Camping near Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey
Lake Hiawatha sits in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township in Morris County, placing RV travelers within an hour of the New Jersey Highlands, the Skylands region, and the Manhattan waterfront. The area works well as a base for trips that mix state-forest hiking with day trips into New York City.
Options range from full-service resorts to rustic tent-only sites. Panther Lake Camping Resort occupies wooded acreage around a private lake and supports swimming, boating, and fishing. Fla-Net Park in Flanders offers electric, water, and sewer hookups, pull-through sites for larger RVs, plus a pool, playground, laundry, and dump station. Liberty Harbor RV Park sits directly on Jersey City's waterfront with views of the Statue of Liberty from many sites and operates as a fenced section within a marina parking area with basic hookups on an open gravel lot.
For state-park camping, Wawayanda State Park lies in the northern New Jersey Highlands, spanning parts of Sussex and Passaic counties. Camp Wyanokie sits in 150 acres of forest at the edge of Norvin Green State Forest around a five-acre lake, offering a rustic contrast to the resort-style parks.
Things to do around Lake Hiawatha
Hiking dominates the local outdoor menu. Wawayanda State Park has over 60 miles of well-marked trails plus a 19.6-mile section of the Appalachian Trail, which is restricted to hiking only. Norvin Green State Forest, adjacent to Camp Wyanokie, has an extensive trail network with rugged hills and vistas that on clear days include the New York skyline.
On the water, Wawayanda offers boating and canoeing with electric motors only, a trailer launch, cartop launch, boat and canoe rentals, and swimming. Panther Lake Camping Resort centers on its lake for fishing, kayaking, and a beach area, with a swimming pool, hiking trails, paved roads for biking, a playground, and basketball courts.
For city trips, Liberty Harbor RV Park offers views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty, with a nearby ferry to Wall Street, light rail a block away, and PATH train access to Manhattan.

Most northern New Jersey campgrounds operate on a warm-weather calendar. Wawayanda State Park is open April 1 to October 31. Camp Wyanokie typically opens the first weekend in April and closes the last weekend in November. Panther Lake Camping Resort and Fla-Net Park run seasonal schedules that generally track the warmer months. Liberty Harbor RV Park is the exception, operating year-round on the Jersey City waterfront.
Summer draws the heaviest bookings, with lake swimming, kayaking, and full-hookup sites in demand. Fall brings foliage across the Highlands and cooler nights that suit hiking. Spring is quieter but wetter, and shoulder-season travelers should confirm which facilities and swim areas have opened for the year.
Winter changes the picture. At an elevation of 1,140 feet above sea level, Wawayanda State Park receives great accumulations of snow in the winter months, and winter activities on designated trails include cross-country skiing. RV travelers who want a winter base need to plan around the state-park and private-resort closure windows.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book campgrounds near Lake Hiawatha
New Jersey state-park sites use a central system. Reservations for Wawayanda State Park can be made through the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, and campsites can be booked online up to 11 months in advance. Summer weekends fill early.
Private campgrounds each run their own booking channels. Camp Wyanokie takes reservations only through its online reservation system with no on-site staff, and all reservations must be made before 5 pm on the date of check-in with a stay limit of seven days or less. Panther Lake Camping Resort, Fla-Net Park, and Liberty Harbor RV Park take direct reservations through their websites or by phone.
Check rig compatibility before booking. Camp Wyanokie is a rustic camping area that cannot accommodate RVs and offers no campsites with running water, toilets, electricity, or WiFi, only two latrines, fire pits, and charcoal grills across 150 acres of woodlands.
What to expect on-site
Expect a wide range of setups. Panther Lake Camping Resort houses many seasonal residents, creating a neighborhood atmosphere with permanent RVs and cottages, and the property splits between wooded sites with more privacy and open sections for larger rigs. Fla-Net Park sits close to Interstate 80, with electric, water, and sewer connections, though spacing can run tight.
State-park sites are simpler. At Wawayanda, water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office building, and there are no shower facilities. Camp Wyanokie has more than ten individual rustic campsites plus a group site, with two latrines, fire pits, and charcoal grills.
Cell service is inconsistent in the Highlands, and coverage varies widely between resort and state-park properties. Downloading offline maps before arrival is a good precaution.
