Camping near Haddonfield, New Jersey

Haddonfield sits in Camden County, just east of the Delaware River and roughly 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. The surrounding region gives RV travelers a useful mix of two camping styles: private, amenity-heavy resorts in the suburban and farmland corridors of Gloucester and Camden counties, and rustic state-forest sites in the Pine Barrens to the east. Within about 30 to 60 minutes of town, travelers can reach Lake Kandle in Sewell, Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday west of the city, Old Cedar Campground in Monroeville, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: South Jersey in Williamstown. Farther east in Wharton State Forest, Atsion Recreational Area offers fifty tent and trailer sites with fire rings and picnic tables, with potable water, flush toilets and showers within walking distance. The area works well as a base for day trips into Philadelphia, the Jersey Shore, and Atlantic City, with most private parks running spring into late fall.

Things to do near Haddonfield

Downtown Haddonfield itself is a walkable historic district with shops, restaurants, and the Hadrosaurus foulkii dinosaur discovery site. From a campsite, most itineraries pair local exploring with Philadelphia day trips: Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia Zoo, and the waterfront in Camden. Family-focused parks stack their own activities. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: South Jersey in Williamstown features swimming pools and lake fun, jumping pillows, gem mining, and organized games and activities, while Lake Kandle offers a spring-fed swim lake and pool. In the Pine Barrens, Wharton State Forest offers a variety of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, plus rivers and lakes for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, and swimming in Atsion Lake is permitted in the summer when lifeguards are present, and nearby Batsto Village preserves a 19th-century iron and glass community.

Most private campgrounds in the Haddonfield area run a spring-through-fall season. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: South Jersey generally operates from mid-April into early November, and Lake Kandle's campground opens on the last Friday of April and closes on the first Sunday of October. Old Cedar Campground and the Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday also operate on a warm-season schedule. Summer is the busiest window. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill fastest, especially at family resorts with pools, jumping pillows, and themed events. Booking six to eight weeks ahead is realistic for July and August weekends, and holiday weekends can require booking many months out. Spring and fall bring milder temperatures, thinner crowds, and easier availability. In Wharton State Forest, the Atsion trailer sanitary station is open April 1 through October 31, while campsites are open year-round, so shoulder-season and winter RV stays require planning for services.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We would happily use RV Cozy Camper again for future trips!

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

How to book near Haddonfield

Private campgrounds in the area use their own reservation systems. The Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday books through the KOA website or by phone, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: South Jersey uses the operator's website and Campspot platform, and Lake Kandle and Old Cedar Campground take reservations directly through their own websites or by calling the office. Atsion Recreational Area and other Wharton State Forest sites are handled by the New Jersey State Park Service. Online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov, and Atsion Campground requires a minimum stay of two nights, with reservations available both online and in person. For summer weekends, holiday weekends, and any cabin stays, reserve well in advance. Check each park's cancellation policy before booking, since deposit and refund rules vary between private operators and the state system.

What to expect near Haddonfield

Site quality and amenities vary widely. The Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park: South Jersey are full-service parks with pull-through sites, 30 and 50-amp hookups, pools, and camp stores. Old Cedar Campground and Lake Kandle lean family and community oriented, with pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities; note that Lake Kandle does not accept tents or pets. Atsion Recreational Area is a different experience: rustic, wooded, and quiet. The RV sites are small and can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 22 feet in length, each site has a fire ring and a picnic table, and while there are no hookups, there is a dump station onsite. Cell service remains limited but manageable for most users, so download maps and reservations before arriving.
