Camping near Brigantine, New Jersey
Brigantine sits on a barrier island just north of Atlantic City, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the salt marshes of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, which spans about 50 miles along the back bays of the New Jersey coast, from Barnegat Bay in Brick Township south to Reeds Bay just outside Atlantic City. The island itself is residential and does not permit RV camping, so renters base out of private campgrounds on the mainland, typically five to twenty miles inland along the Garden State Parkway corridor.
The closest options include Shady Pines MH and RV Resort and Atlantic City Blueberry Hill RV Park Morgan RV Resorts, both convenient for day trips to the Brigantine beaches and boardwalk. Chestnut Lake RV Campground and Pomona RV Park and Campground sit farther west in the Pine Barrens fringe, offering wooded sites and lake access. Atlantic Shore Pines Campground provides another mainland base within reach of the shore.
Most renters split their time between beach days on Brigantine, wildlife viewing at Forsythe, and the attractions of nearby Atlantic City.
Things to do near Brigantine
The main draw is the beach: Brigantine has miles of open Atlantic sand with lifeguarded sections in summer, plus a north-end natural area popular for surf fishing and beachcombing. Cyclists ride the seawall and quiet residential streets, and small-boat rentals launch into the back bays for crabbing and paddling.
Bird watching centers on the 8-mile Wildlife Drive, a one-way auto tour through wetlands and woodlands inside the Forsythe refuge. At least 322 species of birds have been observed on the refuge, and the Brigantine Division Wildlife Drive is the most popular place to view them, with two observation towers along the route.
Atlantic City, minutes south by causeway, adds the boardwalk, aquarium, and family arcades for rainy afternoons.

Summer is peak season on the Jersey Shore. Beach parking, campground sites, and boardwalk crowds all peak between late June and Labor Day, so RV renters targeting July and August should book well in advance. Ocean temperatures peak in August, making late summer the prime swimming window on the New Jersey coast.
Shoulder seasons are strong for RV travel. Spring brings migrating shorebirds and mild days, though rain is frequent. Fall offers warm ocean temperatures into September, thinner crowds, and excellent birding as waterfowl arrive.
Hurricane season overlaps the shoulder months: from June to November Atlantic City can be affected by hurricanes or their remnants, with the period from August to October being the most likely. Winter camping options are limited because many private parks close or reduce services, but the refuge stays open year-round, and January can be rewarding for coastal birding when ducks and geese mass on the back bays and saltmarshes.

How to book campgrounds near Brigantine
The campgrounds closest to Brigantine, including Shady Pines MH and RV Resort, Chestnut Lake RV Campground, Atlantic City Blueberry Hill RV Park Morgan RV Resorts, Atlantic Shore Pines Campground, and Pomona RV Park and Campground, are privately operated. Reserve directly through each park's website or by phone. Summer weekends and holiday weeks fill months ahead, and many parks require multi-night minimums in peak season.
For a New Jersey state park option such as Bass River or Belleplain State Forest, both within an hour's drive, use the official camping.nj.gov portal. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance, and same-day or one-night reservations must be made in person at the park office when space is available.
What to expect
Expect a mainland-to-shore rhythm. Campgrounds around Brigantine are set back on the Pine Barrens edge, so the drive to the beach typically takes fifteen to thirty minutes, and midsummer causeway traffic can add time on weekends. Most private parks offer full hookups, pools, and family programming; wooded sites are common, and sandy soil is the norm.
Insects are a real consideration. Salt-marsh mosquitoes and greenhead flies peak from late June through August, especially near the refuge. Bring repellent and screens.
Refuge visitors should note that all visitors must pay an entry fee for the Galloway/Oceanville area of the refuge or have a valid refuge Annual Pass, America the Beautiful Federal Lands Pass, or Duck Stamp. Beach tags are required on Brigantine in summer and are sold daily, weekly, or seasonally at kiosks.

Private parks like Pomona RV Park, Sun Retreats Seashore, and Atlantic Blueberry RV Park take reservations directly on their websites, often a year out for holiday weekends. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Brigantine%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. Your total includes the nightly rate, taxes, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit is held separately and authorized on your card before the trip, then released after a clean return with no damage or extra mileage charges. Pro tip to avoid issues: do a detailed walkthrough at pickup with the host, taking photos and a quick video of the interior, exterior, tires, and existing scratches. Keep all receipts and message the host through the RVezy app for any in-trip questions, since that creates a written record that protects everyone.

Here's the local secret: drive to the North End of Brigantine, the only New Jersey beach where you can ride horses, and one of the few with a 4x4 access permit. Park near the North End lot, watch piping plovers nest, and catch sunrise over the Atlantic, it's pure magic. Spend a morning at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge driving the 8-mile Wildlife Drive with the Atlantic City skyline shimmering across the marsh. Cap the day with crab cakes at a local seafood spot or pizza in town. Pro tip: grab seasonal beach tags at the Beach Fee Office on 42nd Street before your first beach day for the smoothest access.
