Campgrounds and RV parks near Palermo, NJ

Palermo is an unincorporated community in Upper Township, Cape May County, sitting on the mainland side of the Jersey Shore between Great Egg Harbor Bay and the barrier islands. It lies roughly three miles inland from Ocean City and within a short drive of Sea Isle City, Strathmere, and Marmora, which makes it a practical basecamp for RV renters who want beach access without paying barrier-island parking rates. The area sits inside one of the densest concentrations of private campgrounds in New Jersey, with Cape May County home to dozens of inspected campgrounds along the mainland corridor. Wooded, family-oriented resorts dominate the mix, with pools, playgrounds, and full-hookup sites the norm rather than the exception. Within a short drive of Palermo, RV renters typically choose between Whippoorwill Campground and Frontier Campground close to Marmora, Lake and Shore RV Resort and Echo Farms RV Resort further south, and Sea Grove Camping Resort toward the Ocean View area. Belleplain State Forest, run by the New Jersey State Park Service, sits inland as the closest public-lands option.

Private parks around Palermo are booked directly with the campground or through their operator. Whippoorwill Campground, part of the Thousand Trails network, takes reservations on its own website and by phone, and does not require a membership for standard bookings. Frontier Campground, Lake and Shore RV Resort, Echo Farms RV Resort, and Sea Grove Camping Resort each run their own reservation systems on their operator websites. For state land, Belleplain State Forest reservations are handled online through camping.nj.gov. The CCC section is the only one with water and electric hookups at individual sites, so it books out first, sometimes weeks or months in advance for summer and holiday weekends. For July, August, and Labor Day weekend, book as early as the winter before. Shoulder-season stays can often be reserved a few weeks out.
