Campgrounds and RV parks near Chatham, NJ

Chatham sits in Morris County, roughly 25 miles west of Manhattan and within an hour's drive of the New Jersey Highlands, the Delaware Water Gap corridor, and the Jersey City waterfront. That geography gives RV renters unusually varied options for a single trip: urban-adjacent parks with skyline access, family-focused lake resorts, and rustic wooded campgrounds close to state forest trailheads. The closest RV-friendly options span a wide range. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City markets itself as the closest RV park to New York City, while Fla-Net Park in Flanders and Panther Lake Camping Resort in Andover sit in the more rural northwest. Goodland Country Club and Spa is located in the Hackettstown area of northwestern New Jersey, roughly 20 minutes east of the Delaware Water Gap. One note on Camp Wyanokie in West Milford: it is a rustic 150-acre camp that offers tent camping and group events by reservation only, and it does not accommodate RVs. RV renters should plan around that limitation and use it only for tent-based side trips.

New Jersey state park campsites are handled through a single centralized system. Reservations for family tent and trailer campsites, group campsites, primitive campsites, RV sites, cabins, shelters, lean-tos, and wilderness campsites can be made up to 11 months in advance at camping.nj.gov. Popular weekends at High Point, Stokes, Worthington, and Wharton fill early, so booking as soon as the window opens is advisable for summer and fall. Private parks are booked directly. Panther Lake Camping Resort takes reservations through its website and reservations line, Fla-Net Park is booked by phone or through its site, and Liberty Harbor RV Park is booked directly with the marina office. Holiday weekends typically carry multi-night minimums, and cancellation policies vary by park, so review terms before confirming.
