Camping near Far Hills, New Jersey
Far Hills sits in the Somerset Hills of north-central New Jersey, within easy driving distance of the Highlands and Skylands camping corridor. The area mixes state-park tent and trailer sites with full-service private RV resorts, making it workable for everything from a small Class B weekend to a family stay in a larger motorhome.
The closest options skew small and quiet. Fla-Net Park and Goodland Country Club and Spa give travelers nearby places to stage a short trip without a long drive on the day of arrival. For more traditional state-park camping, Stephens State Park in Hackettstown sits along the Musconetcong River and Voorhees State Park lies in the wooded hills of northern Hunterdon County, both within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive. Farther north, Panther Lake Camping Resort in Andover offers a full RV resort experience on a 45-acre lake set within 160 wooded acres. Together these properties cover most renter needs: hookups, dump stations, lake access, and trail networks.
Things to do near Far Hills
Outdoor activity in this part of New Jersey centers on hiking, fishing, paddling, and history. Stephens State Park offers picnic sites along the Musconetcong River and six miles of marked trails for walking, hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding, with the river stocked for trout fishing. Less than a mile east at Saxton Falls are the remains of a Morris Canal lock and a section of the old canal's towpath, a useful add-on for a layover day.
Voorhees State Park adds a different draw. It is home to the New Jersey Astronomical Association's purpose-built observatory, geared toward the novice astronomer, and the on-site telescope is the largest working public telescope in New Jersey. Multi-use trails accommodate a range of skill levels. Panther Lake Camping Resort rounds out the options with lake swimming, kayak, paddle board and pedal boat rentals, and fishing on the lake.

The Far Hills camping season is tied to the New Jersey state-park calendar. At Voorhees State Park, the campground is open from April 1 through Oct. 31 for family camping, and campsites at Stephens State Park are open from April 1 through Oct. 31. Panther Lake Camping Resort runs an April 1 to October 31 season, so winter RV camping in the immediate area is effectively unavailable at the listed parks.
Spring brings cool nights, mud on lower trails, and the first trout-stocking runs on the Musconetcong. Summer is the busiest stretch, with warm days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and weekend sites that book out well in advance. Late September and October are arguably the best window for RV travelers, with foliage across Hunterdon and Warren counties, lighter crowds, and cooler sleeping temperatures. Once campgrounds close, day visitors can still enter to enjoy groomed trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book near Far Hills
New Jersey state parks use a single reservation portal at camping.nj.gov. Both Stephens State Park and Voorhees State Park are booked through that system. Voorhees State Park and its campgrounds are administered by Spruce Run Recreation Area rather than an on-site office. All overnight facilities must be reserved in advance, and standard NJ state park policy requires at least one adult 18 years of age or older per site.
Private campgrounds are booked directly. Panther Lake Camping Resort takes reservations by phone and through its own website, with cabin, weekly, monthly, and seasonal options in addition to nightly RV sites. For summer weekends and holiday stretches, lock in dates several weeks ahead at minimum.
What to expect at area campgrounds
State-park sites in this region are rustic by RV-resort standards. Stephens State Park offers 39 tent and small trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables, with flush toilets and showers within walking distance, and larger Class A rigs may struggle with site length and access roads. Voorhees offers 47 campsites for tents and RVs, plus two group sites for 30 to 50 people, and modern restrooms with showers are located in the center of the campground, with a sanitary dump station available to Voorhees campers at Spruce Run Recreation Area.
Two rules trip up first-time visitors. Dogs are permitted in the day areas of the park, but the Voorhees campground is not pet-friendly, and alcoholic beverages are prohibited across NJ state campgrounds. Panther Lake offers a heavier amenity mix, with a seasonally open swimming pool, sandy beach, and lake swimming.
