Campgrounds and RV parks near Helmetta, NJ

Helmetta is a small borough in Middlesex County, in the heart of central New Jersey's Raritan Valley, with Manalapan Brook running through the community. The town sits within easy driving distance of state forest land, the Jersey Shore, and Six Flags Great Adventure, which makes it a practical base for RV travellers touring the central part of the state. Campgrounds in the surrounding counties range from a large county-run park to family-owned private RV resorts. Turkey Swamp Park, operated by the Monmouth County Park System in nearby Freehold Township, is the closest public campground and covers thousands of wooded acres within the northernmost fringes of the Pine Barrens. Private options such as Pine Cone Campgrounds, Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort, Timberland Lake Campground, and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground add full-hookup sites, cabins, and pools within roughly a half-hour drive. Most parks combine wooded sites with modern bathhouses, laundry, and dump stations, so renters in Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, or camper vans can plan trips without hunting for services.

For Turkey Swamp Park, reservations can be made at the campground office or by calling 732-462-7286, and they are accepted after January 1st for that year. Of the 64 wooded family sites, 52 are reservable with a prepaid fee for at least two nights, while the other 12 sites are held for first-come, first-served arrivals. Reservations require a two-night minimum on Friday and Saturday, but one-night stays are allowed Sunday through Thursday. Private parks including Pine Cone Campgrounds, Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort, Timberland Lake Campground, and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground take bookings directly through their websites or by phone. For summer holiday weekends and Six Flags event weekends, booking several weeks or months ahead is recommended.
