Campgrounds and RV parks near Dover, NJ

Dover sits in Morris County in New Jersey's Skylands region, giving RV travelers quick access to the wooded ridges, lakes, and state parks of the northern Highlands. Interstate 80 runs just north of town, connecting the area to New York City in under an hour and making Dover a practical base for weekend trips and longer regional loops. Most campgrounds within a short drive fall into two categories: privately run resorts with full hookups, pools, and family programming, and quieter state-park sites geared to tents and smaller rigs. Options within roughly a half-hour drive include Fla-Net Park, Goodland Country Club and Spa, Stephens State Park, Panther Lake Camping Resort, and The Great Divide Campground, spanning both styles. Terrain in the surrounding townships is rolling and forested, with the Musconetcong River, Lake Hopatcong, and Allamuchy Mountain all within easy reach. Sites near Dover tend to be wooded rather than open, so RVers should confirm length limits and site dimensions before booking, especially for Class A motorhomes and long fifth wheels.

State-run sites and private resorts use different systems. Online reservations for Stephens State Park can be made at camping.nj.gov, the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry portal used across the state park system. Sites are released on a rolling window, and prime summer weekends move quickly after they open. Private parks near Dover book directly through their own websites or by phone. Panther Lake, The Great Divide, Fla-Net Park, and Goodland Country Club and Spa each handle their own reservations, deposits, and cancellation windows, so policies vary. At Panther Lake, notification must be made 14 days prior to arrival to receive a refund, otherwise a credit is issued for that year, so confirm cancellation terms before paying. For RV renters, verify max rig length, hookup type (30 vs 50 amp), and whether the site is back-in or pull-through when booking.
