Campgrounds and RV parks near Haworth, NJ

Trip planning from Haworth splits naturally between city access and outdoor recreation. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, travelers can reach Manhattan by PATH train or ferry, with Liberty State Park, the Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island nearby. Floyd Bennett Field sits on the Jamaica Bay shoreline within Gateway National Recreation Area, with trails, a kayak launch, archery, and salt-marsh birding along the Atlantic flyway. Outdoor itineraries head north to Harriman State Park for swimming at Lake Welch, hiking, and access to over 200 miles of trails. Wawayanda State Park features more than 60 miles of marked trails, including a roughly 20-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, plus fishing and paddling on Wawayanda Lake. Camp Wyanokie offers hiking adjacent to Norvin Green State Forest.

The camping calendar in this region is heavily seasonal. State and federal campgrounds in the New York and New Jersey Highlands run from spring through fall. Wawayanda State Park is open April 1 through October 31, and Floyd Bennett Field operates on a seasonal basis, typically from late spring through October, with status varying year to year. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City operates year-round, making it the practical winter choice for RV travelers visiting the metro area. Spring brings cool nights, leaf-out, and rising water levels, with the Appalachian Trail and Highlands lakes most active. Summer is the peak booking window, with hot, humid weather, lake swimming, and heavy weekend demand at Beaver Pond and Wawayanda. Early fall delivers the most reliable camping weather: lower humidity, foliage color in October, and easier reservations midweek. Late fall brings frost in the Highlands and the closure of most state-park campgrounds by the end of October. Winter camping in the region is largely limited to urban RV parks.

Site styles vary widely. Liberty Harbor offers water and electric sites with a dump station, restrooms with hot showers, a laundry room, Wi-Fi, and views toward the New York skyline, the Statue of Liberty, and Liberty State Park. Beaver Pond is more primitive: there are no electrical hookups for trailers, alcohol is not permitted, and pets are not allowed, though comfort stations, showers, laundry, and a dumping station are on site, with a swimming beach at adjacent Lake Welch when lifeguards are on duty. Floyd Bennett Field offers tent and RV sites on a converted airfield, with seasonal showers, flush toilets, and a dump station. Camp Wyanokie is rustic and not suited to RVs, with basic amenities including fire pits and pit toilets.
