Camping near Olivet, New Jersey
Olivet is an unincorporated community inside Pittsgrove Township in Salem County, on the western edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The area sits roughly an hour south of Philadelphia and about 45 minutes west of the Jersey Shore beaches, which makes it a practical base for RV travelers who want lakes and pine woods with day-trip access to cities and coast.
The closest public campground is Parvin State Park, on the south shore of Parvin Lake in Pittsgrove Township. It offers 56 tent and trailer sites, four group sites, and 18 furnished cabins along the north shore of Thundergust Lake, plus flush toilets, showers, and laundry within walking distance. The park is operated by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry.
Private options nearby broaden the choices for RVers. Adventure Bound Tall Pines in Elmer is a 113-acre family resort with hookup sites, cabin and RV rentals, and a splash park. Old Cedar Campground, Four Seasons Campgrounds, and Lake Kandle round out the local lineup with a mix of seasonal and short-stay sites.
Things to do around Olivet
Parvin State Park anchors the outdoor options. The park sits at the edge of the Pine Barrens with pine forest and hardwood swamp, plus Parvin Lake, Thundergust Lake, and Muddy Run for fishing and paddling. Anglers target bass, pickerel, catfish, yellow perch, and sunfish. Boating is limited to electric motors, and a lifeguard-staffed swim beach operates seasonally at Parvin Grove.
Families staying at Adventure Bound Tall Pines get on-site attractions: a swimming pool, splash park, inflatable water slides, a jump pad, mini-golf, and the Adventure Bound Express Train, plus a four-weekend Halloween celebration in fall.
Beyond the campgrounds, day trips are easy. The Jersey Shore beaches, Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville, the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton, and Philadelphia's historic sites are all within a short drive.

Camping season in the Olivet area is tied to the state park calendar. Parvin State Park's campsites, group sites, and cabins are open from April 1 through November 30. Outside those dates the sites are closed, though the park itself remains open for day use year-round.
Spring brings mild temperatures and the bloom of dogwood, mountain laurel, holly, magnolia, and wild azalea, which are part of more than 200 species of flowering plants documented inside Parvin. Summer is the busy stretch: warm, humid days pull crowds to the swim beach and lakes, and weekends fill quickly. Swimming is limited to Parvin Lake and only when lifeguards are on duty, so confirm the swim schedule if that matters for your trip.
Fall offers cooler nights, foliage, and lighter crowds, and it is generally the most comfortable window for RVing in the Pine Barrens. Winter is quiet, with occasional snow and cold snaps typical of South Jersey.

How to book campsites near Olivet
Parvin State Park sites are reserved through the New Jersey State Park Service reservation system at camping.nj.gov. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance, which matters for summer weekends and for the cabins on Thundergust Lake, which tend to fill first. Booking by phone is also available.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Adventure Bound Tall Pines takes reservations through its own site and through Campspot. Old Cedar Campground, Four Seasons Campgrounds, and Lake Kandle each run separate reservation systems, so contact them directly for site type, length, and hookup availability.
For RV renters, confirm rig length, hookup type, and pet policies at the time of booking. Parvin's Jaggers Point loop has no hookups at individual sites, and its sanitary dump station is currently closed.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Olivet is flat and sandy, typical of the Pine Barrens edge. The paved campground road inside Parvin State Park is narrow, so larger RVs should take corners slowly. Parvin sites include a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern hook, with restrooms and showers within walking distance.
Hookups vary by campground. State park sites at Parvin are non-hookup, and the sanitary dump station at Jaggers Point is closed until further notice, so plan alternate dump stops. Private parks like Adventure Bound Tall Pines offer premium full hookup, water/electric/sewer, water/electric, and tent sites, along with a dump station.
Expect mosquitoes and ticks in summer, standard for wooded South Jersey. New Jersey law prohibits bringing out-of-state firewood, and statewide fire restrictions occasionally take effect during dry stretches, so check current rules before packing wood.

New Jersey gas prices generally run a bit below the national average, hovering around $3.00-$3.40 per gallon in recent months. A round trip from Olivet to Cape May and back (about 110 miles) costs roughly $25-$40 in fuel for a Class C.
