Campgrounds and RV parks near Northvale, NJ

Northvale sits at the northern tip of Bergen County, right against the New York state line and roughly 25 miles from Manhattan. That location puts RV travellers within short driving range of two very different camping worlds: the wooded state parks of the Lower Hudson Valley to the north and west, and the urban shoreline of New York Harbor to the southeast. The closest developed campground is Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman State Park, about 25 miles up the Palisades Parkway. Harriman is New York's second-largest state park, with 31 lakes and more than 200 miles of trails maintained by volunteers from the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. Camp Wyanokie, on the edge of Norvin Green State Forest in West Milford, is a rustic tent-only property for travellers who do not need hookups. For RVers who want a city base, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City is the closest full-hookup park to Manhattan, with skyline views and quick PATH and ferry access. Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn's Gateway National Recreation Area and Pelton Pond in Clarence Fahnestock State Park round out the practical options within a two-hour drive.

Reservation systems vary by campground. Beaver Pond at Harriman State Park books through the New York State ReserveAmerica portal up to nine months in advance. Sites become available at 8 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends during the peak season from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are accepted until 3 p.m., and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field is booked through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance, with reservations required at least a day ahead of arrival. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly by phone or through its website and can accept check-ins after hours. For Camp Wyanokie and the group wilderness sites at Clarence Fahnestock, reservations are made directly with the operator rather than through a portal.
