Campgrounds near Fort Lee, New Jersey
Fort Lee sits at the western foot of the George Washington Bridge, which makes it one of the most convenient jump-off points for RV camping in the New York metro region. Options fan out in three directions: urban waterfront hookups in Jersey City, tent and RV camping on the Brooklyn side of the harbor, and forested state-park sites in the Hudson Highlands and northern New Jersey.
Liberty Harbor RV Park is the closest full-service option, with paved sites and PATH access into Manhattan. Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area offers National Park Service campsites on a former airfield in Brooklyn. To the north and west, Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park sits within Harriman State Park in Rockland County, adjacent to the Lake Welch Recreation Area, with 125 campsites and select sites that can accommodate trailers or RVs up to 30 feet long.
Camp Wyanokie and Wawayanda State Park round out the list with rustic, wooded stays in the New Jersey Highlands, both within roughly an hour's drive of Fort Lee.
Things to do near Fort Lee
The main draw is proximity to Manhattan. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, ferries and the PATH train reach Midtown and the World Trade Center in minutes, and Liberty State Park, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island are all within reach. Fort Lee itself has Palisades Interstate Park, with cliffside trails overlooking the Hudson.
Heading north, Harriman State Park has more than 200 miles of trails ranging from easy to strenuous, 31 lakes, two beaches, and lake activities such as swimming, fishing, paddling, and boating. Lake Welch swimming beach is within walking distance of Beaver Pond, with immediate access to portions of the Appalachian Trail. Wawayanda State Park and Camp Wyanokie add hiking, paddling, and fishing in the northern New Jersey Highlands, and a twenty-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail runs through Wawayanda.

When to visit Fort Lee: seasonal patterns

61° / 43°F 105 mmCampgrounds reopen mid-April; cool nights.
- summer
June - August
82° / 66°F 110 mmPeak season; book weekends well ahead.

- winter
December - February
41° / 27°F 92 mmCold; most state-park campgrounds closed.
Camping season in the region is short and concentrated. State-park campgrounds in the Hudson Highlands generally run spring through mid-fall. Beaver Pond opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only for about two weeks, then runs a regular reservation season from early May through mid-October. Wawayanda State Park operates from April 1 through October 31, and other New Jersey state parks follow a similar window.
Summer is peak. At roughly an hour from New York City, Harriman is a favored weekend getaway, so weekend bookings should be made as far in advance as possible. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day sell out first, and Lake Welch beach draws day-use crowds that push traffic on the Palisades Parkway.
Shoulder months of May, September, and early October offer cooler nights, fewer bugs, and easier reservations. Urban options such as Liberty Harbor operate year-round, though winter brings freezing temperatures and limited outdoor activity.

How to book campgrounds near Fort Lee
Reservation systems vary by campground. New York State Parks, including Beaver Pond, book through Reserve America. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are permitted until 3PM, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only.
New Jersey state parks, including Wawayanda, book online at camping.nj.gov. Floyd Bennett Field campsites are reserved through Recreation.gov. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes bookings directly on its website and by phone; summer weekends and event dates fill early. Camp Wyanokie is reserved directly through its operator.
What to expect at campgrounds near Fort Lee
Facilities range widely. Liberty Harbor offers full hookups and paved sites in an urban setting. State-park campgrounds are more rustic. Beaver Pond provides comfort stations with showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station for RVs, but there are no electrical hookups. Sites are best suited to tent campers and smaller rigs.
RV length limits are a real constraint in this region. Many state-park sites cap out around 30 feet, and access roads can be narrow. Confirm site dimensions before booking a larger motorhome.
Other things to plan for: alcohol is not permitted at Beaver Pond, pets are not permitted at Beaver Pond or Lake Welch, and only one vehicle is permitted at each campsite. Black bears live throughout the Highlands, so food storage rules apply, and deer ticks are common on wooded trails.

Yes, RV delivery Fort Lee is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially because parking a large motorhome in a dense Bergen County neighborhood isn't always practical. Use the Delivery filter when searching to see hosts who offer this service along with their delivery radius and fee. Delivery is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV, since you skip city traffic on the George Washington Bridge and start your trip relaxed at the campground.

If you're planning an RV road trip from Fort Lee through New England, filter for hosts offering unlimited or high-mileage packages to keep your budget predictable.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fort%20Lee,%20New%20JerseyWhere can I stay overnight in an RV near Fort Lee?

Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 20 minutes south) offers full hookups, skyline views, and ferry access to Manhattan. Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY is also a popular full-service option about an hour away. Overnight street parking in Bergen County is not permitted, so book a campground in advance.
libertyharborrv.com/When is the best time of year for RV camping in Fort Lee?
Late April through mid-October is prime time for RV camping Fort Lee, with the sweet spots being May-June and September-October, when daytime highs typically range from the mid-60s to upper 70s F and humidity is lower. July and August are warm (highs commonly in the mid-80s F) and humid but perfect for Jersey Shore runs and Hudson River sunsets. Fall brings excellent foliage in the Palisades and Hudson Valley, typically peaking in mid-to-late October. Winter is quieter but doable with a four-season RV, since overnight lows can dip into the 20s F and snow is possible. Book Memorial Day, July 4th, and Columbus Day weekends 2-3 months ahead, as nearby campgrounds sell out fast.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Is Fort Lee a good place to start?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures so nothing is a mystery. For Fort Lee specifically, consider booking a host who offers delivery so you avoid the George Washington Bridge and dense Bergen County streets on your first drive. You can also message any host through the RVezy listing page before booking to ask about driving the rig, parking, or which campground they recommend nearby. Choose a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer (under 24 feet) for your first Fort Lee RV trip, as they drive much more like a large van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360003652693-Renting-an-RVWhat happens if I break down during my Fort Lee RV trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so one phone call gets help on the way whether you're stuck on the New Jersey Turnpike, the Palisades Interstate Parkway, or deep in the Catskills. Roadside support covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to a service location. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app for questions specific to their RV. Before you leave Fort Lee, snap a photo of the RV's tire pressure stickers and propane shut-off locations so you can troubleshoot quickly if a minor issue comes up on the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Fort Lee RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Fort Lee across state lines is welcomed. You can easily explore New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, and beyond. Cross-border travel to Canada depends on the individual host and the protection plan coverage, so message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection plan does not extend there. Popular cross-state routes from Fort Lee include the Adirondacks (about 5 hours north), the White Mountains in New Hampshire (about 5.5 hours), and Acadia National Park (about 7-8 hours). Bring your passport if Canada is even a maybe.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and you'll keep fuel costs reasonable on your motorhome rental Fort Lee. Class C motorhomes typically average 8-12 MPG, Class A coaches 6-9 MPG, campervans 14-20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (often 10-14 MPG combined). Northern New Jersey gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average, but a quick tip: fill up in New Jersey rather than New York when possible, since NJ gas is usually cheaper per gallon, and by state law attendants pump it for you. Budget roughly $0.30-$0.45 per mile for fuel in a Class C, and use a fuel-price app to map cheaper stations along I-80 or the Garden State Parkway.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Fort Lee?
For the best campgrounds near Fort Lee, book early: the NYC metro region has high demand and limited inventory. New Jersey state park campgrounds (like Stokes State Forest and Worthington) take reservations through ReserveAmerica and summer weekends often fill quickly when the booking window opens. New York state parks like Harriman also use ReserveAmerica, with reservations available several months in advance. Private parks like Liberty Harbor RV Park and Black Bear Campground take direct reservations and book up 2-3 months ahead for peak season. If you strike out on weekends, Sunday-through-Thursday stays at NJ state parks are typically wide open even in July and offer a quieter experience.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like in and around Fort Lee?
Driving an RV around Fort Lee is very doable with a little planning. Fort Lee sits at the western anchor of the George Washington Bridge, which means I-95 traffic can be heavy between 6-10 AM and 3-7 PM, so aim to depart mid-morning or late evening. Avoid driving tall RVs on parkways like the Palisades Interstate Parkway and Garden State Parkway, which restrict commercial and large vehicles; instead use I-95, I-80, and Route 17. Watch for low clearances on older bridges in northern NJ (some under 11 feet). Many Fort Lee hosts offer delivery specifically to skip the GWB headache, so your first drive can be from a quiet suburban campground instead.
state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/roads/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Fort Lee?
Campgrounds in the Fort Lee region are well-equipped for a comfortable trip. Private parks like Liberty Harbor RV Park and Black Bear Campground offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and on-site dump stations. New Jersey state park campgrounds (Stokes State Forest, Worthington) typically offer electric and water hookups at many sites, plus centralized dump stations and potable water fills, though Wi-Fi is rare and cell service can be spotty in wooded areas. Most campgrounds have fire rings, picnic tables, and bathhouses. If you need to dump tanks on your way back to Fort Lee, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is a convenient stop before returning your RV.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/What features and amenities come with a typical Fort Lee RV rental?
Most Fort Lee RV rentals come ready for adventure. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 4-8 depending on size, climate control, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone riding. Class C motorhomes and campervans usually include a generator or solar setup, and many also have a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor awning. Wi-Fi is hit-or-miss, so most renters use a phone hotspot. Hosts often offer add-ons like bedding kits, kitchen kits, camp chairs, bikes, and portable grills (typically $25-$75 each). When comparing campervan rental Fort Lee listings, review each listing's amenities section and host reviews to confirm what's included.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fort%20Lee,%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I expect?
RVezy hosts in Fort Lee make pickup straightforward. Most pickups happen at the host's home or a nearby agreed-upon location, with a 30-60 minute orientation where you'll learn every system hands-on. Popular add-ons include linens and towels ($25-$50), kitchen kits ($25-$40), generator hours (often $3-$5/hour past the included allotment), bike racks, camp chairs, and portable propane grills. Mileage policies vary by host: some include 100 miles/day with $0.30-$0.45 per extra mile, while others offer unlimited mileage packages, all displayed clearly on the listing. Confirm pickup and drop-off times when you book, since Fort Lee traffic patterns mean an earlier mid-morning pickup can help you get out before the worst GWB congestion.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Fort%20Lee,%20New%20JerseyHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Fort Lee on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically several hundred to a couple of thousand dollars depending on the RV) before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. Choosing a higher protection plan level during checkout can reduce your out-of-pocket exposure. Take thorough timestamped walk-around photos and video at both pickup and drop-off: it's the single best way to ensure your security deposit is returned quickly and to avoid disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Fort Lee?
Fort Lee is one of the best launchpads on the East Coast for an RV road trip from Fort Lee. Head about 2 hours west to the Pocono Mountains for lakes and waterfalls; 2-2.5 hours north into the Catskills for hiking and craft breweries around Phoenicia; about 3 hours south to Cape May for Victorian beaches and birdwatching; about 4 hours up to Lake George and the Adirondack foothills; or about 5-6 hours north to the White Mountains of New Hampshire for the Kancamagus Highway. Closer in, Harriman State Park is roughly an hour away. Leave Fort Lee on a Thursday evening to beat the Friday-afternoon exodus on I-80 and I-87 and arrive at camp before sunset.
