Camping near Ocean Acres, New Jersey
Ocean Acres sits in western Stafford and Barnegat townships in Ocean County, roughly eight to ten miles inland from Long Beach Island and surrounded by the Pinelands National Reserve. The location works well as an RV base: campers reach the barrier-island beaches, Barnegat Bay, and the pine-and-cedar interior within a short drive, and the Garden State Parkway runs just east of the community.
Options nearby range from private family resorts to a state forest campground. Sun Retreats Long Beach Island, Bakers Acres Campgrounds, and Sea Pirate Campground offer full-hookup sites, pools, and planned activities aimed at families. Cedar Creek Campground and Canoe Rent adds paddling on Cedar Creek, and Bass River State Forest provides a more rustic setting inside the Pinelands.
Most commercial parks in the area run seasonally from spring through fall, while Bass River State Forest is open year-round through the New Jersey State Park Service.
Things to do around Ocean Acres
Long Beach Island is the main draw, with ocean beaches, Barnegat Lighthouse State Park at the north tip, and Fantasy Island Amusement Park in Beach Haven. Tuckerton Seaport, just south, focuses on baymen and decoy-carving history and is a workable rainy-day stop.
Inside the Pinelands, Bass River State Forest surrounds Lake Absegami, which is open for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, with trails leading directly from the campground. Cedar Creek Campground and Canoe Rent operates a livery on Cedar Creek that shuttles paddlers upstream to floating routes through Double Trouble State Park.
For day trips, Island Beach State Park to the north offers undeveloped dunes, and Atlantic City is about a 30-minute drive south.

Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Ocean Acres. Temperatures are moderate, biting insects are less intense than in midsummer, and inland Pinelands sites at Bass River State Forest and Bakers Acres Campgrounds tend to have open availability outside major holidays.
Summer is peak season. Sea Pirate Campground, Bakers Acres Campgrounds, and Sun Retreats Long Beach Island run full activity calendars from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and weekends near July 4 and mid-August book out well in advance. Ocean water off the Jersey Shore typically warms into the low 70s Fahrenheit in July and August, and afternoon thunderstorms are common.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest storm risk from August into October. Winter is quiet: most private campgrounds close, though Bass River State Forest keeps a portion of its sites open year-round for cold-weather campers.

How to book campgrounds near Ocean Acres
Bass River State Forest is reserved through the New Jersey State Park Service at camping.nj.gov, where an online map shows the North Shore and South Shore loops around Lake Absegami. The state system accepts bookings up to 11 months ahead of arrival, and summer weekends and holidays are the first dates to fill.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Sea Pirate Campground, Bakers Acres Campgrounds, and Sun Retreats Long Beach Island take bookings directly through their websites or by phone, and many require deposits at the time of reservation. Long-stay guests often reserve seasonal sites before the previous season ends.
For big rigs, confirm site length, hookup amperage, and pull-through availability when reserving, since some older Pinelands parks have sandy interior roads and shaded sites that better suit mid-size RVs.
What to expect on the ground
The terrain around Ocean Acres is flat, sandy, and pine-covered. Many campgrounds in the Pinelands have sand or dirt interior roads and site pads, which can be dusty when dry and soft after heavy rain. A patio mat helps keep sand out of the RV.
Mosquitoes, ticks, and greenhead flies are part of the summer experience, particularly near marshes and cedar swamps. Repellent, long sleeves for evenings, and tick checks after hikes are standard practice. Bass River State Forest prohibits alcohol, which keeps the campground notably quieter than many private parks in the region.
Cell service is generally reliable on major carriers throughout the area, and grocery stores, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are available along Route 9 and Route 72 within a few minutes of Ocean Acres.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20Acres%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Ocean Acres?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ocean Acres. New Jersey does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for motorhomes used for personal recreation, so a standard Class D license covers everything from a campervan to a Class A motorhome. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and we'll confirm your ID through the platform during checkout. Visiting from another country? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set. Most first-time renters tell us the pickup walkthrough makes them feel road-ready in under an hour.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Ocean Acres booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in. The protection plan covers most damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick the peace of mind that fits your budget. It provides significant financial protection so a flat tire on the Garden State Parkway or a scrape at a tight campground loop doesn't ruin your trip. Pro tip: take photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and dropoff, and you'll glide through the return process with zero stress.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Ocean Acres RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after booking. That means if your Long Beach Island weekend gets shuffled or a nor'easter rolls up the coast, you have a clear path forward. Refund amounts depend on how close to your trip start date you cancel and whether circumstances like natural disasters apply. You'll see the full policy details in your booking confirmation and on the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in summer dates at Jersey Shore prices, knowing the grace period has you covered if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an Ocean Acres RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Ocean Acres is easy to find. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs, often with a small cleaning fee. Once you're rolling, your pup will love the area: the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in Oceanville (about 20 minutes south) has leashed-dog-friendly trails through salt marsh. Many local campgrounds like Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek and Baker's Acres in Little Egg Harbor welcome dogs. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm size limits and bring a tie-out for your campsite.
fws.gov/refuge/edwin-b-forsytheCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or driveway in Ocean Acres?
Yes, RV delivery in Ocean Acres is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a 30-foot rig down Route 72. Many local hosts will deliver to nearby campgrounds like Sea Pirate Campground, Baker's Acres, or Surf & Stream in Toms River, set up the RV, hook up water and power, and walk you through everything before they leave. Delivery fees usually range from $2 to $5 per mile, with some hosts offering free delivery within 25 miles. Pro tip: ask your host about delivery to Long Beach Island campgrounds for the ultimate beach-and-RV combo with zero driving stress.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20Acres%2C%20New%20JerseyHow far can I drive from Ocean Acres on a typical RV trip?
Plenty far. Ocean Acres sits in a sweet spot on the Jersey Shore, so an RV road trip from Ocean Acres opens up the entire Mid-Atlantic. Atlantic City is about 35 miles south (about 45 minutes), Cape May is about 75 miles south (under 2 hours), Philadelphia is about 70 miles west, and New York City is about 90 miles north. Want more range? The Delaware Water Gap is roughly 130 miles northwest, and Assateague Island in Maryland (wild ponies on the beach) is about 175 miles south. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: filter by unlimited mileage if you're planning a multi-stop coastal loop.
visitnj.org/Where are the best campgrounds near Ocean Acres for an RV trip?
You have great options for RV camping in Ocean Acres and nearby. Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek (about 8 miles south) is a year-round park with full hookups and easy LBI access. Baker's Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor (10 miles south) offers wooded sites, a pool, and family activities. Surf & Stream Campground in Toms River (20 miles north) has 50-amp pull-throughs ideal for larger rigs. For a state park experience, Bass River State Forest in Tuckerton (15 miles south) offers rustic sites in the Pine Barrens with a swimming lake. Pro tip: book summer weekends at least 2 to 3 months out, especially around July 4th and Labor Day.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/bass-river-state-forest/When is the best time to visit Ocean Acres in an RV?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for an Ocean Acres RV trip, with summer highs in the low to mid-80s and ocean water warm enough for swimming from late June through September. June and September are the smart-money months: temperatures are mild (70s to low 80s), bugs have eased, campground rates dip, and Long Beach Island still has plenty of open restaurants. Spring (April to May) brings 60-degree days perfect for hiking in the Pine Barrens. Winter is quiet but doable in a four-season rig, with January highs in the 40s. Pro tip: target the first two weeks of September for the best mix of beach weather and breathing room.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll be more than okay, you'll be hooked. First time renting an RV in Ocean Acres is genuinely easy because every host on RVezy gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, water systems, slide-outs, leveling, and dump procedures. You can also message hosts before booking with any questions, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every reservation through the RVezy protection plan. The local terrain is forgiving too: flat roads, wide shoulders on Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway, and short hops to most campgrounds. Pro tip: book a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for your first trip. They drive like a big van and park more easily than full Class A rigs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered, day or night. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on the Garden State Parkway, a dead battery at Bass River State Forest, or a tow out of a sandy LBI driveway is handled with one phone call. The roadside team coordinates service directly with local providers across Ocean and Atlantic Counties. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app for any RV-specific quirks (like the trick to relighting a pilot light). Pro tip: save the RVezy support number to your phone before you hit the road, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate for faster service if you ever need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Ocean Acres rental into New York, Pennsylvania, or other states?
Yes, most hosts welcome cross-state RV travel, which makes Ocean Acres a fantastic launchpad. Common routes include heading north into the Catskills (about 3 hours), west to Lancaster, PA Amish Country (about 2.5 hours), or south through Delaware to Assateague, MD. Each host sets their own travel boundaries, so message them through the listing to confirm before booking. Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance host approval; travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a 5 to 7 day loop from Ocean Acres to Cape May, across the Cape May-Lewes Ferry to Delaware, and back via Philly is one of the most popular coastal road trips on the platform.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an Ocean Acres RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes run 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs come in around 7 to 10 MPG. As a bonus, New Jersey is a full-service state, so an attendant pumps your gas (no awkward fueling for first-timers). A weekend trip from Ocean Acres to Cape May and back (about 150 miles round trip) in a Class C will run roughly $50 to $70 in fuel at current prices. Pro tip: fill up at the Wawa on Route 72 in Manahawkin before heading to LBI, as island prices climb in summer.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ocean Acres?
For summer weekends, book your campground as soon as you book your RV, ideally 3 to 6 months out. New Jersey state park campgrounds (like Bass River State Forest and Wharton State Forest) use the official NJ state park reservation portal and open bookings well in advance, which is huge for July 4th and Labor Day weekends. Private parks like Sea Pirate and Baker's Acres take reservations directly through their websites or phone. Midweek and shoulder-season trips are far more flexible and often have same-week availability. Pro tip: if your first pick is full, set a calendar reminder to check back, as cancellations open up frequently 7 to 14 days out.
newjerseystateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Ocean Acres?
Driving an RV around Ocean Acres is refreshingly straightforward. The area is flat, the main routes (Route 72, Route 9, and the Garden State Parkway) are wide and well-maintained, and gas stations and pull-offs are frequent. A few local tips: the Route 72 causeway onto Long Beach Island gets bumper-to-bumper on summer Saturdays before 11 a.m. and Sunday afternoons heading off-island, so plan around those windows. Larger RVs should also note the Garden State Parkway's truck and trailer restrictions north of exit 105. Pro tip: cross onto LBI on a Friday evening or Sunday morning to glide right through.
state.nj.us/transportation/What amenities will I find at local Ocean Acres campgrounds?
Most campgrounds within 30 minutes of Ocean Acres offer the full package: 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer hookups, hot showers, laundry, Wi-Fi, and dump stations. Sea Pirate Campground and Surf & Stream both have pools and full-hookup pull-through sites. Baker's Acres has fishing ponds and a camp store. For boondocking or partial-hookup fans, Bass River State Forest offers wooded sites with potable water fill-up stations and a dump station, even if individual sites are no-hookup. Need to dump tanks mid-trip? Most private parks allow non-guest dumping for $10 to $20. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving for LBI, since beach-side spots can be tight on hookups.
dep.nj.gov/parksandforests/parks/bass-river-state-forest/What's actually inside an Ocean Acres RV rental?
More creature comforts than you'd expect. A typical motorhome rental in Ocean Acres includes a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping space for 4 to 8 people, air conditioning, heat, a TV, and seatbelted seating for everyone riding. Many listings include linens, kitchenware, and outdoor camp chairs. Many hosts also provide a generator for off-grid power, and Wi-Fi hotspots are increasingly common. Travel trailers offer similar layouts but require a tow vehicle, so Class C motorhomes are the easiest pick for families. Pro tip: check the listing photos and amenities list carefully, and message the host to confirm specific items like a coffee maker or outdoor grill before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20Acres%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Ocean Acres?
Hosts in Ocean Acres offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your trip: bike racks, kayaks, outdoor grills, generators, fire pits, linens packages, beach chairs, and even pre-stocked pantries. Add-on fees typically run $10 to $50 each. Pickup is usually at the host's location in Stafford, Barnegat, or Manahawkin, and many offer delivery to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary: some listings include 100 to 150 free miles per day, others offer unlimited mileage for a flat rate. Pro tip: if you're doing a Cape May or Philly loop, prioritize listings with unlimited mileage so you don't watch the odometer the whole trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20Acres%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through RVezy, so you never exchange cash or checks with the host. You'll pay the full booking total (rental + protection + fees) by credit card when you book, and a security deposit hold (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is placed on your card a few days before pickup and released after a successful return. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkthrough at pickup, photograph the rig inside and out, follow the host's mileage and generator rules, and return the RV clean with tanks emptied and fuel topped off. Pro tip: use the RVezy app's built-in messaging and photo upload at pickup and dropoff for a smooth, dispute-free return.
