Campgrounds near Highland Park, New Jersey
Highland Park sits in Middlesex County along the Raritan River, directly across from New Brunswick and roughly an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia. RV travelers use it as a base for reaching central New Jersey campgrounds clustered around Freehold, Jackson, and Cream Ridge, most within a 30 to 50 minute drive south on I-195 or Route 9.
The closest developed campground is Turkey Swamp Park, a Monmouth County Park System property in Freehold Township with wooded, pull-through sites for tents and travel trailers. Private options in the surrounding area include Pine Cone Campgrounds in Freehold, Timberland Lake Campground and Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground in Jackson, and Crystal Springs Wilderness Lodges and RV Resort in Cream Ridge.
Most of these sit within a short drive of Six Flags Great Adventure, Jersey Shore beaches at Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights, and the northern edge of the Pine Barrens, making the region well suited to family RV trips that mix parks, coast, and amusement attractions.
Things to do near Highland Park
Turkey Swamp Park anchors the outdoor options south of Highland Park. The park has 4 playgrounds, a 17-acre lake for boating and fishing with boats available for rental, 8 miles of trails, open playfields, and large-group picnic facilities for rent. Visitors with a New Jersey fishing license can try for the bass and panfish that stock the lake.
Families staying at Timberland Lake, Indian Rock, or Crystal Springs are within a short drive of Six Flags Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor, and Wild Safari. Indian Rock is roughly 20 miles from Seaside Heights, Belmar, or Point Pleasant beaches, with wineries, u-pick farms, and Adventure Crossing also nearby. Rutgers University, the Raritan River towpath, and historic Freehold add rainy-day and cultural options closer to Highland Park itself.

Central New Jersey has a full four-season climate, and campground calendars reflect that. The family campground at Turkey Swamp Park is open from April 1 through November 15, which is a common pattern for county and state-run sites in the region. Private parks including Pine Cone and Indian Rock stay open through most of the year, though winter amenities are limited. Indian Rock is open year round with limited winter facilities and amenities.
Summer is peak season. Pools, hayrides, and themed weekends run from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and holiday weekends fill early. At Indian Rock, the pool is open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weekend and holiday activities at Turkey Swamp Park are offered on site from May through September.
Spring and early fall bring cooler nights, thinner crowds, and better site availability. Late September and October are strong for foliage in the Pine Barrens fringe, while March and April can still see freezing overnight lows.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

Kimmy T. - Oct 2026
Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book campgrounds near Highland Park
Reservation systems vary by operator. For Turkey Swamp Park, book through the Monmouth County Park System. Reservations are available online or by calling the Campground office at 732-462-7286 after 12 p.m. daily, and full payment is required at the time the reservation is made. There are 64 wooded family campsites: 52 are reservable with a prepaid fee for at least 2 nights, the other 12 sites are first-come, first-served. Reservations require a two-night minimum on weekends (Fri and Sat), but you can make a one-night reservation Sun through Thur. Reservations will be accepted after January 1st for that year.
Private campgrounds generally take direct phone or website bookings. Reservations are recommended at Indian Rock RV Resort and Campground, with daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal stays available. For summer weekends and any stay overlapping Six Flags peak dates, book eight to twelve weeks ahead.
What to expect at campgrounds near Highland Park
Most sites in this area are wooded, level, and set up for both tents and RVs. The 64 pull-through campsites at Turkey Swamp can accommodate tent campers, travel trailers and motor homes up to 40 feet with up to 6 people, and the campground offers electrical service, water service, drinking water, modern restrooms with hot showers and laundry, and a self-serve sanitary dump station. Full-hookup sites with sewer are more common at the private parks. Indian Rock sits on nearly 30 acres of shaded land with pine and oak trees, offers water and electric hookups with most sites also equipped with sewer connections, and sites measure approximately 35 by 50 feet.
Expect standard bathhouses, laundry, camp stores, and family-oriented amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and mini-golf. An overabundance of white-tailed deer in and around Turkey Swamp Park is threatening native plant and animal species, and portions of the park may be open for deer hunting during some or all of the state-regulated hunting seasons, with all hunting areas clearly posted. Ticks are a real concern in wooded areas from spring through fall, so pack repellent and check daily.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Highland%20Park%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Highland Park, New Jersey?
Good news: a standard New Jersey driver's license (or any valid US or Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Highland Park. The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, including large Class A motorhomes. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and the platform handles ID verification digitally before your trip. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club along with your home license. That's it, you're ready to hit the Garden State Parkway.

Yes, every RV rental in Highland Park booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can relax and enjoy the trip. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the vehicle during your rental, and you choose the coverage level that fits your comfort during checkout, not the host. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it provides real financial peace of mind whether you are cruising down Route 1 or parked at Cheesequake State Park. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully on the booking page and pick the one that matches how adventurous your itinerary looks.

Booking is low-risk. RVezy has a clear cancellation policy that includes a full money-back grace period right after you book, giving you time to finalize plans without stress. After that window, refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel. The policy is set by RVezy, not individual hosts, so you get the same fair treatment whether you rent a campervan in Highland Park or a Class C up in Edison. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. Pro tip: travel insurance is a smart add-on if your trip is months away or tied to a non-refundable event like a Rutgers graduation.
