Palisades Park camping overview
Palisades Park sits in Bergen County, minutes from the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River waterfront. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring New York City to the east and the forested highlands of northern New Jersey and the Lower Hudson Valley to the west and north. There are no campgrounds inside Palisades Park itself, but a cluster of urban and wilderness options lies within roughly an hour's drive.
The closest full-hookup option is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, a paved urban park across the Hudson from lower Manhattan. For a more traditional outdoor experience, Beaver Pond Campground sits in Harriman State Park in Rockland County, reached from New York City via the Palisades Parkway north to Exit 15. Camp Wyanokie and Wawayanda State Park lie farther west in the New Jersey Highlands.
Floyd Bennett Field, part of Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn, has historically offered seasonal tent and RV camping about an hour southeast, though the campground has been closed in recent seasons and status should be confirmed with the National Park Service before planning a trip.
Things to do near Palisades Park
From Palisades Park, day trips split naturally between city and wilderness. Manhattan sights, the American Dream complex in East Rutherford, and the Palisades Interstate Park cliffs above the Hudson are all within a short drive. Guests staying at Liberty Harbor RV Park can reach lower Manhattan by PATH train or ferry.
For hiking and lake time, Harriman State Park spans roughly 46,000 acres of trails, ponds, and forest. Beaver Pond Campground provides walking access to the Lake Welch swimming beach and immediate access to Harriman's hiking trails, including sections of the Appalachian Trail. Wawayanda State Park has about sixty miles of trails, including a twenty-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, with strong views from atop Wawayanda Mountain. Camp Wyanokie provides rustic access to Norvin Green State Forest for hikers and climbers.

Camping in the region is heavily seasonal. State park campgrounds in New York and New Jersey generally run from spring through mid-fall, while private urban parks like Liberty Harbor operate closer to year-round. Beaver Pond opens in mid-April for walk-in camping only through early May, then runs a regular reservation season into mid-October. There are no electrical hookups for trailers at Beaver Pond, alcohol is not permitted, and pets are not allowed. Wawayanda State Park's campsites are open April 1 to October 31.
Summer is peak season and sites fill quickly, particularly on holiday weekends. Weekends can bring large groups, with generators, radios, and other noise common. Spring and early fall bring cooler weather, fewer bugs, and easier reservations.
Winter closes most state-park campgrounds in the area, though Wawayanda supports cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling during the day. Black bears inhabit Harriman and Bear Mountain, so food should be stored securely.

Kimmy T. - Oct 2026
Marc, the owner, and the RV went way beyond my expectations! Marc is super knowledgeable and helpful. The RV had every amenity you could want, was so easy to drive, and very well maintained. Prior to pick up date Marc sent me documentary and video informational instructions that were extremely useful. Marc was always available for any questions whether before or during our trip. We rented the RV for 13 days and traveled pretty far. I have no doubt that because the RV was so comfortable inconvenience. Our trip was effortless. I would definitely rent with Marc again and can’t wait for our next trip!

Booking and how to reserve
Reservation systems vary by park. For New York State Park campgrounds, same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica call center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. This is the system used for Beaver Pond in Harriman State Park.
New Jersey state park online reservations can be made at camping.nj.gov. Wawayanda uses this system, and its group campsites have a composting restroom and require a minimum of seven persons, so it suits larger parties rather than a single RV. Liberty Harbor RV Park books directly through its own website and tends to fill on summer weekends. Camp Wyanokie is operated by a nonprofit and requires advance arrangement through the operator. Booking two to three months ahead is advisable for any summer weekend.
What to expect at Palisades Park campgrounds
Expect a mix of urban and backcountry conditions within a short radius. Liberty Harbor is a paved, full-hookup lot with skyline views, close to restaurants, transit, and traffic noise. It suits travelers who want a city-first trip rather than a wilderness stay.
The state park campgrounds are the opposite. Beaver Pond offers sites for up to two tents and six persons, with select sites accommodating a trailer or RV up to 30 feet long, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a flip-top grill plus shared full-service bathrooms. Sites are wooded, cell service is spotty in Harriman and the NJ Highlands, and larger Class A rigs may struggle with tight interior roads.
Camp Wyanokie and Wawayanda are the most primitive. At Wawayanda, water is not available at campsites and must be carried from the main office, and there are no shower facilities. Plan to arrive with full tanks and provisions.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Palisades Park, NJ?
An RV rental in Palisades Park is a budget-friendly alternative to NYC-metro hotels, with options for every traveler. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes run $175 to $300 per night, and larger Class A rigs can climb past $400 per night. Because Palisades Park sits just across the George Washington Bridge from Manhattan, weekend pricing peaks May through October when leaf-peepers and festival-goers fill the Hudson Valley. To find a cheap RV rental in Palisades Park, book midweek, travel in April or November, and use the price filter on RVezy to sort lowest-to-highest. Many Bergen County hosts include generous mileage allowances, which adds real value for day trips into the city or the Catskills.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palisades%20Park%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Palisades Park, NJ?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Palisades Park. New Jersey does not require a special license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for personal recreational vehicles under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and most Class A rigs you'll see on RVezy. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally required to be at least 25 years old, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from another country? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. That's it, you're cleared to hit the Palisades Interstate Parkway with confidence.

You select your protection level, so you're in control of the comfort cushion that fits your trip. Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a full money-back grace period right after you book. That means you can lock in a great Palisades Park RV rental today and still have flexibility if your schedule shifts. Cancellation outcomes depend on factors like how far out from your trip you cancel and the policy tier on your booking. You'll see the full details during checkout and in your booking confirmation. Book early to lock in the best Bergen County rigs, you can always adjust later within policy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Palisades Park?
Absolutely, your dog is welcome on plenty of trips. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to browse pet-friendly RV rental options in Palisades Park, and you'll find motorhomes and travel trailers ready for four-legged passengers. Once you're on the road, head to dog-loving spots like Overpeck County Park in nearby Leonia, which has an off-leash dog run and miles of paved trails along the creek, or Palisades Interstate Park's shoreline trails along the Hudson where leashed pups love the river breeze. Many hosts charge a small pet fee, typically $25 to $75 per stay, listed clearly on the listing page. Bring a portable water bowl, summer humidity along the Hudson can be intense.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palisades%20Park%2C%20New%20JerseyCan the RV be delivered to me in Palisades Park?
Yes, RV delivery in Palisades Park is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) or arriving by train from Manhattan. Many local hosts will drop the rig at your campground, a friend's driveway in Bergen County, or directly at popular destinations like Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, and check the listing for per-mile delivery fees. Your host also handles the orientation walkthrough so you'll never feel left figuring things out alone. For first-time renters nervous about navigating the George Washington Bridge in a 30-foot Class C, delivery is a game-changer.

You're spoiled for choice within an hour or two. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (about 15 miles south) is open year-round with full hookups and skyline views of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Harriman State Park's Beaver Pond Campground (about 40 miles north in New York) is another favorite for RV camping near Palisades Park. Reserve Worthington and Harriman sites the moment they open, summer weekends sell out fast.
recreation.gov/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Palisades Park?
Late April through October is prime time, with each season delivering its own magic. Spring (April to early June) brings 55 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit and blooming dogwoods along the Palisades cliffs. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid, often 75 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, great for beach trips to the Jersey Shore. The undisputed champion is fall foliage season from late September through mid-October, when the Hudson Valley explodes into reds and golds, ideal weather for RV camping in Palisades Park. Winters get cold (20s to 40s Fahrenheit) with occasional snow, but cozy heated-rig trips into the Catskills are absolutely possible. Book Columbus Day weekend at least four months out, it's the most popular foliage window in the region.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be able to handle it in Palisades Park?
You absolutely can, and most first-time renters say the experience was easier than expected. Every host on RVezy provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and waste systems before you ever turn the key. If it's your first time renting an RV near a dense metro like NYC, start with a Class B campervan or small Class C (22 to 25 feet) for easy handling on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, which has commercial vehicle restrictions that keep traffic calmer. Choose delivery to skip city driving entirely. Message your host with questions before booking, they want you to succeed and most reply within hours.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue in Palisades Park?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking in Palisades Park includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Route 4, a dead battery at a campground near High Point State Park, or a tow off the New Jersey Turnpike is one phone call away from being handled. Roadside help covers towing, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockouts, and tire service. Your host is also a great first call for quick questions about the rig's quirks. Snap a photo of your roadside assistance number and pin it to your phone's home screen before you pull out of Palisades Park, ten seconds of prep, hours of peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive the RV across state lines or into Canada from Palisades Park?
Yes, interstate travel is fully supported and one of the best parts of an RV road trip from Palisades Park. You're 30 minutes from New York City, about 90 minutes from Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains, two hours from Connecticut beaches, and four hours from Vermont's Green Mountains. Cross-border travel into Canada (Niagara Falls is about 400 miles northwest) is allowed on many listings, just message the host before booking to confirm and to make sure insurance coverage extends across the border. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance limitations. Popular multi-state loops from Palisades Park include the Hudson Valley to Berkshires circuit and the Jersey Shore down to Assateague Island in Maryland.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Palisades Park RV trip?
Fuel is your biggest variable cost, so let's make it predictable. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG. New Jersey gas prices typically sit slightly below the regional average, and a major perk: New Jersey requires attendants to pump your gas for you, no need to wrestle a diesel nozzle in the rain. Fill up before crossing into New York, where prices are often higher. For a 500-mile weekend in a Class C, budget roughly $200 to $275 in fuel. Use the GasBuddy app to find cheaper diesel along Route 17 north toward the Catskills.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Palisades Park?
For peak weekends, book your campground the moment reservations open, typically four to seven months out. New Jersey State Parks (including Worthington and High Point) accept reservations through the state's reservation system, and Hudson Valley New York state parks book through ReserveAmerica.com. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City often fills six months ahead for summer weekends. Federal campgrounds at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area use Recreation.gov on a rolling six-month window. If a Saturday is full, check Sunday-to-Tuesday arrivals, you'll often score the exact site you wanted and pay less. Midweek bookings inside Bergen County's nearest parks rarely sell out, even in July.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Palisades Park?
Driving from Palisades Park is manageable with a few smart moves. The Palisades Interstate Parkway, your gateway north to Bear Mountain and Harriman, prohibits commercial vehicles and trucks, which keeps it scenic and calm, but it restricts vehicles over certain weight and height limits, so larger Class A motorhomes should use the New York State Thruway (I-87) instead. The George Washington Bridge upper level has overhead clearance limits, so stick to the lower level for tall rigs. Avoid the Lincoln and Holland Tunnels entirely, RVs with propane and oversized vehicles are prohibited. Leave Palisades Park before 6:30 a.m. or after 7 p.m. on Fridays to dodge Hudson crossing traffic that can otherwise add 90 minutes.
panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/en/george-washington-bridge.htmlWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Palisades Park?
Campground quality near Palisades Park is genuinely excellent. Private parks like Liberty Harbor RV Park and Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 45 minutes away) offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and on-site dump stations. State park campgrounds at Worthington and Harriman typically include electric and water with central dump stations and potable fill stations, but no individual sewer hookups. Federal sites at Delaware Water Gap lean rustic with vault toilets and shared water spigots. Most campgrounds within an hour of Palisades Park have a camp store for ice, propane refills, and firewood (out-of-state firewood is restricted in NJ, buy local to protect against invasive pests). Confirm Wi-Fi reliability before you depend on it for remote work.
nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/What equipment and amenities are included inside the RV rental?
Your RV comes ready to roll. Expect a full kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, dishes), bathroom (toilet, shower, sink) in Class B and larger rigs, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on size, heating, air conditioning, and seatbelts at every passenger seat. Most Class C and Class A motorhomes on RVezy in Palisades Park include a generator, TV/DVD, and increasingly, solar and Wi-Fi boosters, helpful when you're parked along the Hudson and want to stream the Yankees game. Travel trailers typically include bedding and kitchen kits, motorhomes vary by host. Always check the listing's amenities list and ask about linens. Filter by Sleeps count to make sure your family RV trip Palisades Park crew fits comfortably with room to spare.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palisades%20Park%2C%20New%20JerseyWhat add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and dropoff work in Palisades Park?
You can tailor your motorhome rental in Palisades Park with popular add-ons like bedding and towel kits ($35 to $75), camping chairs and outdoor mats ($15 to $30), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), generators (often included or charged per hour of use), bike racks, kayaks, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Bergen County or a nearby meeting spot, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Dropoff is usually back to the same location. Mileage policies, late fees, and cleaning fees are listed transparently on each listing page before you book. Ask your host about a propane top-off add-on, you'll never run out mid-pancake on a cold Catskills morning.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Palisades%20Park%2C%20New%20JerseyHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in Palisades Park?
Payment is handled securely through RVezy, no cash, no awkward peer-to-peer transfers with strangers. When you book, you'll pay the rental cost plus the protection plan fee. The security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and authorized on your credit card a few days before pickup, then released after dropoff once the host confirms no damage. Deposits for Palisades Park rentals usually range from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class and value. To avoid hiccups, photograph the RV inside and out at pickup, return it at the agreed mileage and fuel level, and dump the tanks (or pay the host's dump fee, typically $40 to $75). Keep your pickup walkthrough video on your phone until your deposit is fully released.
