Campgrounds near New Providence, NJ
New Providence sits in Union County in northern New Jersey, roughly 25 miles west of Manhattan. RV travelers staying in this area typically split their time between urban side trips into New York City and outdoor stays in the Skylands and Highlands regions to the northwest. There are no campgrounds inside the borough itself, so most travelers base themselves at parks within a 30 to 60 minute drive.
The closest full-service RV option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, which markets itself as the closest RV park to New York City. Further west, Fla-Net Park in Flanders and Panther Lake Camping Resort in Andover offer wooded, lake-side sites geared to longer stays.
More rustic options include Camp Wyanokie in West Milford and the private Goodland Country Club and Spa. Camp Wyanokie is a rustic camping area that cannot accommodate RVs and offers no sites with running water, toilets, electricity, or WiFi, so it suits tent add-ons rather than motorhomes.
Things to do near New Providence
The main draw for RV travelers basing near New Providence is easy access to New York City. From Liberty Harbor RV Park, the Grove Street PATH station is a short walk and Manhattan is roughly a 15 minute ride away, making car-free day trips into the city practical for families.
West of the city, the Skylands and Highlands regions deliver the outdoor half of the trip. Panther Lake Camping Resort features a 45-acre lake on 160 wooded acres about 50 miles from New York City, with swimming, boating, fishing, and a sandy beach. Camp Wyanokie offers 150 acres of forest, a 5-acre lake, and miles of hiking trails, with connections into the adjacent Norvin Green State Forest for longer treks.
Historic sites, Waterloo Village, and Lake Hopatcong add further day-trip options within a short drive.

The primary RV camping season in the New Providence area runs from mid-spring through late fall. Private resorts follow this pattern closely: Panther Lake Camping Resort operates April 15 through October 31, while Liberty Harbor RV Park is open year-round, making it the practical choice for shoulder-season and winter stays.
Summer is peak season. Weekends fill quickly at lake-side parks, and holiday weekends carry minimum-stay rules. Panther Lake requires a 3-night minimum on holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Columbus Day, and a 2-night minimum on special event and October weekends. Fall foliage in the Highlands makes September and October popular for weekend trips.
Winter brings snow and freezing lows to northern New Jersey. Most rustic and lake-oriented parks close, water systems are shut down, and RV travelers should expect to rely on urban parks with hardened infrastructure or plan trips outside the region.

This is exactly what we wanted for our honeymoon! Jeff made things so easy and made things go smoothly for the rental. He even checked on us to make sure we had no problems or questions. I would recommend this rental for any type of occasion. Couldn’t ask for a more friendly person. Thank you

I accept the charges as followed. However I do not accept charge for 4 days. I only had the vehicle for 3 days. I'd like to dispute the 4th day charged for 250.00

How to book campgrounds near New Providence
Booking channels vary by property. Camp Wyanokie routes all campsite availability and reservations through its partner Campspot. Panther Lake Camping Resort and Fla-Net Park take bookings directly through their websites or by phone. Liberty Harbor RV Park accepts phone and online reservations, and given its limited site count it benefits from booking well ahead for summer weekends.
For New Jersey state parks in the surrounding region, reservations can be booked up to 11 months in advance of the check-in date, with a minimum stay of 2 days and a maximum stay of 14 days. Same-day reservations require contacting the park office by phone or in person and are not allowed online, and some site types such as cabins must be reserved online at least 2 days in advance. Summer weekends at state parks routinely sell out soon after the booking window opens.
What to expect near New Providence
Expect a clear split between urban and wooded camping experiences. Liberty Harbor is transit-focused rather than scenic, functioning more like a paved lot with hookups than a traditional campground, with sites close together and minimal privacy. Amenities include 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water hookups, pull-through sites, a dump station, showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi.
Rural parks feel very different. Panther Lake hosts many seasonal campers and cottages, which can make some loops feel like a neighborhood rather than a traditional campground, and cell service and Wi-Fi can be limited, so it is worth downloading directions in advance. Fla-Net Park skews toward long-term residents but offers hookups suitable for larger rigs.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near New Providence, NJ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in New Providence, NJ?
An RV rental in New Providence is one of the more affordable ways to explore the New York metro area. On RVezy, you can typically expect to pay around $125 to $200 per night for a travel trailer, $175 to $275 for a Class C motorhome, and $250 to $400 for a larger Class A. Once you add a protection plan, mileage, and any generator hours, a typical 4-night weekend usually lands between $700 and $1,500 total. For a cheap RV rental in New Providence, search midweek dates, look for travel trailers that hosts deliver (so you skip towing), and book in late April or September when summer pricing eases. Pro tip: filtering by Instant Book often surfaces hosts who price competitively to fill their calendar.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Providence%2C%20New%20JerseyDo I need a special license to rent an RV in New Providence?
You're in luck: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New Providence. New Jersey is one of the easiest states for RVers because the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) explicitly exempts personal-use recreational vehicles from Commercial Driver License (CDL) rules, even for big Class A motorhomes over 26,000 pounds. On RVezy, you'll just need to be 25 or older and pass a quick identity check through the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork really is, leaving more time to plan the fun stuff.
nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/cdl.htmWhat protection and roadside coverage comes with my RVezy booking?
Every RVezy booking in New Providence includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are never stranded on Route 78 or the Garden State Parkway without help. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind. During checkout you choose a coverage tier based on the deductible you are comfortable with, and that choice is yours, not the host's. Pro tip: if it is your first time renting an RV, a higher tier costs only a few dollars more per night and lowers your deductible substantially, which makes that first parallel park feel a lot less stressful.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my New Providence RV trip?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform wide (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. Beyond that window, the refund amount depends on how far out you cancel relative to your trip start date. If a host has to cancel on you, RVezy will help you rebook or refund you in full. If your plans shift, open your trip in the RVezy app or contact support and the team will walk you through your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from New Providence?
Yes, a pet-friendly RV rental in New Providence is easy to find. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see hosts within a short drive who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many ask for a small pet cleaning fee, usually $50 to $150 per trip, which you will see clearly before booking. Once you have the rig, the area is great for four legged travelers: the roughly 2,000 acre Watchung Reservation in Mountainside (about 4 miles away) has miles of leashed dog trails, and Lewis Morris County Park in Morris County allows pets at its campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your dog's size and breed, most are flexible when you ask upfront.
ucnj.org/parks-recreation/watchung-reservation/Can the RV be delivered to my home or campground near New Providence?
Yes, and it is the easiest move for first timers. RV delivery in New Providence is offered by many RVezy hosts, who will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome to your driveway or a local campground like Round Valley or Spruce Run. Hosts set their own delivery fees (often around $2 to $5 per mile each way) and they will handle leveling, hookups, and a full walk through so you are not guessing on day one. Filter listings by Delivery to see who offers it. Pro tip: for a stress free family RV trip from New Providence, book delivery to Cheesequake State Park (about 35 miles southeast) and skip towing through Newark traffic entirely.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/cheesequake-state-park/How far can I realistically travel on an RV trip from New Providence?
Your New Providence RV trip can cover serious ground. Within a 3 hour drive you can reach the Delaware Water Gap (about 60 miles west), the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania (about 75 miles northwest), the Catskills in New York (about 110 miles north), Hersheypark in PA (about 160 miles southwest), and the Jersey Shore points along the Atlantic coast. Most RVezy hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles often around $0.35 each, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trips. Pro tip: confirm the mileage cap with your host before booking, those heading on an RV road trip from New Providence to Acadia or the Outer Banks often arrange a flat mileage package upfront.
nps.gov/dewa/index.htmWhat are the best campgrounds near New Providence for RV camping?
You've got great options for RV camping in New Providence within an hour's drive. Cheesequake State Park (35 miles southeast in Matawan) offers wooded sites with electric hookups near salt marshes and Raritan Bay. Spruce Run Recreation Area (30 miles west in Clinton) sits on a 1,290-acre reservoir, perfect for kayaking and lakefront sites. Round Valley Recreation Area (28 miles southwest) features a stunning 2,350-acre reservoir. Worthington State Forest (55 miles northwest) gives you 78 riverfront sites along the Delaware River. For full hookups closer to NYC, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is about 20 miles east. Pro tip: book NJ state parks through camping.nj.gov, the system opens reservations up to 12 months in advance for popular weekends.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/campreserv/When is the best time to rent an RV in New Providence?
The sweet spot for an RV rental in New Jersey is late April through mid October, when daytime highs typically run 65 to 85 F and nearly every state park campground is open. May, June, and September are favorites with experienced RVers: comfortable temps, fewer bugs, and softer rental prices than July and August. Fall foliage in the Watchung Mountains and Delaware Water Gap usually peaks in mid to late October, making it ideal for a scenic motorhome rental in New Providence. Winter (December to March) brings highs in the 30s and 40s, but several hosts rent year round if you want off season deals. Pro tip: book by early March for Memorial Day weekend, NJ state park campsites at popular spots like Worthington fill up fast.
weather.gov/phi/I've never driven an RV before, how does the handoff work?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands. Every RVezy host provides an in-person walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery), typically 30 to 60 minutes long, covering the propane, slide-outs, generator, water systems, tank dumping, and how to safely back into a campsite. They'll text you their cell so you can reach them anytime during your trip, and 24/7 roadside support is one tap away in the app. For New Providence renters, ask your host about driving tips for Route 78 and Route 287, the two highways most trips start on. Pro tip: most first-timers do best in a Class C motorhome or a 20 to 25 foot travel trailer, large enough to be comfy, small enough to forget you're driving something big.
nj.gov/mvc/drivertopics/drivermanual.htmWhat if something breaks down during my trip?
Breathe easy, 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking as part of your protection plan at no extra cost. If you get a flat on the New Jersey Turnpike, a dead battery at Cheesequake, or a stuck slide out in the Poconos, one call dispatches help, tow, jump start, tire change, lockout, or fuel delivery. Your host is your second line of support since they know the RV inside and out, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: take photos of the RV at pickup and save your host's number to your favorites, it turns most hiccups into a quick fix instead of a vacation killer.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my New Providence RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and popular. An RV road trip from New Providence into Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine, Virginia, or the Carolinas is exactly what these rentals are built for. Cross border trips into Canada may be allowed, but confirm with your host before booking because coverage rules differ. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Bring your passport for Canadian trips and review current CBP entry requirements. Pro tip: a classic 7 day loop from New Providence is Cape Cod via I 95, with a stop in Mystic, Connecticut for seafood and the seaport museum.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a New Jersey RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest line items but easy to plan for. New Jersey gas prices generally track close to the US average, and remember you do not pump it yourself, NJ remains a full service state. Most Class C motorhomes get about 8 to 12 miles per gallon, travel trailers towed by a pickup average around 10 to 14 MPG, and larger Class A diesels run roughly 7 to 10 MPG. For a typical 400 mile weekend loop to the Delaware Water Gap and back, budget around $150 to $250 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in central or southern NJ before crossing into New York or Pennsylvania, where prices are often higher.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Providence?
Sooner is smarter. New Jersey state parks use the Reserve NJ Outdoors reservation system, which opens bookings several months ahead, and popular spots like Worthington State Forest, Round Valley, and Cheesequake fill 4 to 6 months out for summer weekends and holidays. For a smooth campervan rental in New Providence experience, lock in your campsite first, then book the RV. Private campgrounds in the Poconos and along the Jersey Shore often release inventory more flexibly, and you can sometimes grab a midweek spot two weeks out. Pro tip: check the reservation site often, sites at the best campgrounds near New Providence open up regularly as other campers shuffle plans.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/campreserv/What are local driving conditions like around New Providence?
New Providence sits in Union County at about 400 feet of elevation in the foothills of the Watchung Mountains, with easy access to Route 22, Route 78, and the Garden State Parkway. Highway driving is the main consideration: rush hour eastbound toward Newark and the Holland Tunnel (7 to 9 am and 4 to 7 pm) is no place for a first-time RV driver, so plan departures midmorning or after 7 pm. Avoid the Pulaski Skyway and George Washington Bridge lower level entirely (low clearances). Heading west and south on Route 78 toward the Delaware Water Gap is open and easy. Pro tip: download an RV-specific GPS like RV Trip Wizard or CoPilot to auto-route around the dozens of NJ Parkway bridges with 7 to 10 foot clearances.
state.nj.us/transportation/commuter/roads/What hookups and amenities can I expect at local campgrounds?
Most campgrounds within an hour of New Providence offer a solid mix. NJ state parks like Spruce Run and Round Valley have water spigots, vault or flush toilets, hot showers, and dump stations, though full hookups (electric, water, sewer) are limited. For 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer at every site, private parks like Pleasant Valley Family Campground in Estell Manor or Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City are your best bet. Worthington State Forest has potable water fill stations and modern bathhouses but no in-site hookups. Pro tip: every NJ state park campground has at least one free dump station, so even a 'dry' weekend at Worthington is easy to manage if your RV has decent tank capacity. Always confirm dump station hours at check-in.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/state-park/worthington-state-forest/What features and equipment come standard in RVezy rentals here?
You will be impressed by how well stocked these rigs are. RVs available for rent in New Providence typically include a queen or king bed, full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), bathroom with shower and toilet, dinette, roof AC, furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many also include a generator, outdoor awning, propane grill, leveling blocks, and a TV with built in DVD or streaming. Wi Fi hotspots and solar panels are increasingly common on newer listings. Each listing page shows the full amenity list and sleeps count, so you can filter for exactly what your family needs. Pro tip: confirm bedding and kitchenware are included, many New Providence hosts include them free, while others offer them as a $50 to $100 add on.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Providence%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons, mileage policies, and pickup logistics should I expect?
Booking is flexible and transparent. Common add ons in New Providence include bedding and towel kits ($50 to $100), kitchen packages ($30 to $75), extra generator hours ($3 to $5 per hour beyond a daily allowance), bike racks, kayak racks, and propane refills. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per night to RV rental with unlimited mileage, all listed clearly on each listing page before you book. Pickup is usually at the host's driveway in the early afternoon with drop off by late morning, though many hosts flex by an hour or two if you ask. For travel trailer renters, hosts often deliver to your driveway in New Providence or directly to your campground. Pro tip: empty the tanks and refill propane before drop off to avoid a service fee.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book on RVezy you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, so you are protected throughout the trip. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value) is held on your card before pickup and released after return, assuming no damage. The protection plan covers most accidental damage, so the deposit really just handles smaller items like minor cleaning fees or a missing dish set. Pro tip: complete the pre trip photo checklist at pickup inside the RVezy app, it is the single best way to ensure your deposit comes back fast and in full.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I park an RV overnight in New Providence itself?
Here is the local scoop: the Borough of New Providence restricts on street parking overnight without prior permission, which residents and visitors can typically request through the police department's online portal. For loading and short stays before a trip, a private driveway works fine. For longer storage, most renters either keep the RV on private property with the owner's permission or use a nearby storage yard in Berkeley Heights or Summit. If you are picking up a delivered RV, the host usually drops it the morning of your trip, so overnight parking is not an issue. Pro tip: the closest legal RV friendly overnight stays are Liberty Harbor RV Park (Jersey City, about 20 miles east) and Cheesequake State Park (about 35 miles southeast), both great launch points for a family RV trip New Providence travelers love.
