Camping near Dayton, New Jersey
Dayton is an unincorporated community in South Brunswick Township, Middlesex County, sitting in east-central New Jersey between New Brunswick to the north and Hightstown to the south, with U.S. Route 130 forming its eastern edge. The immediate area is suburban, so most RV campgrounds sit twenty to forty miles out, clustered in Monmouth and Ocean counties where forested tracts and county parks remain.
The closest full-service options for RV travelers include Timberland Lake Campground and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground in the Jackson Township area, Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort in Cream Ridge, Pine Cone Campgrounds farther east, and Turkey Swamp Park in Freehold Township, which is operated by the Monmouth County Park System.
These campgrounds range from a large county park with pull-through water and electric sites to family-run commercial resorts with full hookups, pools, and lakes. Most sit within a short drive of Six Flags Great Adventure and roughly an hour from the Jersey Shore, making Dayton a practical staging point for a mixed theme-park, beach, and outdoors trip.
Things to do near Dayton
Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson is the dominant draw for family RV trips in this corridor. Timberland Lake Campground sits roughly two miles west of the park, and Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort is about the same distance away, making both convenient bases for multi-day theme-park visits.
On-site activities vary. Turkey Swamp Park has a 17-acre lake for fishing and boating, an archery range, and about 9 miles of multi-use trails through pitch pine and oak. Timberland Lake Campground offers a private five-acre lake with paddle boats, an Olympic-sized pool, mini-golf, and themed weekends with hayrides.
Day trips reach the Jersey Shore beaches to the east, the Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath near Dayton, and Princeton and New Brunswick for museums, dining, and college-town walking.

Water service at Turkey Swamp Park generally runs mid-April through mid-November, and most private resorts follow a similar seasonal pattern.

Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. April and May bring wildflowers and lower bug pressure, while September and October deliver crisp nights, changing foliage, and thinner crowds. Winter camping is limited: most private parks close for the season, and only a handful of resorts stay open year round.

Jacek was amazing with communication and having the advantages being able to have the RV delivered and set up was amazing. I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself. The camper was super clean, and comfortable. We had a great time.

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

Sites in this region are typically wooded, on sandy or pine-needle soil, with pitch pine and oak cover. Turkey Swamp Park sites are pull-through with water and electric hookups, no sewer, and a self-serve dump station. Commercial parks such as Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground and Timberland Lake Campground offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, plus pools, camp stores, and laundry.
