Things to do around Collings Lakes
Water is the main draw. The Great Egg Harbor River and the Mullica River corridor support canoeing, kayaking, and tubing, and several campgrounds rent boats and run shuttle trips. Winding River Campground sits directly on the Egg Harbor River near Mays Landing and rents canoes, kayaks, and tubes, providing trips and transportation back to the campground.
Wharton State Forest, a short drive north, is the largest tract in the New Jersey State Park System. Encompassing about 122,880 acres, it offers miles of unpaved roads for mountain biking and horseback riding, numerous lakes, ponds, and rivers for canoeing and fishing, open fields for wildlife observation, and hiking trails including a major section of the 50-mile Batona Trail.
Beach days at Atlantic City's boardwalk, historic Batsto Village, and the Cowtown Rodeo round out day-trip options.

How to book campgrounds near Collings Lakes
Private campgrounds in the area take reservations directly through their own sites or by phone. Winding River, Jellystone South Jersey, Roamers Beach RV Resort, Buena Vista Campground, and Buena Vista Camping Park all fill weekends and holiday windows well in advance, so book several months out for summer stays. Seasonal sites at the larger resorts often sell out before the season opens.
State-forest sites use New Jersey's central reservation system at camping.nj.gov. Reservations for Atsion Family Campground can be made through the New Jersey State Park Service reservation system, online or by phone. Atsion Campground requires a minimum stay of two nights. Cancellation windows and pet policies vary by park, and pet-friendly state sites carry an extra nightly fee and require written proof of current rabies vaccination at check-in.
What to expect on the ground
This is Pine Barrens country: sandy soils, pitch pine and oak forest, tannin-stained rivers, and long stretches of quiet backroads. Private campgrounds tend to be large, family-oriented resorts with pools, playgrounds, theme weekends, and cabin rentals alongside RV sites.
Expect shaded, wooded sites with a mix of full hookups and water-electric sites; sewer connections and Wi-Fi quality vary by park and site. Roads inside older campgrounds are often sand or gravel, and RVs longer than 22 feet will have a hard time accessing some Wharton State Forest campgrounds, where sites are small and can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 22 feet in length. Larger rigs should confirm site length in advance.
Cell coverage is generally usable but patchy inside the forest. Bring bug spray for spring and summer; ticks and mosquitoes are common in the Pinelands.

Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at booking using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) is held separately from your booking payment and released back to you after the trip assuming the RV returns in good shape. To avoid any deposit hassles, do a quick walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff, return with the fuel and propane at the same levels you received, and empty the tanks if your agreement requires it. Pro tip: keep gas receipts from your last fill-up, they are your best friend for a smooth checkout.
