Campgrounds and RV parks near Gillette, NJ

Gillette is an unincorporated community in Long Hill Township, Morris County, roughly 30 miles west of New York City. It sits within the Passaic River basin at the eastern edge of New Jersey's Skylands region, which puts a mix of private RV resorts and state park campgrounds within an easy drive. Renters typically use Gillette as a base for the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, the Watchung Reservation, and the Highlands to the northwest. Closer-in options include Fla-Net Park and Goodland Country Club and Spa. For a full-service resort experience about an hour northwest in Andover, Panther Lake Camping Resort sits on 160 wooded acres around a 45-acre lake about 50 miles from New York City. Public-land options include Stephens State Park in Hackettstown, with campsites along the scenic Musconetcong River, and Camp Wyanokie, a rustic tent-only preserve in West Milford that does not accommodate RVs. This stretch of North Jersey is popular with metro-area campers, so weekend availability tightens quickly from late spring through early fall.

State park sites are booked through the New Jersey State Park Service reservation portal at camping.nj.gov. Stephens State Park has 39 tent and small trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables, and flush toilets and showers within walking distance, with a listed maximum RV length of 40 feet. Check-in is at the park office, which keeps limited hours, so confirm arrival times before travel. Private resorts handle bookings directly. Panther Lake Camping Resort takes reservations by phone or through its website. Camp Wyanokie has no customer service phone number and no on-site staff; all reservations are made through its website. Holiday weekends and July and August weekends should be booked several weeks out at both public and private sites.
