Campgrounds near Folsom, NJ
Folsom is a small borough in Atlantic County, sitting inside the New Jersey Pine Barrens about 25 miles west of Atlantic City. The surrounding landscape is pine and oak forest laced with the Great Egg Harbor River and its tributaries, and it borders the vast Wharton State Forest to the north. That gives RV travelers a base within an hour of the Jersey Shore, roughly an hour from Philadelphia, and inside one of the largest protected pinelands on the East Coast.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Roamers Beach RV Resort and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: South Jersey are the closest full-service options, both offering hookups and family amenities. Buena Vista Campground and Buena Vista Camping Park sit just west of the borough, and Winding River Campground provides riverfront sites on the Great Egg Harbor.
For a more rustic experience, the New Jersey State Park Service operates campgrounds inside Wharton State Forest, the largest tract in the state park system, but those sites are best suited to smaller rigs.
Things to do near Folsom
The Pine Barrens are the main draw. Wharton State Forest offers canoeing and kayaking on the Mullica, Wading, and Batsto rivers, plus swimming at Atsion Lake in summer when lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Batsto Village, a preserved iron and glassmaking settlement that operated from 1766 to 1867 inside the forest, has more than thirty historic structures and a visitor center focused on Pinelands history and ecology.
Hiking and biking options are extensive. There are 77 miles of marked hiking trails, and more than 27 miles of the Batona Trail run within Wharton State Forest. Hundreds of miles of unpaved sand roads are open to mountain bikes and horses.
Off-forest, Atlantic City's beaches, boardwalk, and casinos are a short drive east, and the wineries of the Outer Coastal Plain sit within a few miles of Folsom.

Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Private parks near Folsom fill quickly on summer weekends and around the July 4th holiday, when Atlantic City events and shore traffic compound demand. Booking several weeks ahead is standard, and popular holiday weekends often sell out earlier.
Spring and fall are the strongest shoulder seasons. April and May bring mild days and blooming mountain laurel, along with lower nightly rates at private campgrounds. September and October stay warm enough for river paddling while bug pressure drops sharply from the summer peak of mosquitoes, ticks, and greenhead flies common in the Pinelands.
Winter is quiet. Many private campgrounds in South Jersey close or reduce operations from late fall through early spring, though Atsion Campsites in Wharton State Forest keep the trailer sanitary station and campsites open all year. Occasional nor'easters can bring snow, ice, and travel disruption.

How to book near Folsom
Private campgrounds around Folsom, including Roamers Beach RV Resort, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: South Jersey, Buena Vista Campground, Buena Vista Camping Park, and Winding River Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends and holidays typically require deposits and have minimum-night stays.
State-run sites inside Wharton State Forest use the New Jersey State Park Service system. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov. Atsion Campground requires a minimum stay of two nights, and campers can make reservations both online and in person.
RV size matters when choosing a state site: sites at Atsion and Godfrey Bridge are capped at 22 feet, and RVs longer than that will have a hard time accessing the campgrounds in Wharton. Larger rigs should stick to the private parks listed above.
What to expect on-site
Private RV parks near Folsom generally offer full or partial hookups, laundry, showers, dump stations, pools, and family programming. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: South Jersey leans heavily into kid-focused activities. Winding River Campground and Roamers Beach RV Resort include riverfront or water-access sites. Buena Vista Campground and Buena Vista Camping Park cater to seasonal and short-stay campers alike.
State forest sites are the opposite end of the spectrum. Each site has a fire ring and a picnic table, and flush toilets, showers, and potable water are within walking distance at Atsion. There are no hookups, though a dump station is on-site.
Cell coverage inside the Pine Barrens can be spotty. Bring paper maps, drinking water, and insect repellent, and check current fire restrictions before lighting a campfire.

How much does an RV rental in Folsom, NJ cost, and how can I save?
An affordable RV rental in Folsom, NJ is easier to find than you might think, since this corner of Atlantic County sits well off the pricier Jersey Shore boardwalk. Expect travel trailers from about $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275, and Class A rigs from $250 and up. To score a cheap RV rental in Folsom, book midweek, target shoulder months like late April, May, or September, and consider towable trailers if you already have a tow-capable vehicle. Pro tip: filter by Instant Book and Delivery to find hosts who price competitively and save you a tow to the campground.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Folsom%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Folsom, NJ?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Folsom, NJ. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required in New Jersey, even for larger Class A motorhomes. You will need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we will verify your ID through the platform during checkout, so there is nothing to print or bring in person. Visiting from outside the United States? Pair your home country license with an International Driving Permit (IDP), available from your local auto club for under $25. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised by how simple the process is.
nj.gov/mvc/license/driverlicense.htmWhat is included in the protection package when I rent an RV in Folsom, NJ?
Every RVezy booking in Folsom, NJ includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head into the Pine Barrens with peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host. Hosts cannot upsell or change your protection. If a tire blows on the Atlantic City Expressway or your battery dies at Batsto Village, one phone call gets help on the way day or night. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection so you can focus on the trip, not the what-ifs.

Plans change, and RVezy is built to handle that. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every booking includes a grace period after you confirm where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. You can review the current policy details and request a cancellation right from your RVezy account, and the support team is available to help if a host cancels or you run into a problem before pickup.

Use the Pet-Friendly filter when you search to see only RVs that welcome your four-legged co-pilot. Some hosts add a small cleaning fee, which will be shown upfront before you book. For trails and overnights, Wharton State Forest's Atsion Family Campground allows leashed dogs at designated pet-friendly sites with proof of rabies vaccination, and the Batona Trail is wide open for paws. njportal.com/DEP/NJOutdoors/Park/Details?locationId=19When is the best time to visit Folsom, NJ in an RV?
Late spring through early fall is the sweet spot for an RV camping Folsom trip, when temperatures range from a comfortable 65°F in May to highs around 86°F in July and August. June and September are the local favorites: warm days, cool nights in the 50s and 60s, fewer mosquitoes, and lower campground prices than peak July. October brings stunning Pine Barrens color and crisp camping weather in the 60s. Winters in Folsom can dip into the 20s with occasional snow, so most public campgrounds close from November through March. Insider tip: time your trip to mid-October for the Chatsworth Cranberry Festival, a true Pine Barrens tradition just 20 minutes away.
weather.gov/phi/I have never rented an RV before. Is renting in Folsom good for first-timers?
Folsom is one of the friendliest spots in New Jersey for first time renting an RV. The roads around town are flat, wide, and uncongested compared to North Jersey, and the Pine Barrens campgrounds are designed with easy pull-through sites. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water, propane, and dump procedures, and they are just a text away during your trip. RVezy's 24/7 support is also on call. Pro tip: book a smaller Class C motorhome or campervan for your first trip, head straight to a flat campground like Pine Haven or Atsion, and stay two or three nights so you have time to settle in.
nj.gov/mvc/license/driverlicense.htmWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my Folsom RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether you have a flat on the Garden State Parkway, a dead battery at Batsto Village, or a propane question at midnight in Wharton State Forest, help is one call away. Roadside covers tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. Your host is also a great first text for quick questions about their specific RV, and RVezy support backs up the whole trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone the day you book, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate during your walkthrough so any service call moves faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Folsom RV rental to other states or into Canada?
Cross-state travel is welcome and easy from Folsom, NJ. Most hosts allow trips throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, so you can roll through Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New York, and beyond. Popular routes include the Delaware coast (about 90 miles south), the Catskills (around 160 miles north), and Acadia National Park (about 500 miles northeast). Trips to Canada may be allowed if you message the host first to confirm, and the host can update insurance details on RVezy if needed. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Message the host directly from the listing page to confirm your route before booking.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas costs should I budget for in Folsom, NJ?
Budgeting fuel is straightforward for an RV rental in Folsom, NJ. Expect about 7 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 for a Class C, 14 to 18 for a campervan, and 10 to 14 for a tow vehicle hauling a travel trailer. New Jersey gas prices typically run close to the national average, and in New Jersey you cannot pump your own fuel, station attendants do it for you, which is a fun surprise for first-time visitors. Prices around Folsom on Route 30 and Route 54 tend to be cheaper than at Atlantic City Expressway service plazas. Pro tip: top off in Folsom or Hammonton before heading deep into the Pine Barrens, where stations get sparse.
nj.gov/oag/newsreleases22/AG-and-DCA-Remind-New-Jerseyans-That-Self-Service-Gasoline-Remains-Illegal-in-State.aspxHow far in advance should I book campgrounds near Folsom, NJ?
For summer weekends, book your campground the moment you book your RV, ideally three to six months ahead. Private parks like Pine Haven and Indian Branch typically book through their own websites and can fill three to four months ahead for holiday weekends. Weeknights and shoulder season (May, September, October) are far more relaxed, often available a week out. Pro tip: set up an availability alert on the NJDEP portal and you will get an email the moment a cancellation opens a site.
njportal.com/DEP/NJOutdoors/Park/Details?locationId=19What are driving conditions like around Folsom, NJ for an RV?
Driving an RV around Folsom is genuinely easy, which is part of why this area is so popular for first-timers. Route 54, Route 30 (the White Horse Pike), and Route 322 are wide, mostly flat, and well-maintained. The Atlantic City Expressway is the main east-west artery and is RV-friendly with generous lanes. Watch for low branches on smaller Pine Barrens roads like Route 542 toward Batsto, and avoid the sandy unpaved forest roads inside Wharton unless you have a small Class B or 4x4. Summer Friday afternoons get heavy with shore-bound traffic, so aim to travel Thursday or before noon Friday. Winter brings occasional snow and ice, so check NJDOT 511 conditions before any December through February trip.
511nj.org/What amenities should I expect at campgrounds near Folsom, NJ?
Campgrounds near Folsom range from full-service resorts to backcountry primitive. Private parks like Pine Haven Campground and Bellhaven Lake Resort offer full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer), Wi-Fi, pools, laundry, and camp stores. Wharton State Forest's Atsion campground has electric and water at some sites, flush toilets, hot showers, and a seasonal dump station open April 1 through October 31. More remote Wharton sites like Godfrey Bridge are primitive with pit toilets and no hookups, perfect for boondockers. Fresh water fill-ups and dump stations are available at Atsion and most private parks for a small fee. Pro tip: confirm 50-amp availability if you booked a larger Class A, as some older sites are 30-amp only.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/wharton-state-forest/What is included inside a typical RV rental in Folsom, NJ?
Most campervan rental and motorhome listings on RVezy in Folsom come stocked and ready to camp. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette and bunk options, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, a bathroom with toilet and shower, AC and furnace, fresh and gray water tanks, propane, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also include a generator, TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and Wi-Fi hotspot. Linens and kitchen kits may be included or offered as add-ons, and the listing page spells it out clearly. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you need specific items like a coffee maker, kid car seats, or a generator strong enough to run AC during a humid South Jersey July.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Folsom%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options are common for Folsom RV rentals?
Hosts in Folsom offer a strong range of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include camp chairs and tables, bedding and towel kits, bike racks, kayak racks, generators, propane fire pits, kid car seats, and Wi-Fi hotspots, typically $10 to $40 each. Many hosts also offer paid dump and refill service so you return the RV ready to go. Pickup is usually at the host's home, but RV delivery in Folsom is widely available and often the smart move if you are headed straight to Atsion or Indian Branch. Mileage allowances vary, with many listings including 100 free miles per night and overage fees around $0.30 to $0.45 per extra mile. Check the listing's add-on section before booking to see exact pricing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Folsom%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Folsom, NJ?
Payment for your RV rental in Folsom is simple, secure, and handled entirely through RVezy, never in cash to the host. You pay your trip total by credit card when you book, and the security deposit is a temporary hold (not a charge) on your card placed shortly before pickup. Deposit amounts vary by RV. As long as you return the RV on time, clean, undamaged, and within the mileage and generator-hour limits in your booking, the hold is released after your trip ends. Pro tip: do a full walk-around video at pickup and dropoff, since timestamped video is the easiest way to avoid any disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I handle cold-weather or winter RV camping near Folsom, NJ?
Winter RV trips around Folsom are absolutely doable and surprisingly peaceful, with the Pine Barrens nearly empty and the Atlantic City skyline glittering across the marshes. Temperatures from December through February average 25°F to 45°F, with occasional dips into the teens, so look for listings tagged as four-season or with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and a working furnace. Pine Haven Campground and a handful of private parks stay open year-round with shore power, while most state park sites close after late October. Message the host to confirm winterization status before booking a cold-weather trip. Pro tip: keep a heated water hose or fill your fresh tank before arrival so you are not fighting frozen lines at 6 a.m.
weather.gov/phi/Where can I legally park or overnight my RV around Folsom, NJ outside a campground?
Where to park an RV in Folsom is mostly a campground question, since most South Jersey municipalities prohibit overnight RV parking on city streets. The good news: New Jersey generally allows overnight rest-area parking for tired drivers along the Atlantic City Expressway and Garden State Parkway service plazas (no slide-outs or awnings, just sleep and go). Private driveways are fine with the owner's permission, and several local Harvest Hosts farms and wineries in the Hammonton area welcome self-contained RVs for a night. For anything longer than a quick rest, book a real site at Atsion, Pine Haven, or Bellhaven Lake. Pro tip: avoid parking overnight at Atlantic City casino lots, as most enforce no-RV rules.
