Campgrounds and RV parks near Avalon, NJ

Avalon sits on Seven Mile Island along the southern Jersey Shore, between Sea Isle City to the north and Stone Harbor to the south. The barrier island itself is fully residential and does not permit overnight camping, so RV travelers stay at inland campgrounds a short drive across the causeway on the Cape May Peninsula mainland. Most sit within fifteen to twenty minutes of the beach along Route 9 and Route 47. The closest options include Avalon Campground on U.S. 9 North in Cape May Court House, Sea Pines RV Resort and Campground at 1535 Route 9 N in Swainton, Ponderosa Campground, and Sun Retreats Sea Isle on Route 9 N in Clermont. These parks handle a mix of transient RV travelers, weekly renters, and seasonal sites. Avalon works as a base for exploring the wider Cape May County shore, including Stone Harbor, Wildwood, and the Victorian district in Cape May. Cape May Point State Park and the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor add nature stops within a short drive of every campground listed above.

Most private campgrounds in the Avalon area take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Sea Pines RV Resort and Campground is operated by Thousand Trails and can be booked without a membership through the Thousand Trails site. Sun Retreats Sea Isle takes bookings through the Sun Outdoors website or by phone, and Avalon Campground and Ponderosa Campground book directly through their own sites. Summer weekends and holiday weeks often require a two or three-night minimum, and many parks release the following season's inventory to returning seasonal campers first. Book transient RV sites for July and August as early as January or February. When reserving, confirm rig length, slide-out clearance, and whether the site has 30 or 50-amp service, sewer, and cable. Also check pet policies, age-of-RV rules, and cancellation windows before paying a deposit.
