Travelers should pack layers and bring a furnace-capable rig if traveling outside July and August. Humidity is low year-round, which keeps heat tolerable but makes hydration and sun protection important, especially at Tahoe altitudes above 6,000 feet. Wind can pick up in the afternoons across the open valley, particularly around Washoe Lake. Cell service is generally strong along the U.S. 395 corridor and weakens in the canyons and on the back side of the Sierra. Bear activity is realistic at Tahoe-area campgrounds, so food and trash should be stored in provided lockers. Most commercial RV parks near Indian Hills offer full hookups and paved pads, while Tahoe-area public campgrounds tend to be dry or partial-hookup with stricter generator hours.
