Campgrounds near Crosswicks, New Jersey
Crosswicks is a small village in Chesterfield Township, Burlington County, sitting along Crosswicks Creek about six miles from Trenton and roughly seventeen miles from Philadelphia. The area works well as an RV base because it sits at the meeting point of central New Jersey's horse country, the Delaware River corridor, and the northern edge of the Pine Barrens, so travelers can reach very different landscapes within a short drive.
Options within about an hour cover both private RV parks and state land. Timberland Lake Campground and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground sit in the Jackson area near Six Flags Great Adventure, and Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort is in the Cream Ridge area east of Crosswicks. West of town, Washington Crossing State Park is the site of General George Washington's historic 1776 Christmas night crossing of the icy Delaware River. To the south, Brendan T Byrne State Forest opens into the Pinelands.
Most trips combine one private full-hookup park for the RV with day drives to state land for hiking, history, and paddling.
Things to do around Crosswicks
History drives a lot of trips here. The Washington Crossing Visitor Center Museum's exhibit galleries explore the many facets of America's revolutionary conflict with an emphasis on the military campaign known as The Ten Crucial Days, covering December 25, 1776 through January 3, 1777, including the crossing of the Delaware River and the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. An open-air theater is operated by the Washington Crossing Association of New Jersey from June through August, presenting a summer festival of music and drama. Crosswicks itself sits on the site of a June 1778 skirmish and retains a historic district around its 1773 Friends Meeting House.
For outdoor days, Brendan T. Byrne State Forest has more than 25 miles of marked trails through pine-oak woods and Atlantic white cedar swamp, plus the historic cranberry village of Whitesbog and fishing at Pakim Pond. Six Flags Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor, and the Wild Safari are within a short drive of the Jackson-area campgrounds.
