Mount Royal camping overview

Mount Royal is a small unincorporated community in East Greenwich Township, Gloucester County, sitting about 20 minutes south of downtown Philadelphia along the I-295 corridor. The location makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want country surroundings within easy reach of Philadelphia, Camden, the Delaware River waterfront, and the wineries and farmland of South Jersey. The closest RV park is Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday in Clarksboro, which offers a country campground experience with Camden and downtown Philadelphia only about 20 minutes away. Other nearby options include Lake Kandle in Sewell, a family-oriented campground established in 1960 about 30 minutes from Philadelphia and an hour from Atlantic City, plus Old Cedar Campground in Monroeville, Four Seasons Campgrounds in Pilesgrove, and Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer. Collectively these parks range from full-hookup resort-style properties with pools and water features to quieter wooded sites deeper into Salem and Gloucester counties. Most sit within a 20 to 45 minute drive of Mount Royal, giving RV renters flexibility on price point, atmosphere, and access.

Things to do near Mount Royal

Philadelphia is the main draw. From Mount Royal, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Camden waterfront with Adventure Aquarium and Battleship New Jersey are all short drives across the Delaware River. The area is also within day-trip distance of Atlantic City and, for longer excursions, New York City. Closer to camp, families gravitate to on-site amenities like pools, playgrounds, and water features at Adventure Bound Tall Pines and the spring-fed lake and Olympic-size pool at Lake Kandle. Old Cedar Campground offers mini-golf, fishing lakes, a swimming pool, and a walking trail to a neighboring winery. South Jersey farm country adds Cowtown Rodeo, pick-your-own orchards, and a growing list of wineries within a 20 to 30 minute radius.

Most private RV parks around Mount Royal operate on a seasonal calendar tied to the South Jersey climate. Old Cedar Campground runs from mid-April through mid-to-late October, Lake Kandle operates from May 1 to October 1 (opening the last Friday of April and closing the first Sunday of October), and Adventure Bound Tall Pines is a warm-weather park with a similar April to late-October window. Four Seasons Campgrounds and the Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday run longer seasons, so shoulder-season and cold-weather travelers should focus on those. July and August are the busiest weeks, driven by school breaks, holiday weekends, and pool season. Sites at family resorts with water features can fill weeks in advance for Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends. Spring and early fall bring milder temperatures, fewer bugs, and easier reservations. Winter is cold and damp with periodic snow and freezing rain, and even at year-round parks, pools and splash areas are closed.

We had a great experience with RV Cozy Camper. The camper truly lived up to its name — it was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, making our trip relaxing and enjoyable. Everything we needed was thoughtfully provided, and the layout made the space feel welcoming and functional. It was easy to tow and set up, which helped take a lot of stress out of the trip. The attention to detail really showed and made us feel comfortable right away. Communication was smooth and helpful, and any questions we had were answered promptly. Overall, this was a wonderful experience, and we would absolutely recommend RV Cozy Camper to anyone looking for a reliable and comfortable camping option. We would happily use RV Cozy Camper again for future trips!

We had a family reunion out in West Virginia the first week in August. We decided to rent an RV this how I found Rod the owner of the RV. He was very polite and up front we us the whole time. The only down fall is the no pet rule. But we definitely rent from him next year.

We had a blast on our family road trip. "Archie" was easy to drive, clean and comfortable for my family of 3, with room to spare. Rod is a really nice guy and responded quickly to any question we had. We would love to do it again soon

Booking RV sites near Mount Royal

All five nearby campgrounds are privately operated, so reservations go directly through each park rather than through a public system like Recreation.gov. Most take bookings by phone or through their own websites, and several also list availability on third-party platforms such as Campspot, RoverPass, and Hipcamp. Minimum stays are common on weekends and holidays. Old Cedar Campground requires two nights on weekends and three nights on holidays, and Lake Kandle also requires two-night minimums, with three nights on holidays. Lake Kandle has shifted heavily toward seasonal reservations, so nightly availability there is very limited. Deposits and cancellation windows vary by park, so confirm the policy before paying. For peak-summer weekends, book eight to twelve weeks out. Shoulder-season midweek stays can usually be secured within a week or two.

What to expect on the ground

The terrain around Mount Royal is flat, low-elevation coastal plain, which makes for straightforward driving, level sites, and easy setup for first-time RV renters. Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike are close by, and the Philadelphia South / Clarksboro KOA Holiday is set up for larger rigs, so longer motorhomes and travel trailers are well accommodated. Expect full-hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service at most parks, along with pools, playgrounds, camp stores, and laundry. Cell service and WiFi are generally reliable given the proximity to Philadelphia. Summer humidity, mosquitoes, and ticks are realities, so pack repellent and check pets after wooded walks. Pet and tent policies vary. Lake Kandle does not allow tents or pets, while most other nearby parks permit both with restrictions.
