Campgrounds and RV parks near Mountain Lakes, NJ

Mountain Lakes sits in Morris County in New Jersey's Skylands region, a wooded borough surrounded by lakes, ridges, and state forest land. For RV renters, the town is a practical base: it is close to I-80 and Route 46, roughly an hour from New York City, and within a short drive of several full-service private campgrounds and a state park camping area. The surrounding Highlands landscape drives most of the camping options. Panther Lake Camping Resort in Andover and The Great Divide Campground, LLC in Newton offer full-hookup RV sites, pools, and family amenities within roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive. Wawayanda State Park, further north in Sussex and Passaic counties, is the closest state-run camping area and is managed by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry. More rustic options are also within range. Camp Wyanokie borders Norvin Green State Forest and is tent-only with no RV hookups, while Fla-Net Park in nearby Netcong caters to smaller groups and short stays. The mix works well for renters who want a lake, hiking, or resort-style trip without a long drive.

State park sites are reserved through the New Jersey State Park Service's online system at camping.nj.gov. Wawayanda State Park uses this platform for its individual and group sites. Group sites require a minimum of seven people and may involve contacting the park office directly. Rates differ for New Jersey residents and non-residents, and campers should note that water is not available at Wawayanda's campsites and must be carried from the main office building. Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Panther Lake Camping Resort, The Great Divide Campground, LLC, and Fla-Net Park take bookings directly by phone or through their websites. For summer weekends and holidays, reserve early; sites at the popular private resorts commonly fill weeks in advance.
