Campgrounds near Hoboken

Hoboken sits on the Hudson River across from Manhattan, and RV options within a short drive fall into two categories: one urban park with full hookups on the Jersey City waterfront, and a ring of state and national park campgrounds within roughly an hour's drive in New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City operates year round and is the closest option for RV travelers focused on New York City sightseeing. For a more traditional camping experience, Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park lies roughly an hour north, Floyd Bennett Field sits across the harbor in Brooklyn's Gateway National Recreation Area, and Allaire State Park is about an hour south in Monmouth County. Camp Wyanokie in the northern New Jersey highlands rounds out the mix with rustic, primitive tent camping. Together these properties cover urban basecamps, family state park sites near lakes and beaches, and backcountry-style stays within reasonable driving range of Hoboken.

Things to do near Hoboken

From a Jersey City or Hoboken basecamp, Manhattan is a short PATH train ride away, putting midtown and the World Trade Center roughly 15 minutes from the waterfront. Liberty State Park, the Statue of Liberty ferry, and Ellis Island are all within walking or short-drive distance. Harriman State Park adds a very different day. Lake Welch swimming beach is within walking distance of Beaver Pond Campground, with immediate access to Harriman's extensive network of hiking trails, including portions of the Appalachian Trail. At Floyd Bennett Field, families get bay access, historic hangars, and bike paths inside NYC limits, plus an outdoor archery range open to registered campers. Allaire State Park pairs Manasquan River fishing with the 19th-century Allaire Village and the narrow-gauge Pine Creek Railroad.

The camping season around Hoboken is shaped by state and federal park calendars. Beaver Pond in Harriman opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only for a short window, with the regular reservation season running from early May through mid-October. Allaire State Park's campground is normally open year round, though the trailer sanitary station is closed mid-October to mid-April. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City operates year round. Summer is peak season. Weekends fill quickly at state and national park sites, and Beaver Pond in particular draws heavy weekend traffic given its proximity to New York City. Before and after swimming season, events at Lake Welch may feature amplified music that can start as early as 7:00 AM and continue through the day, so shoulder-season stays are quieter but not always silent. Spring and fall bring mild temperatures, lower bug pressure, and better site availability. Winter camping is limited to Liberty Harbor and Allaire's year-round loop; expect cold, snow, and reduced services.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

This camper van is great and super well designed. Thoughtful useful of space and has everything you’d need. Marc is also very responsive

Kimmy T. - Oct 2026

Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

How to book campgrounds near Hoboken

Beaver Pond and other New York state park sites use ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance, and same-day online reservations are permitted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites. New Jersey state parks, including Allaire, use the state's own portal at camping.nj.gov, with online reservations available up to 11 months in advance. Campsites and shelters book up fast for summer and holiday weekends, so booking at least three months out is recommended. Floyd Bennett Field (Camp Gateway Brooklyn) is booked through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance. Liberty Harbor RV Park is booked directly through its own website or by phone, and Camp Wyanokie is managed through its operator rather than a state or federal portal.

What to expect at campgrounds near Hoboken

Liberty Harbor is an urban RV park, not a wooded campground. It offers 30A/50A electric and water hookups, restrooms, showers, laundry, and easy NYC access, with a marina setting and city noise nearby. Big rigs should be aware that access on the surrounding streets can be tight. Beaver Pond has real trade-offs to plan around. The campground has 125 sites for up to two tents and six people per site, with select sites able to handle trailers or RVs up to 30 feet, but there are no electrical hookups. Pets are not permitted at Beaver Pond or Lake Welch, and alcohol is prohibited. At Allaire, tent and trailer camping is available with no hookups, and reservations are required. Floyd Bennett Field is rustic with limited restroom hours, and black bears are present in the Harriman and Wyanokie areas, so food storage rules apply.
