Campgrounds and RV parks near Lake Hopatcong, NJ

Lake Hopatcong sits in northern New Jersey's Highlands region, roughly 50 miles from New York City, and is the largest freshwater lake in the state. RV travelers use it as a base for boating, fishing, and hiking in Morris and Sussex counties. The area mixes private RV resorts, a state park campground, and smaller wooded properties, so options range from full-hookup family resorts to more rustic tent-friendly sites. Closest options for RV travelers include Fla-Net Park and Panther Lake Camping Resort, with The Great Divide Campground, LLC and Goodland Country Club and Spa also within a short drive. Stephens State Park, along the Musconetcong River near Hackettstown, offers campsites and picnic areas along the river. The surrounding landscape is rolling forested hills with lakes, trout streams, and long-distance trails. Waterloo Village, Allamuchy Mountain State Park, and Kittatinny Valley State Park sit within a short drive, and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is reachable as a day trip.

New Jersey state park campsites, including Stephens State Park, are reserved through the state's official system at camping.nj.gov. Visitors can register on the site or book as a guest, and sites can be filtered by rig length and hookup type. RV renters should confirm max-length limits before booking, since some loops accommodate only smaller trailers. Private resorts such as Panther Lake Camping Resort, The Great Divide Campground, LLC, Fla-Net Park, and Goodland Country Club and Spa are booked directly through each property's website or phone line. Full-hookup pull-through sites and cabins go first for summer weekends. For holiday weekends, reserve as early as the calendar opens. For shoulder-season midweek stays, a week or two of lead time is usually enough at most private parks in the region.
