Camping near Glen Gardner, New Jersey
Glen Gardner sits in the wooded hills of northern Hunterdon County, roughly halfway between the Newark metro area and the Pennsylvania border along the Interstate 78 corridor. The area is anchored by two New Jersey state park facilities within a short drive: Voorhees State Park in Lebanon Township, operated by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, and Spruce Run Recreation Area, surrounded by the rolling hills of Hunterdon County and built around a 1,290-acre reservoir with 15 miles of shoreline.
RV renters have a mix of options. The two state parks provide traditional wooded family camping with basic facilities, while private grounds like Mountainview Campground and Goodland Country Club and Spa cater to trailers and motorhomes with more amenities. For riverfront camping, Driftstone on the Delaware sits about an hour west across the Delaware River in Pennsylvania and is a common destination for renters based in this part of New Jersey.
The region works well for weekend trips from the New York and Philadelphia metros, with reservoir boating, Delaware River paddling, and quiet forest hiking all within easy driving distance.
Things to do near Glen Gardner
Water recreation is the main draw at Spruce Run Recreation Area. The reservoir holds largemouth bass, catfish, sunfish, yellow perch and carp, and is stocked with trout, northern pike and hybrid bass by the NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife. All watercraft must launch from the boat launch area, which has a cartop launch and a trailer launch with ramps and docks. The reservoir swim area is currently closed due to recurring harmful algal blooms, so visitors should check the park website before planning to swim.
Voorhees State Park is oriented toward hiking, biking, and stargazing. The park has eleven multi-use trails that traverse 9 miles through deciduous forest, CCC pine plantations and alongside the Willoughby Brook. In 1965, the New Jersey Astronomical Association built an observatory on land leased from the state, featuring a 26-inch Newtonian reflector telescope, one of the largest privately owned telescopes in New Jersey, with year-round public sky-watch programs.
Further afield, Driftstone on the Delaware provides direct river access for tubing, kayaking, and canoeing along a quiet stretch of the Delaware.

The New Jersey state park camping season is tightly bounded. Spruce Run offers 67 tent and trailer sites and three shelters from April 1 through October 31, and Voorhees family campsites, shelters and group campsites are available from April 1 through October 31, administered by Spruce Run Recreation Area. Outside those dates, state park camping in the area is closed, so RV renters targeting late fall or winter should look at private grounds or plan day trips only.
Spring and fall are the mildest windows for camping, with cooler nights but low bug pressure and good foliage in October. Summer brings the heaviest bookings, with weekends filling well in advance. Note that the Spruce Run swim area has been closed due to harmful algal blooms, so boating and fishing carry more of the summer draw than swimming.
Winter is cold and often snowy in Hunterdon County. Visitors go sledding, cross-country skiing, ice fishing and ice sailing at Spruce Run during winter, though ice skating is not permitted. At Driftstone, a one-week minimum applies to Riverbank sites from late June through Labor Day.

How to book campgrounds in the area
New Jersey state park sites use a single online reservation system. All advance camping reservations must be made online at camping.nj.gov. Same-day reservations can be made online until 2:00 p.m., and walk-in reservations are accepted if space is available; call the park office or check the campground's availability view tab online the morning of arrival to confirm. Voorhees reservations also go through camping.nj.gov, with questions handled by the Spruce Run Park Office at 908-638-8572.
Private campgrounds set their own rules. Driftstone on the Delaware takes reservations in person or by calling 888.355.6859, with the office open Sunday through Thursday 8 AM to 9 PM and Friday and Saturday 8 AM to 10 PM, and does not offer online booking. For summer weekends and holidays, book state park sites several weeks out and private grounds even earlier.
What to expect on site
State park camping in this area is rustic. The Spruce Run campground is open from April 1 through October 31, has 67 sites, and each level site has a picnic table, outdoor grill, and fire ring. Spruce Run has 7 trailer-only campsites with water and electric (30/50) hook-ups with a sanitary dump station available within the campground. They are campsites 1-4 and 55-57. Pets and alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the campground.
Voorhees is similar in style. Within Voorhees State Park, this Division of Parks and Forestry campground operates seasonally from April through October. The facility accommodates RVs up to 36 feet with electric and water hookups, plus a dump station for self-contained units.
Private options offer more amenities. Driftstone provides spacious sites for tents, pop-ups, trailers, and motorhomes, including pull-through options. All of the campsites include electric and water hook-ups. Most of the campsites include 50/30/20 amp electric, water and cable television. Sewer hook-ups not available. A dump station, swimming pool, playground, laundry, and Wi-Fi round out the amenities.

A standard New Jersey Class D driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or home-country license) is all you need to rent an RV in Glen Gardner. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission does not require a Commercial Driver License or special endorsement for personal recreational use, even for larger Class A motorhomes. To book on RVezy, the primary driver generally needs to be at least 25 years old, and ID verification is handled inside the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so your Glen Gardner RV trip starts with built-in peace of mind. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, and some hosts offer free delivery within a set radius. Use the Delivery filter when browsing listings. Late April through mid-October is prime time for your Glen Gardner RV trip, but the local secret is autumn. September and early October bring 60 to 75 degree days, crisp nights, and Hunterdon County foliage along the Musconetcong and Raritan rivers turning gold and crimson. Summer (June through August) averages 80 to 88 degrees and is perfect for Spruce Run swimming, while spring (mid-April to late May) brings mountain laurel blooms and lower campsite prices. Winter rentals are limited but possible, and several hosts offer four-season rigs with heated tanks. Tip: book a late-September trip to combine peak foliage with sweater-weather campfires and fewer mosquitoes.
weather.gov/phi/I have never driven an RV before, will I be okay?
You will be fine, first time renting an RV from Glen Gardner is easier than most people expect. Glen Gardner's quiet country roads (like Route 513 toward High Bridge) are great for getting comfortable before you hit Interstate 78. If you would rather not drive at all, choose a host who offers delivery and skip the wheel altogether. Tip: start with a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for your first trip, they handle much like a large van and most renters feel confident within 30 minutes.

Your host is also a great first call for quick troubleshooting questions (like resetting the inverter or finding propane refills in nearby Hampton or Clinton). Tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave, and take a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you can share info instantly if you need help.

Gas prices in Hunterdon County are usually close to the national average at stations like Wawa, QuickChek, and Costco in Bridgewater. For a 300-mile weekend loop to the Delaware Water Gap and back in a Class C, expect roughly $80 to $130 in fuel depending on prices. For New Jersey state parks like Spruce Run, Voorhees, and Round Valley, book as early as possible. Watch for low railroad bridges in High Bridge (some clearances under 12 feet), and avoid narrow back roads in larger rigs. Winter (December through March) can bring snow and ice on hilly stretches like Schooley's Mountain Road. Tip: plan to clear the Pocono passes before late afternoon when traffic backs up at the Delaware River bridges, and review your route for low-clearance bridges before you leave.

Potable water and dump stations are available at most New Jersey state parks for registered campers. Tip: pack a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 30-to-50-amp adapter, and a sewer hose support, your host usually provides the basics but bringing your own backups means zero scrambling on arrival day.

Many rigs include a TV, and many hosts offer WiFi hotspots, generators, or solar as add-ons. Kitchen kits, bedding, and outdoor chairs are commonly included or available as inexpensive add-ons. Tip: check the listing's amenity list carefully and message the host with any must-haves like a coffee maker, blackout shades, or a backup camera.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Glen%20Gardner%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure, RVezy processes everything through the platform with major credit cards (no cash or off-platform payments). You pay your rental total through the booking flow, and a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) is pre-authorized on your card a few days before pickup. The hold is released after a damage-free return. To avoid deposit issues, complete the pickup and return walkthrough with your host, document the RV's condition with photos and video, return the rig with the agreed fuel and propane levels, and empty the holding tanks if your host requires it. Tip: keep receipts for fuel and propane fills in case of any post-trip questions.
