Camping near Haddon Heights, New Jersey
Haddon Heights is a small borough in Camden County, roughly ten miles southeast of Philadelphia and within an hour's drive of the Jersey Shore. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring the Delaware Valley, the New Jersey Pinelands, and historic sites on both sides of the Delaware River. The area sits within easy reach of Wharton State Forest, part of the extensive New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve, a region of oak-pine forests, wetlands, and historical villages such as the 18th-century bog iron and glass site of Batsto Village.
Most campgrounds sit fifteen to forty minutes south or southwest of the borough, in the farm country and pine-flat corridors of Gloucester, Salem, and Gloucester-adjacent Camden County. Options span both wooded state forests and developed private RV parks within about a 20-mile radius, with lowland pine barrens and sandy soil to the east and rolling farmland to the west. Private parks in this cluster include Lake Kandle, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday, Old Cedar Campground, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey, and Four Seasons Campgrounds.
Things to do near Haddon Heights
On-site recreation at the nearby private parks leans family-focused. Lake Kandle operates as a private campground with electric hookups and both drive-in and walk-in site access, and the facility centers around a lake that provides fishing opportunities and features a swing, plus two swimming pools for campers. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: South Jersey offers access to a lake and obstacle course, swimming pools, jumping pillows, playground, sports courts, arcade, and more. Four Seasons Campgrounds and Old Cedar Campground add pools, mini-golf, stocked fishing lakes, and weekend activities.
Off-site, day trips are short. Haddon Lake Park in the borough itself has a trail ringing the lake and picnic tables. Red Bank Battlefield Park in nearby National Park covers Revolutionary War history. Philadelphia's museums and the Camden waterfront, including Adventure Aquarium and Battleship New Jersey, are within a short drive, and Wharton State Forest offers paddling and hiking in the Pinelands.

Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

Booking and reservations in Haddon Heights
Private campgrounds in the Haddon Heights area take direct reservations through their own websites or by phone; there is no unified state or federal reservation portal for this cluster, because the closest options are all privately owned. Deposits, weekend minimums, and holiday minimums are standard. A minimum stay of two nights is required at Lake Kandle, and three nights on holidays.
Seasonal camping dominates several of these parks, which reduces short-stay inventory in summer. Lake Kandle has noted that due to a strong demand for seasonal camping, sites may not be available on a nightly basis, with weekly or monthly availability opening after Memorial Day weekend. Book transient RV sites well ahead for June through August weekends.
For state-forest camping in the wider region, including Wharton, Bass River, and Belleplain, reservations are handled through the New Jersey State Park Service reservation system online.
What to expect at Haddon Heights campgrounds
Expect suburban and rural surroundings rather than backcountry. Sites in this cluster are typically graveled or grassy pads under mixed pine and hardwood cover, with 30 and 50-amp service, water, and sewer at most private parks. Lake Kandle offers restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and a dump station, prohibits pets and alcohol, and a snack stand provides food options since no camp store operates on-site.
Policies vary widely by park. Lake Kandle is strictly for RV, motorhome, and pop-up camping, with absolutely no tent camping permitted on premises. Others in the cluster accept tents and rent cabins. Cell coverage is generally strong given the proximity to Philadelphia, and grocery, fuel, and RV supply stops are close.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall in the Pinelands; pack repellent and check for ticks after hikes.

Great news: your regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Haddon Heights. New Jersey does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RV use, even for larger Class A motorhomes, as long as the vehicle is for recreational travel. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll verify your ID through the platform during checkout. Visiting from abroad? Booking is low-risk. RVezy has its own standard cancellation policy that applies to every reservation, including a grace period right after booking. newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Haddon Heights, NJ?
Late April through mid-October is your sweet spot. South Jersey's climate brings warm, humid summers (highs in the mid-80s F in July and August) and crisp, colorful falls (60s F in October). May, June, and September are ideal: lower humidity, mild evenings in the 50s to 60s F, and lighter campground crowds. Winter motorhome rental Haddon Heights trips are doable too, since several hosts list four-season RVs with heated tanks for Pine Barrens getaways. Pro tip: plan early-season trips around local spring events in Haddon Heights and nearby Collingswood for a fun reason to hit the road before peak shore season.
weather.gov/phi/I have never rented an RV before. Is renting in Haddon Heights beginner-friendly?
You are going to be just fine. First time renting an RV is one of the most common reasons people choose RVezy, and every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to level the rig, run the generator, dump tanks, hook up shore power, and operate the awning. From Haddon Heights you can start small with a Class B campervan rental Haddon Heights option, perfect for a Cape May weekend, before working up to a 28-foot Class C. Hosts answer messages quickly, and RVezy support is available to help when you need it. Pro tip: do a short shakedown trip to Atsion Lake (about 45 minutes away) before tackling a longer haul, you will feel like a pro by night two.

You are never stranded. Every Haddon Heights RV rental includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. If something goes sideways on the AC Expressway or deep in the Pine Barrens, one call gets help dispatched. Your host is also a direct resource for quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy support is reachable through the app. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's tire pressures and dashboard at pickup, and save your host's number plus the roadside hotline in your phone before you pull out of the driveway. Peace of mind, locked in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Haddon Heights RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes to U.S. interstate travel, and often yes to Canada with host approval. All 50 states are fair game on a standard RVezy rental. Heading to Canada? Message the host first since insurance must be confirmed for cross-border travel. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: print your rental agreement and protection plan details before crossing into Canada, border agents may ask.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Haddon Heights?
Easier to estimate than you'd think. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 14 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). New Jersey gas prices typically run about $3.20 to $3.60 per gallon, and remember, NJ is a full-service state, so an attendant pumps your fuel. A round trip from Haddon Heights to Cape May (about 180 miles) in a Class C will run roughly $55 to $75 in gas. Pro tip: fill up in New Jersey before crossing into Pennsylvania or Delaware, which sometimes have higher diesel prices near I-95.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Haddon Heights?
Earlier is better, especially for summer. For New Jersey state park campgrounds like Bass River, Belleplain, and Wharton State Forest, reservations open well in advance through the state's ReserveAmerica system, and prime summer weekends sell out within weeks of opening. Private parks like Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA Holiday take bookings up to a year out. For shoulder-season trips in May, September, or October, 2 to 4 weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: if you strike out on weekends, try a Sunday-through-Thursday stay, you will often snag lakefront sites that book up instantly on Fridays. Atsion Family Campground is also great for last-minute Pine Barrens getaways.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Haddon Heights and South Jersey?
Mostly very RV-friendly. Haddon Heights sits just off Route 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike, both wide, flat, and built for big rigs. A few local notes: the Ben Franklin Bridge and Walt Whitman Bridge into Philadelphia carry tolls and are fine for standard RVs. Avoid narrow side streets in nearby Collingswood and Haddonfield during rush hour, and note that house trailers and certain towed setups are restricted on the Garden State Parkway. Summer thunderstorms can pop up fast in July and August. Pro tip: leave for the Jersey Shore before 9 a.m. on Fridays to dodge the bumper-to-bumper crawl on the Atlantic City Expressway.
state.nj.us/turnpike/What amenities do campgrounds near Haddon Heights offer?
You will find solid infrastructure across the region. Most private RV parks like Clarksboro KOA and Timberlane offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, dump stations, pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. New Jersey state park campgrounds (Wharton, Bass River, Belleplain) are more rustic, with potable water fill stations and dump stations but limited or no hookups, ideal if your RV has solar or a generator. Many South Jersey wineries also welcome overnight RV parking through the Harvest Hosts program. Pro tip: confirm hookup type (30 vs 50 amp) with your host before booking so you know whether you need a dogbone adapter for older campground pedestals.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/What equipment and features come standard in a Haddon Heights RV rental?

Pickup and drop-off in Haddon Heights typically happens at the host's home, with delivery available to local campgrounds, Philadelphia International Airport, or your driveway. Pro tip: bundle linens and a dump-out service when you book, your post-trip self will thank you when you are unpacking at midnight.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Haddon%20Heights%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Haddon Heights?
Simple and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps every transaction protected. A security deposit is pre-authorized (held, not charged) on your card before pickup and released after the trip, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and again at drop-off. Pro tip: keep receipts for any fuel or propane fill-ups and message them to your host through the app, it creates a clean paper trail and makes deposit release fast and friction-free.
