Camping near Camden, New Jersey
Camden sits on the east bank of the Delaware River directly across from Philadelphia, which shapes where RV travelers actually camp. The city itself is dense and urban, so campgrounds cluster in the rural stretches of Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington counties to the south and east, within roughly thirty to forty-five minutes of downtown. That places RVers close to the waterfront attractions in Camden and Center City Philadelphia while keeping sites in wooded, family-oriented parks.
The closest full-service option is Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday in Clarksboro, a country campground that works as a basecamp for exploring nearby Philadelphia. Lake Kandle and Old Cedar Campground add more local, family-run choices, while Four Seasons Campgrounds and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey extend the range deeper into the Pine Barrens region.
Most private parks in the area cater to families with pools, playgrounds, and pull-through RV sites. State-run camping is available farther east in the Pinelands, giving RV travelers a choice between resort-style amenities close to the city and quieter forest sites within an hour's drive.
Things to do around Camden
The Camden waterfront anchors most itineraries. Adventure Aquarium, the Battleship New Jersey, and the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion sit within a few blocks of each other, and the RiverLink Ferry crosses to Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. Families staying at Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday often split days between Camden's attractions and Philadelphia's historic district around Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.
Outdoor options widen quickly outside the city. The Cooper River Park trail system is close by for cycling and paddling, and the New Jersey Pine Barrens open up canoeing on the Batsto and Wading rivers within an hour east. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey runs swimming lakes, pools, and jumping pillows, and Lake Kandle also offers on-site lake swimming, which helps on hot summer afternoons when travel with kids benefits from a shorter day out.

The prime RV season around Camden runs from late April through mid-October. Summer is warm and humid, with July and August highs typically in the mid-80s Fahrenheit and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Travelers should plan for pop-up storms and check awning setups before leaving sites unattended.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for touring both Camden and Philadelphia on foot. May brings blooming parks and moderate temperatures, while September and October deliver cooler nights, thinner crowds, and reliable foliage across the Pine Barrens. These shoulder months are also easier for booking weekends at parks like Four Seasons Campgrounds and Old Cedar Campground.
Winter is quiet. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey operates seasonally, roughly mid-April through early November, and several other family-oriented parks in the region also close from late fall until spring. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday runs a longer season, making it the more reliable option for cold-weather stays, though freezing nights and occasional snow are common from December through February.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We would happily use RV Cozy Camper again for future trips!

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book near Camden
Private campgrounds around Camden take direct online reservations. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday books through the KOA website and app, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey uses Campspot. Lake Kandle, Old Cedar Campground, and Four Seasons Campgrounds each accept reservations through their own sites or by phone, and most require a deposit at booking.
For summer weekends and any holiday, booking two to three months out is realistic, and popular sites at Jellystone fill earlier. New Jersey state park campsites, useful as a backup farther east, are reserved through the state's NJ Outdoors portal on njportal.com run by the Department of Environmental Protection, with a rolling window that opens about four months ahead. Confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and pet policies before locking in dates, since site dimensions vary widely between parks.
What to expect on-site
Most RV parks near Camden are wooded, mid-sized, and family-focused. Expect gravel or grass sites with a mix of full hookups and water/electric-only, 30 and 50 amp service at the larger parks, and standard dump stations. Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday has paved roads with gravel and grass parking pads and a mix of back-in, pull-through, and tent sites, making it a solid choice for longer motorhomes and trailers.
Amenities skew toward kids: pools, playgrounds, jumping pillows, and lake swimming at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey and Lake Kandle. Wi-Fi is available at most parks but can be uneven under tree cover, so travelers who need reliable signal for work should confirm cellular coverage on their carrier before arrival.
Traffic on I-295, I-76, and the Walt Whitman and Ben Franklin bridges backs up during weekday rush hours. Planning arrivals and city trips outside those windows saves time.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Camden, NJ
How much does an RV rental in Camden, NJ typically cost?
RV rental in Camden typically runs about $95 to $175 per night for travel trailers and campervans, while larger Class A and Class C motorhomes generally range from $200 to $375 per night on RVezy. Pricing reflects RV size, age, and seasonal demand, with peak rates between Memorial Day and Labor Day when Jersey Shore traffic picks up. For a cheap RV rental in Camden, aim for midweek pickups, book in April or late September, and filter listings by sleeps count so you do not overpay for unused space. Many Camden-area hosts also offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so a 6 or 7 night Pine Barrens loop often costs less per night than a quick weekend trip to Atlantic City.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camden%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Camden, NJ?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need for an RV rental in Camden, since New Jersey does not require any special endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for recreational vehicles used for personal travel. You will need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking, so there is no DMV visit required. Visiting from outside the United States? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit (IDP) before your trip and you are set. Most first-timers renting a Class C motorhome in Camden are surprised how familiar it feels behind the wheel, especially compared to driving a large pickup.
nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/cdl.htmIs my Camden, NJ RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Every RV rental in Camden booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level during checkout, not the host, and coverage helps with most physical damage to the RV during your trip. Pro tip: review the protection tiers before you book so you can pick the level that matches your comfort, then save the 24/7 roadside number to your phone before you cross the Walt Whitman Bridge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Camden RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy that applies to your reservation. Every booking includes a short grace-period window after booking where eligible cancellations can receive a full refund, and after that your refund depends on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host cancels, RVezy helps coordinate a refund or rebooking credit. You will see the exact terms that apply to your trip in your booking confirmation. Pro tip: lock in a Camden RV rental early to get the pick of pet-friendly and delivery-ready rigs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Camden, NJ?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in Camden is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and browse hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), often for a small cleaning fee. South Jersey is a great region to travel with a pup: Wharton State Forest allows leashed dogs on most trails, Cooper River Park in Pennsauken has wide walking paths along the water, and Belleplain State Forest welcomes leashed pets in its campground. Pack a tie-out, collapsible water bowl, and vaccination records, since many campgrounds ask for proof at check-in. Message the host before booking if you have a large breed so they can confirm space and rules.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/wharton.htmlCan a host deliver the RV to me in Camden, NJ?
Yes, RV delivery in Camden is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a 30-foot motorhome over the Ben Franklin Bridge. Many local hosts will deliver and set up the RV at your campground, driveway, or a Jersey Shore rental property, then walk you through every system before leaving. Common delivery destinations include Timberlane Campground in Clarksboro, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Tabernacle, and campgrounds near the Atlantic City area. Filter by Delivery on listing search, then message the host with your destination and dates to confirm the fee, which is usually calculated per mile from their home base.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camden%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I travel from Camden, NJ on a typical mileage policy?
You can cover a lot of ground from Camden, since most RVezy hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with options to prepay extra miles or find listings advertising RV rental with unlimited mileage. To put that in perspective: Atlantic City is about 60 miles east, Cape May about 90 miles south, Wharton State Forest about 35 miles southeast, the Pocono Mountains roughly 110 miles north, and Washington, D.C. about 140 miles south. For a longer Camden RV trip, ask the host upfront about their per-mile overage rate (commonly $0.30 to $0.45) so there are no surprises at drop-off. Pro tip: a 7-night loop through the Pine Barrens and Jersey Shore typically fits comfortably inside a standard mileage allowance.

You have a strong lineup of campgrounds within an hour of Camden. Timberlane Campground in Clarksboro is about 15 minutes south with full hookups and easy I-295 access. Wharton State Forest's Atsion Family Campground (about 40 minutes east) offers wooded sites inside the Pine Barrens with lake swimming. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Tabernacle is family gold, with pools and activities about 45 minutes away. Belleplain State Forest, around 75 minutes south, is a quiet, affordable favorite with electric sites. Book New Jersey state park sites through the official NJ State Park Service reservation portal, and reserve summer weekends 2 to 3 months ahead for the best site selection.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time to take an RV trip from Camden, NJ?
Late April through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Camden, with the sweet spot in May, June, September, and early October when daytime highs sit in the 65 to 80 degree F range and humidity stays manageable. July and August get hot and humid (highs near 86 degrees F with high humidity), but that is also when Jersey Shore beaches, Pine Barrens swimming holes, and Phillies games are at full tilt, so confirm the rental has working air conditioning. Fall foliage peaks in late October across the Delaware Valley and makes for stunning drives along Route 206. Winter rentals are available too for cold-weather adventurers heading to the Poconos, just confirm the RV has heated holding tanks before booking.
weather.gov/phi/I have never driven an RV before. How do I feel confident picking one up in Camden?
You are in good hands. First time renting an RV with RVezy means your Camden host walks you through every system at pickup, from leveling jacks and slide-outs to the propane stove and waste tanks, before you turn the key. Most first-timers in the area choose a Class C motorhome (22 to 28 feet) or a smaller travel trailer because they handle a lot like a large van or pickup. Avoid narrow downtown Camden streets and Center City Philadelphia, stick to I-295, the New Jersey Turnpike, and the Atlantic City Expressway, which are RV-friendly and well-marked. Pro tip: message the host before booking with any questions about clearance, parking, or driving tips, since they know the area well.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I get a flat tire or break down during my Camden RV trip?
Take a breath: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are on the Atlantic City Expressway, the Garden State Parkway, or a quiet road through Wharton State Forest. Roadside covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and fuel delivery. For mechanical concerns, contact your host and RVezy support right away so they can coordinate a fix or replacement. Pro tip: before you leave Camden, save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone, snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate, and you will have everything you need if anything pops up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Camden, NJ?
An RV road trip from Camden puts an incredible variety of destinations within easy reach. Head about 60 miles east to Atlantic City and Ocean City for boardwalks and beaches, or push about 90 miles south to Cape May for Victorian charm and the Cape May Lighthouse. The Pine Barrens loop through Wharton State Forest (about 35 miles) is a classic short getaway. Going north, you can be in the Pocono Mountains in about 2 hours, or reach Cape Henlopen State Park in Delaware via the Cape May to Lewes Ferry. For a longer haul, Washington, D.C. is about 140 miles south. Cross-state travel is fully allowed, just confirm with your host before crossing into Canada, and trips to Mexico are not permitted on RVezy.
visitnj.org/nj/road-tripsHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV rental in Camden, NJ?
Fuel is one of the biggest variables, but it is easy to estimate. Class B campervans get roughly 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A coaches typically run 6 to 10 MPG. With New Jersey regular gas often around $3.00 to $3.50 per gallon (and the state still requiring full-service attendants by law), a 300-mile weekend in a Class C will cost roughly $80 to $120 in fuel. Diesel coaches cost more per gallon but stretch further per mile. Pro tip: top off in New Jersey before crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge or the bridges into Pennsylvania, since Jersey is often cheaper, and apps like GasBuddy can route you to the best stops along the way.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Camden, NJ?
For New Jersey state parks like Wharton, Belleplain, and Bass River, book through the official New Jersey State Park Service reservation portal, where sites can open well in advance. For summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day), plan to reserve 3 to 6 months ahead, especially for waterfront and full-hookup sites. Private parks like Timberlane Campground and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Tabernacle use their own booking sites or Campspot and typically need 2 to 3 months of lead time in peak season. Shoulder-season trips in May, September, and October are far easier, you can often grab great sites just a week or two out. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) open up sites that vanish on Fridays.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are local driving conditions like in and around Camden, NJ?
Driving an RV around Camden is very manageable once you stick to the right routes. I-295 and the New Jersey Turnpike are wide, flat, and built for big rigs, while the Atlantic City Expressway is the easiest path to the shore. Avoid downtown Camden's narrow one-way streets and the Ben Franklin Bridge during rush hour (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.), and remember that New Jersey requires full-service fueling, so pull up and let the attendant fuel you. Watch for low-clearance parkways: the Garden State Parkway has restrictions for taller vehicles north of Asbury Park, so most RVs should use the Turnpike instead. Pro tip: an RV-specific GPS app like RV Trip Wizard keeps you off restricted roads automatically.
state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/roads/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Camden, NJ?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Camden offer the full RV setup you would hope for. Private parks like Timberlane in Clarksboro and Spacious Skies Country Oaks deliver 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and on-site dump stations. New Jersey state forests like Wharton (Atsion) and Belleplain typically provide more rustic sites without full hookups, so you will use the on-site dump station before departure. Fresh-water fill stations are standard at developed campgrounds, and ice and propane are usually sold at the camp store. Pro tip: if you plan to boondock in the Pine Barrens, fill your fresh water and dump your tanks at Atsion before heading deeper in, and bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose just in case the spigot is a stretch from your site.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/wharton.htmlWhat features and amenities come with a typical motorhome rental in Camden, NJ?
Most motorhome rentals in Camden come fully equipped and trip-ready. Expect queen or king beds, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with both furnace and air conditioning, dinette seating that converts to extra sleeping space, and seatbelted passenger seats. Many Class C and Class A rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, and onboard generator for off-grid power, while newer campervan rental Camden options often add solar panels and Wi-Fi boosters. Linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are commonly included, but always check the listing details. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and add-ons that matter to you (generator, bike rack, outdoor grill) so your rig is dialed in for the Jersey Shore or Pine Barrens before pickup.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camden%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Camden RV rental?
RVezy hosts in Camden offer a menu of add-ons that can upgrade your trip: delivery and setup (great if you are renting near Atlantic City or Cape May), generator usage, propane refills, bike racks, outdoor grills, camp chairs, kid and pet kits, and even pre-stocked kitchens. Common fees range from around $25 for a stocked kitchen kit to $150 to $300 for delivery, depending on distance. Pickup and dropoff is typically at the host's home in places like Cherry Hill, Pennsauken, or across the river in Philadelphia, with most hosts offering a 1 to 2 hour walkthrough window. Pro tip: review each host's mileage policy and add-on list before booking, and stack must-haves into one message to streamline coordination.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Camden%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Camden, NJ?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit or debit card when you book, and your trip total (rental, protection plan, fees) is processed by the platform, never in cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately before pickup, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, and it is released back to your card after drop-off assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup and drop-off and take date-stamped photos and video of the interior, exterior, and odometer. Pro tip: return the RV with the fuel and propane levels you received, dump the tanks if required, and your deposit comes back fast and clean.
