelling the Carson River from April through June.

How to book near Genoa
Private RV parks in Carson Valley take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Silver City RV Park, Silver City RV Resort, Carson Valley RV Resort and Casino, and Comstock Country RV Resort all operate on this model, and most accept bookings well in advance. Weekends near holidays fill first, especially for pull-through and 50-amp sites.
Zephyr Cove Resort accepts reservations through its own booking system, with summer weekends often filling months ahead. Specific sites generally cannot be pre-selected at booking, though requests can be added to the reservation notes. Bring a backup plan for peak weekends: valley parks around Carson City and Minden are the fallback when Tahoe fills.
What to expect on the ground
Valley RV parks near Genoa are paved or gravel with level sites, full hookups, laundry, and pet areas. Rigs up to 40 feet are common, and larger Class A coaches are accommodated at Carson Valley RV Resort and Casino and Comstock Country RV Resort. Cell service is generally strong throughout Carson Valley.
At Zephyr Cove Resort, sites sit under pines close together, showers and laundry are on-site, and food storage rules apply due to active black bear pressure. Campfires are not permitted on the beach, and generator hours are enforced.
Elevation matters: Genoa sits around 4,800 feet, and Zephyr Cove sits above 6,200 feet. Nights are cool even in July, propane use is heavier in shoulder seasons, and appliances may run less efficiently at Tahoe elevations.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Genoa, NV
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Genoa, NV?
RV rental in Genoa, NV is surprisingly affordable for a Lake Tahoe gateway town. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275, and larger Class A coaches go from $250 to $400. The sweet spot for value is a campervan rental Genoa style (Class B), often $130 to $200 per night with great gas mileage for cruising Kingsbury Grade or US 395. To find a cheap RV rental in Genoa, book midweek, target shoulder seasons like late April or October, and filter for Instant Book listings. Pro tip: bundle a delivery quote into your nightly comparison, since saving on a tow vehicle often beats picking the absolute lowest sticker price.
travelnevada.com/cities/genoa/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Genoa, Nevada?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Genoa, Nevada for virtually every rig on RVezy. Nevada only requires a Non-Commercial Class B license for personal motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,001 pounds, and the overwhelming majority of rentals (campervans, travel trailers, Class C motorhomes, and most Class A coaches) fall well under that threshold. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's nothing to print or mail. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're ready to roll into Carson Valley.
dmv.nv.gov/nvdl.htmWhat protection is included with a Genoa RV rental?
Every motorhome rental in Genoa booked on RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you pull out of the driveway. You choose your preferred protection tier at checkout (not the host), and each plan helps cover accidental damage to the RV during your trip. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial peace of mind for first time renters tackling the twisting Kingsbury Grade or wind-prone stretches of US 395. Pro tip: pick your protection tier early in the booking flow so you can budget confidently before adding extras like generator hours or camp chairs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Genoa trip plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Genoa is lower risk than most people expect. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy across the platform, and every booking includes a short grace period right after you book during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. Pro tip: book early to lock in the rig you want, then use the grace period to finalize campground reservations at places like Washoe Lake State Park before you fully commit.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I find a pet-friendly RV rental in Genoa, NV?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Genoa options are plentiful, since many Carson Valley hosts are dog owners themselves. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see only listings that welcome your four-legged crew, and message the host to confirm any size or breed details. Once on the road, Genoa is a dream for dogs: the River Fork Ranch Preserve has leashed trails through 800 acres of wetlands, and Mormon Station State Historic Park's grassy lawn is perfect for a picnic with the pup. Washoe Lake State Park also allows leashed pets at campsites. Pro tip: pack a portable shade structure, since Carson Valley summer afternoons can hit the low 90s with thin high-desert air.
parks.nv.gov/parks/washoe-lakeCan the RV be delivered to my campground or vacation rental in Genoa?
Yes, RV delivery in Genoa is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. Many hosts in the Carson Valley and Minden area will drive the RV directly to your campsite at Washoe Lake State Park, your spot at one of the Carson Valley resorts, or a private driveway in Genoa proper, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. It is especially popular for first time renting an RV travelers who would rather skip backing a 30-footer down Jacks Valley Road. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your destination address to get an exact quote and setup time.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Genoa%2C%20NevadaHow far can I drive on a Genoa RV trip, and which listings have unlimited mileage?
You've got serious range from Genoa, and plenty of listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Genoa sits at the foot of the Sierra, so popular day trips and overnighters are well within easy reach: South Lake Tahoe is about 20 miles (35 minutes over Kingsbury Grade), Reno is 45 miles north on US 395, Virginia City is roughly 30 miles, Yosemite's Tioga Pass entrance is about 130 miles, and the Mono Lake/June Lake area is around 110 miles south on US 395. Hosts who don't offer unlimited miles usually include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with overage fees around 35 to 50 cents per mile. Pro tip: filter by 'Unlimited Mileage' if you're planning a big eastern Sierra loop.
nevadadot.com/travel-infoWhere should I camp during my Genoa RV trip?
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to best campgrounds near Genoa. Washoe Lake State Park (about 20 minutes north) offers RV-friendly sites with a dump station, showers, and front-row Sierra views. Carson Valley RV Resort in Minden is a quick 10-minute drive from Genoa with full hookups, a pool, and a pet area. Up at the lake, Zephyr Cove RV Park and Nevada Beach Campground (USFS) put you right on Tahoe's shore. Pro tip: book Tahoe-area sites on Recreation.gov six months out, since summer weekends sell out fast.
parks.nv.gov/parks/washoe-lake-state-park/When is the best time of year for RV camping in Genoa?
The sweet spot for RV camping Genoa is mid-May through early October, when daytime highs climb from the mid-60s into the low 80s and nights cool to the 40s and 50s, perfect for campfires. July is the warmest month, averaging around 80 degrees with very low humidity and just a few hundredths of an inch of rain. Fall (late September to mid-October) is local-favorite season: aspens turn gold up Kingsbury Grade and the annual Genoa Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire takes over town the last full weekend of September. Winter is genuinely scenic but expect snow, ice on the sloped streets, and chain controls heading toward Tahoe.
weather.gov/rev/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Genoa?
You're going to be fine, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you an in-person orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, dump procedure, and dashboard quirks before you drive an inch. Genoa itself is laid-back: Foothill Road and Jacks Valley Road are wide, lightly trafficked, and gorgeous. For your first day, stick to flat US 395 between Carson City and Minden to get the feel of the rig before tackling Kingsbury Grade up to Tahoe. Pro tip: ask your host for their phone number and shoot them a quick text if anything feels off; most are happy to coach you through it.
nevadadot.com/travel-info/seasonal-drivingWhat happens if something breaks down during my Genoa RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on US 395, a dead battery at Washoe Lake, or an awning issue at Zephyr Cove is just one phone call away from help. Your first stop is usually the host (many Carson Valley hosts live within 20 minutes and can swing by), but the RVezy support team and roadside dispatch are available around the clock if you need a tow, jump, or tire change. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Genoa RV rental on a road trip into California or other states?
Yes, interstate travel is generally welcome, and an RV road trip from Genoa into California is one of the most popular itineraries on the platform. Tahoe (about 20 miles), Yosemite (about 130 miles to the Tioga Pass entrance), Mammoth Lakes (about 160 miles), and Death Valley (around 320 miles) are all classic routes. Confirm any travel-zone preferences with your host via the message thread before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stop at the border. Pro tip: US 395 south of Genoa is one of the most scenic drives in the West, though Tioga Pass into Yosemite typically closes from November through late spring.
nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/tiogapass.htmWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for in Nevada?
Plan your fuel budget around realistic numbers: campervans get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A coaches run 6 to 9 MPG. Nevada gas prices typically run above the national average, hovering near $5 per gallon in 2026, though Carson City and Minden stations are usually cheaper than South Lake Tahoe or anywhere in California, so fill up before crossing Kingsbury Grade. Diesel pumps are easy to find at the Pilot in Carson City and the Maverik in Gardnerville. Pro tip: a week-long Tahoe loop in a Class C usually burns $250 to $400 in fuel; budget extra if you're heading south on US 395 toward Mammoth.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=NVHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Genoa?
For summer weekends, book as early as possible. Washoe Lake State Park and other Nevada State Parks open campsite reservations on a rolling 11-month window through ReserveNevada.com, with new inventory dropping at 8 a.m. Pacific Time each day. Lake Tahoe area campgrounds (Zephyr Cove, Nevada Beach, Fallen Leaf) use Recreation.gov and open six months in advance, often selling out within minutes for July and August. For shoulder-season trips in May or October, two to four weeks ahead is usually plenty. Pro tip: if you strike out at Washoe Lake, several Loop B sites stay first-come, first-served, so roll in by Thursday afternoon to claim one.
parks.nv.gov/about/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Genoa, NV?
Driving around Genoa is mostly easy and incredibly scenic, with two things to plan for: elevation and wind. Genoa sits at about 4,800 feet at the base of the Sierra, so Kingsbury Grade (SR 207) climbs roughly 2,500 feet over 8 miles to reach South Lake Tahoe, with switchbacks that reward a slow, low-gear descent. Afternoon winds whip through Carson Valley most days, so plan to drive earlier in the day when crosswinds are gentler. In winter, chain controls are common on SR 207 and US 50 toward Tahoe. Pro tip: skip Kingsbury Grade with a fifth wheel and take US 50 from Carson City instead, it's longer but far gentler on big rigs.
nvroads.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Genoa?
Most campgrounds near Genoa offer the essentials and then some. Washoe Lake State Park's Loop A has water and electric hookups at all 24 sites plus an on-site dump station, while Carson Valley RV Resort in Minden offers full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, and a pool. Zephyr Cove RV Park at Lake Tahoe has full hookups, showers, laundry, and a general store. For dumping and freshwater between trips, the dump station at the Carson City Maverik (US 395) is a reliable, low-cost stop. Pro tip: at higher Tahoe-area campgrounds, hookups can be limited to water only, so top off your batteries and propane before heading up Kingsbury Grade.
parks.nv.gov/parks/washoe-lakeWhat's typically included inside a Genoa RV rental?
Expect a fully equipped home on wheels. Most Genoa RV rentals come with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunk options (Class C motorhomes commonly sleep 6 to 8), a kitchen with a fridge, three-burner stove, microwave, and sink, plus a wet bath or full bathroom with shower. Air conditioning, propane furnace, and 12V/110V outlets are standard, and many include a generator (great for boondocking near Topaz Lake), TV, and onboard fresh water tank. Wi-Fi varies, so plan to use a hotspot in remote spots like the Pine Nut Mountains. Pro tip: message the host to confirm seatbelt count if you're traveling with kids, since this dictates how many passengers can legally ride while driving.
nhtsa.gov/equipment/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Genoa rental?
Hosts in Genoa offer a smart mix of add-ons that make trip planning easier. Common extras include linens and kitchen kits ($30 to $75 flat), generator hours ($3 to $5 per hour beyond included), portable propane fire pits (handy during Sierra fire restrictions), bike racks, kayaks, and Starlink Wi-Fi. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Genoa, Minden, Gardnerville, or Carson City, with most hosts allowing pickup between 1 and 4 p.m. and drop-off by 11 a.m. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night with overage at 35 to 50 cents per mile. Pro tip: ask about a 'prep and dump' add-on, around $75 to $150, so you don't have to dump tanks before returning.
travelnevada.com/cities/genoa/How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy in Genoa?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, so you never hand cash to a host. You will pay a portion at booking and the remainder before your trip starts, all via credit card on the secure platform. Hosts also set a refundable security deposit (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) that is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, then released after drop-off assuming no damage. To avoid any issues, do a thorough walkaround photo or video with your host at pickup and again at return. Pro tip: keep all fuel and dump-station receipts so you can quickly resolve any post-trip charge questions through RVezy support.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Genoa during winter for a ski trip?
Yes, a winter RV rental in Genoa is a fantastic basecamp for Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Sierra-at-Tahoe. Genoa sits at about 4,800 feet and gets snow and ice but stays accessible year-round via US 395. Look for listings advertised as four-season or winterized, which typically means heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, an upgraded furnace, and shore-power capability so you can plug in at full-hookup parks like Carson Valley RV Resort. Many hosts include snow chains; confirm in the message thread. Pro tip: park in the valley and drive a tow car up Kingsbury Grade to Heavenly, since most RVs are not fun on icy switchbacks, and you will come back to a warm rig with a hot shower waiting.
