Campgrounds near Alloway
Alloway sits in rural Salem County in southwestern New Jersey, roughly an hour south of Philadelphia and about 45 minutes from the Jersey Shore. The township takes its name from a local Native American chief, and the adjacent Alloway Creek carries the same namesake. Alloway Lake is a local favorite for picnicking, boating, and catch-and-release fishing.
RV travelers have a mix of public and private options within a short drive. Parvin State Park offers 56 tent and trailer campsites along the south shore of Parvin Lake and is open April 1 through November 30, while Adventure Bound Tall Pines is a family camping resort in the New Jersey Pine Barrens near Elmer with over 300 campsites, six types of cabin and RV rentals, and a lineup of water attractions. Four Seasons Campgrounds and Old Cedar Campground provide additional private options in the region.
For travelers heading into the city, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday sits about 20 minutes from Camden and downtown Philadelphia and is the only KOA in New Jersey, making it a common basecamp for combining outdoor time with urban sightseeing.
Things to do near Alloway
Outdoor activity centers on Parvin State Park, where about 15 miles of multi-use trails are open for walking, jogging, or biking, along with two lakes, Parvin Lake and Thundergust Lake, and Muddy Run stream for canoeing and kayaking. Fishing is a draw across all three waters, with bass, pickerel, catfish, yellow perch, and sunfish on offer.
On-site amenities at Adventure Bound Tall Pines add a resort feel for families. Beyond the water features, the campground runs the Adventure Bound Express Train, a jump pad, GaGa ball, and playgrounds, and themed weekends include a four-weekend Halloween celebration with haunted trails, trick-or-treating, and costume contests.
Off-site, day trips include Alloway Lake, Cowtown Rodeo in nearby Pilesgrove, Salem County historic sites, and the beaches of the Jersey Shore, roughly 45 minutes east.

The main New Jersey state park camping season runs spring through late fall. Parvin State Park campsites are open April 1 through November 30, and Adventure Bound Tall Pines operates a spring-through-fall season with themed weekends throughout. Private parks like Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday tend to run longer seasons and stay open into the winter months.
Summer is the busiest window. Parvin's two lakes draw large crowds during the warm months, from swimmers and sunbathers to boaters and anglers, and July and August bring peak weekend demand across the region. Book several weeks out for holiday weekends, and expect reservation pressure on cabins and full-hookup sites.
Spring and fall bring milder weather and thinner crowds. In spring, Parvin bursts into color with blossoming dogwood, mountain laurel, holly, magnolia, wild azalea, and more than 200 species of flowering plants. Fall foliage and Halloween-themed campground weekends extend the shoulder season. Winter camping is limited to a handful of private parks; state park campsites are closed.
How to book near Alloway
State-park sites are managed through New Jersey's central reservation system. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov, and sites at Parvin State Park can be reserved up to 11 months in advance. Cabins fill first, so book those as soon as the window opens.
Private campgrounds each use their own booking channel. Adventure Bound Tall Pines takes reservations through its own site at book.abcamping.com and through Campspot, while Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday books through the KOA website. Four Seasons Campgrounds and Old Cedar Campground accept direct reservations by phone or through their own websites.
For RV travelers, confirm site length, hookup type, and big-rig access when booking. Parvin's RV sites do not have water, electric, or sewer hookups, though potable water is available at multiple points and a sanitary station sits near the entrance.
What to expect on arrival
Terrain around Alloway is flat, sandy, and wooded, typical of the Pine Barrens edge. The level ground makes hiking accessible for all skill levels, and trails at Parvin are well-marked. Cell service is generally reliable, and small stores in Alloway, Elmer, and Woodstown cover basic supply runs.
Campground styles vary widely. Parvin State Park offers a rustic, lake-adjacent experience with shared bathhouses and no in-site hookups, while Adventure Bound Tall Pines and the Clarksboro KOA lean toward full-service resort camping with pools, playgrounds, and planned activities. At Parvin, restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, and a playground are within walking distance of each site.
Expect summer humidity, mosquitoes near the lakes and wetlands, and occasional afternoon thunderstorms. Pack layers for shoulder-season nights, which can turn cool quickly after sunset.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Alloway, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Alloway, NJ?
RV rental in Alloway is one of the more affordable ways to explore South Jersey, with most rentals ranging from about $95 a night for a compact travel trailer to $275 a night for a larger Class C motorhome. Because Alloway is in rural Salem County rather than a tourist hotspot, you generally find better value than at Jersey Shore pickup points. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book to see RVs with transparent pricing and no back-and-forth before locking in your dates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Alloway%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Alloway, New Jersey?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Alloway. New Jersey does not require a commercial driver's license or any RV-specific endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers driven on a standard Class D license. You just need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and the platform handles ID verification securely during checkout. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association along with your valid license. Most first-time renters are surprised by how straightforward the paperwork is, leaving you free to focus on planning your route.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Alloway RV rental?
Every RV rental in Alloway booked through RVezy comes with a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built in, so you can hit Route 40 with peace of mind. During checkout, you choose the level of coverage that fits your trip, from standard to premium options that cover most physical damage to the vehicle. While this is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection if something unexpected happens. Hosts do not select your coverage level, you do, which keeps you in control. Pro tip: review the protection options side by side during booking, especially if you are towing a travel trailer for the first time or planning to drive into Philadelphia traffic on Route 295.

Booking your Alloway RV rental is low risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. There is a grace period after booking where you can get a full refund, and additional protections apply for qualifying situations like severe weather events, which matter in coastal South Jersey. Because the outcome depends on how far in advance you cancel and the circumstances, the full details live in the RVezy Help Center. The bottom line: you are not locked in the moment you click book, and the policy is consistent across every listing.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Alloway is easy to find on RVezy, just use the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who welcome dogs and other animals. Many Salem County hosts are pet owners themselves and even leave bowls or beds in the RV. Once you arrive, your pup will love nearby Parvin State Park in Pittsgrove (about 20 minutes away), which has leashed-pet trails around Parvin Lake, and the open trails at Salem River Wildlife Management Area. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, and ask about any pet cleaning fee so there are no surprises at checkout.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/parvin-state-park/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Alloway?
Yes, RV delivery in Alloway is offered by many local hosts, which is a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Popular delivery destinations from Alloway include Four Seasons Family Campground in Pilesgrove, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Tall Pines in Elmer, and the Cowtown Rodeo grounds in Pilesgrove. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, then message them with your destination address for an exact quote.

Popular routes include Cape May (about 60 miles south, around 90 minutes), the Pine Barrens and Wharton State Forest (about 45 miles east), Philadelphia (about 35 miles northwest), Lancaster's Amish Country in Pennsylvania (about 75 miles west), and the Delaware beaches at Rehoboth (about 80 miles via the Cape May Lewes Ferry). Pro tip: New Jersey state park sites at Parvin book up fast for summer weekends, so reserve through the official New Jersey State Parks reservation system several months ahead.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/parvin-state-park/When is the best time of year for an Alloway RV trip?
Late April through October is prime time for RV camping in Alloway, with the sweet spot being May, June, September, and early October when daytime highs sit in a comfortable 65F to 80F range and humidity is manageable. July and August bring South Jersey heat in the mid-80s with humid afternoons, but evenings cool nicely for campfires. Fall foliage peaks in mid to late October across Salem County's farmland and forests. Winter rentals are available but many local campgrounds close from November through March, so plan to use private RV parks open year-round or head south. Pro tip: book Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends at least three months in advance, they sell out fastest.
weather.gov/phi/I'm a first-time RV renter. Will I be able to figure everything out?
Yes, and you are in great company, first time renting an RV is one of the most common bookings on RVezy. Every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, dump valves, and driving tips specific to that RV. Many Alloway hosts will even text you a video walkthrough beforehand so you arrive prepared. If you would rather skip the driving entirely, choose a host who offers delivery and setup. And once you are on the road, RVezy's support team is one tap away. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for your first trip, they are the easiest to drive on Salem County's narrow rural roads like Route 540.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV on the road?
Help is always close by. Every RVezy booking in Alloway includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so whether you have a flat tire on Route 40, a dead battery at Parvin State Park, or a propane issue at Tall Pines, one call gets a technician dispatched to you. Your host is also typically reachable by phone or in-app message for quick questions like resetting the GFCI or restarting the water pump. For anything bigger, RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: take a quick photo of the RV's tire pressure stickers and circuit breaker panel during your walkthrough, it makes troubleshooting calls much faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Alloway RV rental into Delaware, Pennsylvania, or Maryland?
Yes, crossing state lines from Alloway is straightforward and very common, since you are only about 15 minutes from the Delaware Memorial Bridge and 35 minutes from Philadelphia. Most hosts allow travel throughout the continental US, including popular nearby spots like Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware, Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, and Assateague Island in Maryland. Travel into Canada is allowed by some hosts with advance approval, but travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage ends at the border. To confirm, just message the host from the listing page with your route. Pro tip: the Cape May Lewes Ferry accepts RVs and is a scenic shortcut into Delaware beaches.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for an Alloway RV trip?
Budgeting fuel is easy once you know the ranges: Class B campervans get about 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically hits 10 to 14 mpg. South Jersey gas prices tend to sit near or slightly below the national average, with most Alloway-area stations on Route 40 and Route 49 offering competitive pricing. For a 200-mile loop to Cape May and back, expect to spend roughly $60 to $100 on fuel in a Class C. Pro tip: New Jersey is a full-service fuel state by law, so stay in the driver's seat and let the attendant pump, it is a quirky local rule.
nj.gov/mvc/vehicles/fullserve.htmHow far ahead should I book a campground near Alloway?
For the best campgrounds near Alloway, book 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and holidays, and 4 to 8 weeks ahead for shoulder-season trips. New Jersey state parks like Parvin and Belleplain State Forest open reservations through the official New Jersey State Parks reservation system several months in advance, and prime lakeside spots go fast. Private parks like Four Seasons and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Tall Pines take direct bookings on their websites and often sell out for July 4th and Labor Day by April. Pro tip: if your dates are tight, search Tuesday through Thursday nights, midweek availability is usually wide open even in peak summer, and rates are lower too.

Driving an RV around Alloway is refreshingly relaxed compared to the busier parts of New Jersey. The area is flat, rural farmland with wide county roads like Route 40, Route 49, and Route 540, ideal for first-time motorhome drivers. Watch for occasional farm equipment on shoulder roads and low-hanging branches on smaller lanes near Alloway Creek. If you are heading north toward Philadelphia or the Walt Whitman Bridge, plan to drive outside of rush hour (avoid 7 to 9 am and 4 to 6 pm). Pro tip: confirm your RV's height before crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge or any low-clearance overpass, your host can confirm the exact measurement at pickup.

State park campgrounds like Parvin offer electric hookups at many sites plus dump stations and bathhouses, though Wi-Fi is limited and you should plan to fill fresh water at the entrance station. For quick refills, the Wawa on Route 40 in Woodstown is a popular stop for ice, propane swaps, and snacks. A refundable security deposit is placed on hold a few days before your trip starts, with the exact amount set by the host and clearly shown on the listing before you book. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition it left, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a short walkaround video at pickup and dropoff, it is the easiest way to avoid any disputes and keep your deposit return smooth.
