Ocean View camping overview
Ocean View sits in Dennis Township, Cape May County, on the southern New Jersey shore between Atlantic City and Cape May. The area is a dense cluster of private RV parks along Route 9 and Corson Tavern Road, with the Atlantic beaches of Sea Isle City, Ocean City, and Avalon within a short drive. Most campgrounds market themselves as family resorts with pools, planned activities, and full hookups suited to larger rigs.
Ocean View Resort Campground bills itself as New Jersey's largest privately owned campground, spread across 180 wooded acres with 1,173 sites equipped with 20/30 amp electric, water, sewer, and cable TV, plus many 50 amp sites and 40 pull-throughs. Sea Grove Camping Resort, Echo Farms RV Resort, Pine Haven Campground Resort, and Lake and Shore RV Resort round out the nearby private options, most offering full hookups plus cabins or park model rentals.
For a public-land alternative, Belleplain State Forest covers almost 23,000 acres of pine, oak, and Atlantic white cedar forest across Cape May and Cumberland counties, a short inland drive from Ocean View.
Things to do near Ocean View
The main draw is beach access. Ocean View sits about three miles from the Atlantic shore, putting Sea Isle City, Ocean City, Strathmere, and Avalon within a 10 to 20 minute drive. Boardwalks, amusement piers, and saltwater fishing are the standard day trips, and Cape May's Victorian district and the Cape May County Park and Zoo lie roughly 15 to 20 miles south.
Inland, Belleplain State Forest offers over forty miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, plus swimming, boating, and fishing at Lake Nummy. Belleplain is a well-known birding spot, especially during the spring migration. Kayaking on the back bays, crabbing off marsh docks, and dolphin-watching cruises out of Cape May and Wildwood are common warm-weather add-ons.

The camping season on the Jersey Cape is heavily weighted toward late spring through early fall. Many private parks open in April and close in October, and shore-town beach services generally run from Memorial Day through Labor Day. July and August are peak months, with hot, humid days, warm ocean water, and full campgrounds on weekends. Booking eight to twelve weeks ahead for summer weekends is standard, and holiday weekends fill even earlier.
Late May, June, and September are the sweet spots for RV travelers who want milder temperatures, lower humidity, and easier reservations. Ocean water off Cape May stays swimmable into September, with August sea-surface temperatures averaging around 75°F (24°C).
Winter camping is limited on the private side. Belleplain State Forest campsites are seasonal, generally open spring through fall, with the trailer sanitary station open year round but no hose from November through March. Atlantic hurricane and nor'easter activity peaks from August through October and can force short-notice closures.
How to book campgrounds near Ocean View
Private resorts around Ocean View, including Sea Grove Camping Resort, Ocean View Resort Campground, Echo Farms RV Resort, Pine Haven Campground Resort, and Lake and Shore RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites and phone lines. Deposits and multi-night minimums on summer weekends and holidays are common, and many sites are held by seasonal renters, so transient availability can be tight.
For state land, online reservations for Belleplain State Forest can be made at camping.nj.gov, the New Jersey State Park Service reservation portal, which is powered by ReserveAmerica. For popular summer weekends, book state sites as soon as the reservation window opens, and consider midweek nights for better availability.
What to expect on the ground
Expect flat, wooded, sandy terrain a few miles inland from the ocean. Sites at the larger private resorts tend to be shaded and close together, with full hookups, cable, and Wi-Fi. Big-rig access is generally good along Route 9, and pull-through sites are available at several parks. Common on-site amenities include swimming pools, kiddie pools, stocked fishing ponds, mini-golf, and freshwater lake swimming with sandy beaches at the larger resorts.
Many parks lean heavily seasonal, so transient sites can be limited and the vibe skews family-oriented with planned activities and themed weekends. Mosquitoes, ticks, and greenhead flies are a factor in summer, especially near marshes. Cell coverage is solid across the area. Grocery, propane, and RV supply stops are easy to find along Route 9, and the Garden State Parkway provides quick access from the north and south.

For state-park camping, Belleplain State Forest sits 20 minutes west with 169 sites in the Pinelands. Pro tip: book Ocean View Resort by February for July weekends, it fills up fast.
state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/belle.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an Ocean View, NJ RV trip?
The sweet spot is late May through mid-October. Peak summer (July and August) brings warm 80 to 88 degree days, ocean temps in the mid-70s, and full boardwalks at Ocean City and Wildwood, perfect for a family RV trip in Ocean View, NJ. June and September are the local insider favorites: 75-degree days, smaller crowds, lower nightly rates, and most campgrounds still fully open. October brings crisp 60s, fall foliage in nearby Belleplain State Forest, and Cape May's famous Victorian Weekend. Most campgrounds in the area close from late October through April, so winter rentals are limited. Pro tip: aim for the week after Labor Day, beaches stay lifeguarded but rates drop sharply.
weather.gov/phi/I've never rented an RV before, is Ocean View a good first-timer spot?
It's one of the best spots on the East Coast for first time renting an RV. Roads around Ocean View are flat, well-marked, and the Garden State Parkway exits are easy to navigate. Your host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and dump procedures, and you can message them any time during your trip through the RVezy app. Many hosts even offer delivery so you skip the driving entirely. Do a quick test run on Route 9 to get comfortable with the rig's height and width before heading to the campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so whether it's a flat tire on the Garden State Parkway, a dead battery at Ocean View Resort Campground, or a lockout near the Cape May ferry terminal, help is one call away. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app for questions about quirks specific to their rig (like how the awning retracts or where the fuse box is). RVezy's customer support team backs you up too. Snap photos of the RV's systems during your walkthrough, it makes troubleshooting over the phone much faster if something pops up.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Ocean View RV rental out of state or across the border?
Yes, road trips are encouraged. An RV road trip from Ocean View can easily roll into Delaware via the Cape May–Lewes Ferry (about 85 minutes across Delaware Bay), down to Assateague Island, Maryland (about 3 hours) to see the wild ponies, north to the Catskills in New York (about 4 hours), or west to Pennsylvania Dutch Country (about 2.5 hours). Travel within the U.S. is generally fine, and many hosts allow Canadian trips with prior approval, just message before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Confirm ferry RV pricing in advance, height and length affect the rate.
cmlf.com/What kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I expect?
Budgeting is straightforward. Class C motorhomes around Ocean View typically get 8 to 12 mpg, Class A rigs 6 to 10 mpg, campervans 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (figure a 25 to 30 percent hit on its usual mpg). New Jersey gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, and remember, New Jersey is a full-service state, so an attendant pumps it for you. A typical week-long Jersey Shore loop covering 300 to 400 miles costs roughly $120 to $200 in fuel for a mid-size motorhome. Pro tip: fill up at the Wawa on Route 9 in Ocean View before returning the rig, it's usually the best price in the area.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ocean View?
The earlier the better, but you've got options. For peak summer weekends (July 4th, late July, early August) at popular spots like Ocean View Resort Campground or Big Timber Lake, book in January or February. Belleplain State Forest sites open for reservations through ReserveNJStateParks.com up to 11 months in advance and the lakefront loops go quickly. For mid-week stays in June or September, even two to four weeks ahead usually works. Pro tip: many private campgrounds in Cape May County require a 3-night minimum on summer weekends and a full week for holiday weeks like July 4th, so plan your dates accordingly when arranging your RV camping in Ocean View.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/camping.htmlWhat are local driving conditions like in and around Ocean View?
Driving here is refreshingly easy, especially compared to other Jersey Shore towns. Ocean View sits right off Garden State Parkway Exit 17 with wide, flat roads and clearly marked RV-friendly routes via Route 9 and Route 50. Avoid driving onto the barrier islands during Friday afternoon (3 to 7 p.m.) and Sunday late-morning beach traffic, the Sea Isle Boulevard and Roosevelt Boulevard causeways get backed up. Watch for low-clearance areas under the Ocean City–Longport Bridge tolls and avoid Cape May's narrow Victorian-era side streets in larger Class A rigs. Pro tip: GPS apps like RV Life route you around low bridges, a smart download before your Ocean View RV trip.
state.nj.us/transportation/about/parkway/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ocean View?
Cape May County campgrounds are loaded with amenities. Ocean View Resort offers full hookups with 20/30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable TV at every site, plus pools, a lake, mini golf, and Wi-Fi. Big Timber Lake and Whippoorwill have similar full-hookup setups. For dump stations and potable water if you're staying off-grid or boondocking nearby, both Ocean View Resort and Belleplain State Forest offer dump stations (Belleplain's is free for registered campers). Propane refills are available at U-Haul on Route 9 in Marmora, just five minutes north. Pro tip: most Shore-area campgrounds run on well water that's safe but mineral-heavy, bring a sediment filter for your RV's fresh-water intake.
state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/belle.htmlWhat's typically included inside an Ocean View RV rental?

A typical campervan rental in Ocean View comes with a sleeping area and kitchenette with fridge, stove, sink, and basic cookware, while larger Class C and Class A motorhome rentals add a private bathroom with shower, dinette, queen or king bed, roof and dash air conditioning, generator, and often a TV with antenna or streaming setup. Many hosts include linens, pots and pans, beach chairs, and outdoor mats as part of the rental, while others offer them as add-ons. Seatbelts for travel passengers are clearly noted on each listing. Check the listing photos for an outdoor shower, a must-have for rinsing sandy feet after a day at Sea Isle Beach.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20View%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons for an RV rental in Ocean View, NJ include bike racks, kayaks and paddleboards, beach gear bundles, generators, portable grills, and pet packages, typically ranging from $10 to $50 per item per trip. Pickup is usually between 1 and 4 p.m. and drop-off by 11 a.m., though many hosts will flex if asked. Delivery to area campgrounds and to your Ocean View vacation rental driveway is offered by many hosts within a reasonable radius. Mileage policies vary, so always check the listing's nightly mile allowance before booking. Bundle delivery, setup, and a propane top-off to start your Shore week stress-free.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ocean%20View%2C%20New%20JerseyHow do payments and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and fully online through RVezy, no cash or paper checks needed. You'll pay in two parts: an initial deposit when you book to lock in your dates, and the remaining balance closer to your trip. A separate refundable security deposit is held by RVezy (not the host) just before pickup and released back to your card after a clean return. Take time-stamped walkaround photos and a quick video of the RV's interior at both pickup and drop-off, this is the easiest way to avoid any deposit disputes and is standard practice for savvy RV camping in Ocean View renters.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksAre there cheap RV rental options in Ocean View for budget travelers?
Yes, plenty of ways to stretch your dollars. For a cheap RV rental in Ocean View, NJ, filter by price on RVezy and look at travel trailers (often $90 to $140 per night) or older Class C motorhomes, which deliver the same Shore experience without the luxury price tag. Booking mid-week (Sunday through Thursday) in June or September can knock around 30 percent off summer rates, and many hosts discount stays of 7 nights or longer. Pair the rental with a state park campground like Belleplain instead of a resort campground for big savings. Travel trailers delivered and set up at Ocean View Resort give you a fully stocked beach base for less than most Cape May hotel rooms.
