Campgrounds near Bloomsbury
Bloomsbury sits in western Hunterdon County, New Jersey, along the Musconetcong River near the Pennsylvania border. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of both New Jersey state park camping and private resorts on either side of the Delaware River, which makes it a practical base for weekend or week-long trips out of the New York and Philadelphia metros.
Closest to town, Mountainview Campground and Ringing Rocks Family Campground offer private-park camping in the rural hills around the Musconetcong and Delaware valleys. A short drive east, Spruce Run State Recreational Area provides state-run camping on one of New Jersey's largest reservoirs. West of the river, Colonial Woods Family Resort and Beaver Valley Campgrounds add more family-oriented private options in eastern Pennsylvania.
Most sites in the area are seasonal rather than year-round, and the mix ranges from full-hookup RV resorts with pools and activity programs to state-park loops with limited or no hookups. Planning early is important for summer weekends, when demand is highest.
Things to do near Bloomsbury
Water activities anchor most trips. Spruce Run is the third-largest reservoir in the state after Round Valley and Wanaque Reservoirs, and it draws boaters, anglers, paddlers, and swimmers to the shoreline and designated beach areas when open.
Land-based options are close by. The Musconetcong River corridor supports fly fishing and tubing, and the nearby Delaware and Raritan Canal and Columbia Trail give families flat, kid-friendly biking and walking. Ringing Rocks County Park on the Pennsylvania side is a short drive from several of the private campgrounds and is known for its boulder field.
Day trips reach Clinton's Red Mill Museum, Round Valley Recreation Area for hiking and lake views, and the Delaware Water Gap farther north.

The camping season in this part of New Jersey runs roughly April through October. The Spruce Run campground is open April 1 through October 31, offering 67 tent and trailer sites and three shelters with fire rings and picnic tables, and most private parks in the region follow a similar spring-to-fall pattern.
Summer is the peak. Sites fill quickly on summer weekends, and reservations are worth booking early, particularly for waterfront spots. July and August bring warm, humid days with afternoon thunderstorms, so shaded sites and awnings are useful. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book earliest.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with mild days and cool nights that suit hiking and paddling. Winter camping options are limited in the immediate area, and most private resorts shut down for the off-season.

How to book a campsite
New Jersey state park sites use a central online system. All advanced camping reservations must be made online at camping.nj.gov; same-day reservations can be made online until 2:00 p.m., and walk-in reservations are accepted if space is available. Campers can make reservations up to 11 months in advance for most state park campgrounds, so mark the calendar for popular summer dates.
Private parks such as Mountainview Campground, Ringing Rocks Family Campground, Colonial Woods Family Resort, and Beaver Valley Campgrounds handle their own bookings directly through their websites or by phone. Rules on pets, generators, and quiet hours vary by park, so confirm at the time of booking. Pets and alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the Spruce Run campground, which is a common surprise for first-time visitors.
What to expect on the ground
Hookups vary widely between parks. Spruce Run has 7 trailer-only campsites with water and electric 30/50 amp hookups with a sanitary dump station available within the campground, at campsites 1 through 4 and 55 through 57, while the remaining sites are non-hookup. Private resorts in the area more commonly offer full water, electric, and sewer.
Terrain is rolling and wooded. For RVs, requesting a spot with minimal tree coverage is advisable to avoid low-hanging branches, and level pads are the norm at the state park. The registration office closes at 4 p.m., so plan accordingly when arriving.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near Bloomsbury and along the I-78 corridor but can drop in valleys near the Delaware River.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Bloomsbury, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Bloomsbury, NJ?
RV rental in Bloomsbury is affordable compared to hotel stays in northwest New Jersey. Expect campervan rentals around $100 to $175 per night, travel trailers from $90 to $200, and larger Class A or Class C motorhome rentals in Bloomsbury from $200 to $400 per night. Weekday bookings and shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, and October typically run 15 to 25 percent cheaper than peak summer weekends. To find a cheap RV rental in Bloomsbury, filter by travel trailer, message hosts about weekly discounts, and consider delivery to skip towing costs. Pro tip: booking 8 to 10 weeks ahead for July or fall foliage trips locks in the best rates before Pocono and Delaware Water Gap travelers snap them up.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bloomsbury,%20New%20JerseyWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Bloomsbury?
Good news: a standard Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Bloomsbury, even for a large Class A motorhome. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) does not require a Commercial Driver License (CDL) or special endorsement for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, no matter the weight. RVezy requires every guest to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and identity verification is handled right inside the platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. That's the entire checklist, no extra trips to the MVC required before your Bloomsbury RV trip.
nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/cdl.htmIs RV rental in Bloomsbury, NJ covered by protection or insurance?
Every RV rental in Bloomsbury booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you drive off. During checkout you select the protection tier that fits your trip, with each level offering different coverage limits for damage to the RV. The protection plan covers most accidental damage to the vehicle and gives renters real financial peace of mind. Hosts cannot change or downgrade this coverage, it is set by RVezy and applied to every booking. Pro tip: review the included tiers before booking so you can match coverage to your route through the Skylands and Delaware Water Gap.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Bloomsbury RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. There is a money-back grace period right after you book, plus additional refund options that depend on how far out from your trip you cancel and on circumstances like severe weather. Hosts do not pick their own cancellation terms, so the experience is consistent across every listing. Pro tip: if a nor'easter or snowstorm rolls through Hunterdon County before your trip, contact RVezy support right away. They handle weather-related changes through a centralized process so you do not have to negotiate with the host yourself.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Bloomsbury RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Bloomsbury is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see listings from hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) along for the ride. Many local hosts charge a small pet cleaning fee, which you'll see clearly before booking. Once you're on the road, dogs are welcome on-leash at Spruce Run Recreation Area, Voorhees State Park, and most sites at Jenny Jump State Forest, all within 30 minutes of Bloomsbury. The Columbia Trail and Musconetcong River paths nearby are also great for stretching paws. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm breed or size preferences so check-in is smooth.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/pet-friendly/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Bloomsbury?
Yes, RV delivery in Bloomsbury is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-time renters. Many local hosts will deliver a travel trailer or motorhome directly to nearby campgrounds like Jenny Jump State Forest, Mountain View Campground in Hope, or Spruce Run Recreation Area, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, often $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location. To find delivery-ready listings, filter by Delivery on the RVezy search page. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer if you're nervous about towing on Route 78 or backing into a wooded site for the first time.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/spruce-run/How far can I drive on a Bloomsbury RV trip and what about mileage limits?
Bloomsbury sits in an ideal launchpad spot just off Interstate 78, so most renters get plenty of range from local hosts. Typical mileage policies range from 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles at roughly $0.35 to $0.50 each, and some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. From Bloomsbury you can reach the Delaware Water Gap in about 35 minutes, New York City in 75 minutes, Philadelphia in 90 minutes, the Pocono Mountains in under an hour, and the Jersey Shore in roughly two hours. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message hosts to negotiate a flat package rate.

Spruce Run Recreation Area in Clinton (about 15 minutes south) is the closest state park with drive-in RV sites along a 1,290-acre reservoir. Jenny Jump State Forest in Hope (25 minutes north) offers wooded sites with stunning Kittatinny Ridge views. Mountain View Campground in Hope and Panther Lake Camping Resort in Andover round out the list with full hookups and family amenities. For a Delaware River weekend, Worthington State Forest near the Water Gap has 69 riverside sites. Reserve New Jersey state park sites through camping.nj.gov up to 11 months in advance, which is a must for summer weekends.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/spruce-run/When is the best time to take an RV trip from Bloomsbury?
Late April through mid-October is prime season for an RV road trip from Bloomsbury, with the absolute sweet spots being May, June, September, and early October. Summer highs sit in the low 80s, fall foliage peaks in mid-October across Hunterdon and Warren Counties, and spring brings blooming dogwoods along the Musconetcong River. July and August are warmest and busiest, while winters dip into the 20s with occasional snow that closes many state park campgrounds. For the best balance of warm days, cool nights, and open campgrounds, target the Friday after Labor Day through Columbus Day weekend. Pro tip: fall foliage RV camping near Bloomsbury books up fast, so reserve by early August.
forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Bloomsbury&state=NJ&site=PHIIs renting an RV in Bloomsbury hard if it's my first time?
First time renting an RV? You're going to do great, and Bloomsbury is actually one of the easier places to start. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup covering propane, slide-outs, water, waste tanks, and driving tips, and many will text or call you throughout the trip if questions come up. Choose a smaller Class C motorhome rental in Bloomsbury or a 20 to 25 foot travel trailer if you're nervous about size, both handle Route 78 and rural Hunterdon roads easily. Better yet, opt for delivery so the host sets everything up at the campground. Pro tip: plan a short shakedown trip to Spruce Run before tackling a longer Pocono or Shore route.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/spruce-run/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Bloomsbury booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something goes wrong on Route 78, in the Delaware Water Gap, or deep in the Poconos, one call gets a technician dispatched to your location. Your host is also typically a phone call or text away to help troubleshoot RV-specific quirks like a finicky generator or slide-out, and RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick video of all systems during the host walkthrough so you can reference it roadside if needed.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV across state lines or into Canada from Bloomsbury?
Yes, interstate RV travel from Bloomsbury is not only allowed but encouraged, since you're sitting at a crossroads of three states. Popular routes include Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains (45 minutes west), New York's Catskills (2 hours north), Vermont and New Hampshire foliage trips, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the Jersey Shore. Canada trips are possible with some hosts if their insurance permits, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: for cross-border Canadian trips, build in extra time at the Champlain or Thousand Islands crossings and carry your booking confirmation.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much should I budget for fuel on a Bloomsbury RV road trip?
Fuel is one of the bigger trip costs, but easy to plan for. Travel trailers towed by a pickup typically get 10 to 14 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes around 8 to 12 MPG, Class B campervans 16 to 22 MPG, and big Class A rigs 6 to 9 MPG. New Jersey gas prices usually run slightly above the national average, with Hunterdon County stations along Route 22 and I-78 offering some of the cheaper local fill-ups. A typical 3-night, 300-mile loop from Bloomsbury to the Poconos and back costs roughly $90 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: New Jersey is a full-service state, so stay in your seat at the pump.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Bloomsbury?
For the best campgrounds near Bloomsbury, book as early as possible, especially for summer weekends and fall foliage. New Jersey state parks like Spruce Run, Round Valley Recreation Area, and Voorhees State Park accept reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official camping.nj.gov portal. Private campgrounds like Mountain View, Panther Lake, and Camp Taylor typically open bookings 6 to 12 months ahead. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Columbus Day) often sell out within hours of opening. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, midweek arrivals Tuesday through Thursday almost always have openings, even at peak season, and you'll have the campground nearly to yourself.
njportal.com/dep/njoutdoorsWhat are driving conditions like around Bloomsbury for a big RV?
Driving an RV around Bloomsbury is genuinely manageable thanks to its position right off Interstate 78, exit 7, with wide lanes and easy on-ramps to Pennsylvania and the rest of New Jersey. Local roads through Hunterdon and Warren Counties include some narrow rural routes and a few low bridges on county roads, so stick to numbered routes (22, 31, 57, 173) when possible. Watch for sharp grades on Route 519 and winding sections near the Delaware River. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through February, so check forecasts before heading out. Pro tip: avoid weekday rush hours (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM) on I-78 eastbound toward Newark and NYC.
511nj.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Bloomsbury?
Most full-service RV parks near Bloomsbury offer 30 and 50 amp electric, fresh water, and sewer hookups, while New Jersey state parks typically provide electric and water but no sewer at the site. Spruce Run Recreation Area has a dump station, potable water fill, hot showers, and flush toilets. Jenny Jump and Worthington State Forest sites are more rustic, with shared water spigots and pit or vault toilets. Private parks like Mountain View Campground and Panther Lake offer laundry, pools, camp stores, and Wi-Fi. Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump tanks before leaving any campground, because dump stations along I-78 are limited. Most state park dump stations are free for registered campers.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/spruce-run/What's actually inside the RVs available in Bloomsbury?
RVs available on RVezy in Bloomsbury come fully equipped and ready to camp. Expect real beds (queen, bunk, or convertible), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower in most Class B, C, A, and larger travel trailers, plus heating and air conditioning. Many include a TV, sound system, outdoor awning, propane grill, and seatbelted seating for travel. Some hosts add generators, solar panels, or Wi-Fi hotspots for off-grid trips. Listings show sleep counts, seatbelt counts, and full amenity checklists so you can compare. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count to match your group, and message the host if you need a specific item like a portable crib or bike rack.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/rv-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Bloomsbury rental?
Hosts in the Bloomsbury area offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), camping chairs and tables, propane refill, bike racks, generators, portable Wi-Fi, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is the biggest time-saver, with many hosts dropping the RV at your campground for a per-mile fee. Standard pickup is at the host's home, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Mileage allowances and generator hours are set per listing, both clearly listed. Pro tip: bundle linens, kitchen, and outdoor gear add-ons if you're flying into Newark or Philadelphia and don't want to schlep camping equipment to your rental in Bloomsbury.
visitnj.org/things-to-do/outdoor-adventuresHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is handled entirely through RVezy. You pay the booking total (rental, fees, protection plan, and any add-ons) by credit card when you book, with no cash changing hands at pickup. A refundable security deposit, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV, is pre-authorized on your card a few days before the trip and released after a clean return with no damage or excess mileage. To avoid surprises, do a thorough walkthrough video at pickup and return, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump tanks if required by your host. Pro tip: ask the host during the walkthrough what counts as normal wear so expectations are crystal clear.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Bloomsbury, NJ?
Bloomsbury's location in northwest New Jersey makes it a fantastic launchpad. Top routes include the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (35 minutes, 30 miles west) for hiking and river tubing; the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania (1 hour, 50 miles) for waterfalls and Jim Thorpe; New York City (75 minutes, 65 miles east) parking at Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City; the Catskills (2 hours, 110 miles north) for forested camping; and the Jersey Shore at Cape May (2.5 hours, 150 miles south) for beach and boardwalk fun. Pro tip: for a perfect 4-day loop, do Delaware Water Gap then Jim Thorpe then back through Hawk Mountain, a route locals call the Skylands Triangle.
