Campgrounds and RV parks near Norwood, NJ

Norwood sits in Bergen County near the New York State line, roughly 20 minutes from the George Washington Bridge. The borough itself is residential, so RV renters typically base a trip here and drive to campgrounds in the Hudson Highlands, the New Jersey Highlands, or the New York City waterfront. Options range from primitive state-park sites to a full-hookup urban RV park with ferry access to Manhattan. The closest large public campground is Beaver Pond Campground - Harriman State Park, situated within the 46,000-acre Harriman State Park in Rockland County, adjacent to the Lake Welch Recreation Area. It sits roughly 25 miles north of the George Washington Bridge. For urban stays, Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City works as a basecamp for visiting New York City without driving into Manhattan, offering electric and water hookups plus restrooms, showers, and laundry. Further afield, Camp Wyanokie offers rustic tent-oriented camping in the New Jersey Highlands, Floyd Bennett Field - Gateway National Recreational Area sits in Brooklyn, and Pelton Pond - Clarence Fahnestock State Park anchors an inland forest option about an hour north.

Reservation systems differ by campground, so identify the operator before booking. New York State Parks facilities such as Beaver Pond and Pelton Pond book through the ReserveAmerica portal. Camping reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, with sites becoming available at the 9-month window at 8AM Monday through Friday and 9AM Saturday and Sunday from March 15 through Labor Day. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3PM on the day of arrival, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Floyd Bennett Field uses the federal system, with reservations through Recreation.gov. Liberty Harbor RV Park takes reservations directly through its own website or by phone. For peak summer weekends and holiday periods, book as early as the window opens; cancellations are more common midweek.
